[Feedback request] CentOS website theme readability

Hi, The website theme is being updated to improve content responsiveness and readability, on both large and small screen devices. Your feedback would be very helpful to detect usability issues and consolidate a design that works well for you. forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. Reminder about el8 SIG packages moving next week to new location/URL

Per discussion on this list some time ago (https://lists.centos.org/hyperkitty/list/devel@lists.centos.org/thread/BYSK…) , and also aligned with CentOS Stream 8 EOL (including for SIGs content), we'll proceed next Monday with the announced change : The SIG that opted in to build against/for RHEL8 (and not CentOS Stream 8) had their packages pushed the same way centos linux 7 was. Per thread linked above, there was a proposal from the kmods SIG (and no other SIG minded against) to start pushing to the mirror.stream.centos.org network (instead of "legacy" mirror.centos.org, which will be empty soon), and so starting to be using mirrormanager (as mirrorlists.centos.org service itself will disappear end of June, due centos linux 7 going EOL) Since March 2024, there was a script that was just keeping http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8/<SIG>/ content in sync with the new destination https://mirror.stream.centos.org/SIGs/8/<SIG>/ . That ensured that SIGs would have enough time to communicate the new location and also provide eventually newer .repo files # What will happen next week ? Content from mirror.centos.org will be emptied (for both 8-stream and 8) and SIG content for 8 (rhel8) will be pushed to new location directly (no intermediate step) # What about your .repo files ? CentOS / SIG Meeting Minutes

Currently I am hosting the IRC meeting minutes on my infra which is made accessible via https://centos.org/minutes via a proxy configuration. This data is scheduled to be removed at the CentOS 7 sunset date. I will have an up-to-date tarball generated at 0015 daily available at https://centos-minutes.gerdesas.com/centos-minutes.tar.gz that may be consumed or archived. I'll maintain the last generation of that tarball at that URL for a week or so past sunset as a convenience. Zuul/Nodepool upgrade on Thursday 16 of May (9:00 UTC)

Dear all, We are planning to upgrade Zuul and Nodepool from major version 8 to major version 10 on centos.softwarefactory-project.io [1]. We will start the upgrade on May 16th at 9:00 UTC, and expect a service downtime of about 3 hours. Hello, The Production Chain Infra Team is planning to do the following service maintainance: - Upgrade the control plane operating systems from CentOS 7 to RHEL 9 on the 2024-06-18. During this maintainance, the following services are going to be unavailable for a few hours: - Zuul CI not running jobs for gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms. Sunsetting of the softwarecollections.org website

Hello all! In a few days (namely 2024-05-24), the SSL certificate on https://www.softwarecollections.org will expire, and I do not plan to renew it. The reason is simple: both RHEL and CentOS 7 are at least approaching their End-of-Life, and with them, most of the Software Collections RPMs as well. The website itself will stay up for at least few months, in case anyone really needs it for something. Given that the contents are mostly out of date (which is my fault, it was on the backlog so far it fell off), the only relevant part that I can think of is the SCL packaging guide [1]. If you will have a need of it in the future, let me point you to it's sources [2], which should be kept up to date. migrating centos-bootc infra into centos

Hey, we announced image mode for RHEL: https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/introducing-image-mode-red-hat-enterprise-li… It's tech preview, but I think it'd make sense to move these images into centos proper still. Right now we have upstream code in https://github.com/centos/centos-bootc and we created a temporary quay.io namespace in quay.io/centos-bootc. I'd like to propose a migration like this: - github.com/centos/centos-bootc -> https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/containers/bootc (Somewhat paralleling https://gitlab.com/fedora/bootc/base-images ) This would also implicitly be creating a new containers/ namespace) - quay.io/centos-bootc/centos-bootc:stream9 -> quay.io/centos/centos-bootc:stream9 - quay.io/centos-bootc/bootc-image-builder:latest -> quay.io/centos/bootc-image-builder:latest The :latest tag is currently a bit out of place for bib, and should probably switch to :stream9 too? That said, the time may also be right at least for these things to convert from a ":stream9" tags in favor of a more...streamlined tag like just plain ":9"? Only tangentially related, but still related is $ skopeo inspect -n docker://quay.io/centos/centos:latest|jq -r .Created 2020-12-08T00:22:53.076477777Z $ Which is obviously pretty broken...we should probably just drop this `:latest` tag as it's just a trap at this point?

CentOS Stream 8 ending in less than two weeks (May 31, 2024)

CentOS Stream 8 was the first of the CentOS Stream releases. As such, it is the first to end. CentOS Stream 8 End Of Life is Friday, May 31, 2024. We will be following the established CentOS practice of moving all the released content to vault.centos.org. When everything has been moved over, all dnf/yum commands that point to the normal CentOS Stream 8 repositories will break. CentOS Stream 8 users that are not ready to move off, will have to manually update their configurations to point to vault.centos.org. But there will be no more updates of any kind. No security updates. No feature updates.
