Board Nominations Requested

** Please read this entire email before responding with nominations. ** We have a process, and the process is important. Recently, Brian Exelbierd notified the CentOS board that he will be moving on from his role as Red Hat Liaison. The Red Hat Liaison role is special: it is the only board seat appointed by and speaking for Red Hat. All other board members are at-large and speak for themselves. Brian's role will be backfilled, but until it is, Josh Boyer will step in as the interim Red Hat Liaison. This means that Josh is stepping down from his position as an at-large board member. CentOS Stream build infra outage (potential impact on SIGs)

Due to internal scheduled maintenance on the CentOS Stream build infra, it will not be available/reachable this Friday August 30th (maintenance starting around 12:00am UTC) While it will not have any impact on CentOS Stream users (not using any service hosted in that infra), it can potentially impact some SIGs, depending on their koji/cbs tag(s) configuration. Normally SIGs are just using released repositories (aka what's available through mirror.stream.centos.org) but some SIGs requested to inherit CentOS Stream (9 and 10) buildroots repositories (to access some unreleased -devel pkgs or else) If you're relying on these buildroots, they'll be unavailable for some hours so you should plan accordingly and eventually just queue your pkgs build for after the maintenance window, or just retry failing builds due to some pkgs from the corresponding buildroots repositories not being reachable. New Red Hat Liaison to the CentOS Project Board

Hi All, Red Hat is making a change in the Board liaison. During the Board face-to-face at Flock to Fedora, I notified the Board that I would be stepping down effective with the August meeting. I am changing roles and companies and Red Hat has begun to search for my replacement. In the interim, Josh Boyer will be serving as Red Hat Liaison to the CentOS Project Board. I have enjoyed serving the community and project in this capacity on behalf of Red Hat. I look forward to continuing to work with everyone in various open source spaces in an individual capacity. Change in Red Hat Liaison role

Hi All, Red Hat is making a change in the Board liaison role as Brian Exelbierd will be moving on to a new adventure outside of Red Hat. Effective today, I am filling the liaison role on a temporary basis until Red Hat can find a more permanent person to backfill the role. As a result, I am abdicating my existing member at large Board seat and the project will begin the election process for a new Board member. It has been an honor to be a CentOS Board member and I look forward to continuing to participate in the liaison role. josh

Retiring Public CI SIG

Hi all, The CentOS Board periodically reviews SIGs to ensure they're active. The Public CI SIG is no longer active, and so we intend to retire this SIG unless somebody from the community wants to revive it. Thanks, Shaun

forums + portal for {lang}.centos.org sites

Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. reminder : CentOS Linux 7 EOL / infra services disappearing in two weeks

Hi, As discussed multiple times on various lists, CentOS Linux 7 will go EOL in two weeks (end of June) and so that means that various services running on CentOS 7 will disappear too . Apart from internal build infra for centos 7 itself (non public) that will be decommissioned, here are some services that will disappear: # mirrorlist.centos.org As the whole backend/frontend infra is running on centos 7 , and that everything Stream related (and now SIGs) was migrated to use mirrormanager (hosted by Fedora infra team), there was no reason to migrate/maintain it as all content will be EOL. # forums.centos.org Per discussion with the forums moderators, it will be powered off completely (not migrated) # torrent.centos.org In the past we used to provide .torrent for various centos linux releases, but it stopped with CentOS Stream.
