anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? TOMOYO in Red Hat kernels

make dist-all-rpms fails with test_progs-no_alu32-extras Error

Hi * I recently tried to compile a custom centos-stream-9 automotive SIG kernel and failed. Now I see the very same problem is present in the mainline centos-stream-9 kernel. When I clone the sources from https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/src/kernel/centos-stream-9 on a freshly installed centos-stream-9 host, the make dist-all-rpms target fails with make[3]: rsync: Argument list too long make[3]: *** [Makefile:768: test_progs-no_alu32-extras] Error 127 This is certainly not a problem with rsync and the ulimits are definitely sufficient to deal with this ~2000 char argument list. So what is going on here? This rsync call appears to come from the tools/testing/selftests/bpf/Makefile. The problem persists if I BUILDOPTS="-selftests" and I understand bpf to be a SKIP_TARGET by default, anyway. Does anyone have a hint? What is missing or what am I missing? Extras-common repository status for s390x architecture

Hi, Dusty created a ticket on infra tracker about empty s390x repo for extras-common : https://pagure.io/centos-infra/issue/1635 For visibility/awareness I'd like to discuss that here and then work on ticket eventually, as it would involve other SIGs. For a long time, we had no s390x arch support in CBS but it was finally available end of 2024 (https://lists.centos.org/hyperkitty/list/devel@lists.centos.org/thread/YW24…) So, now the interesting question : what to do about s390x ? It's easy to just add it to the extras-common build tag (https://cbs.centos.org/koji/taginfo?tagID=2914) and it would start pushing centos-release* noarch pkgs out , and so available for s390x users (are there a lot of these ? ) But while it would "solve" the issue mentioned by Dusty above, it would be giving impression that there are SIG content s(like ceph/gluster/else, so content built by SIGs) available for s390x, while only NFV/Infra (for our own needs)/OKD started to build for s390x. As a reminder, that extras-common repository is only used for SIGs to distribute their -release packages (containing .repo files and gpg pub key) so that it can be directly installed from a centos stream release (that's the only repo that is available by default, coming from CBS - community and so outside of stream repositories like BaseOS/AppStream/CRB/etc) I'd like to have your opinion/thoughs/feedback about this . -- Fabian Arrotin The CentOS Project | https://www.centos.org gpg key: 17F3B7A1 | @arrfab[@fosstodon.org]

Proposal to default to GitLab for SIG packaging

In the last Board meeting we discussed the future of git.centos.org, and whether it would make sense to encourage SIGs to move over to GitLab, as we already have a group at gitlab.com/centos and that's where CentOS Stream development is happening (under gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream) GitLab also provides features (notably, CI integration via Pipelines and an improved code review flow) that some SIGs would like to use and would benefit from. To this end, I have filed https://git.centos.org/centos/board/issue/129 to summarize the discussion and decide the next steps. We'd welcome any comments and feedback on this. To be clear, there are no plans to sunset git.centos.org at this time. Cheers Davide

CentOS Alt Images April 2025 Update

The CentOS Alternative Images SIG has released their April 2025 update of images. The download webpage links have been updated. [0] - Kinfocenter is now in the CentOS Stream 10 KDE Live images[1] - WSL images now have the minimal libraries needed to do graphics if GNOME graphical apps are installed. [2] - WSL images are now built the new way, almost. OpenQA instance for CentOS - current state and next steps

Hi, folks, we have been discussing this feature for a while, but not officially. So let me bring this up for a wider audience: = Overview OpenQA is a test orchestration framework used by OpenSUSE and Fedora and it is more or less tailored to testing distribution images. There is a number of tests written by Fedora QA team which are being triggered on every nightly compose, and we would like to explore the possibility to run these tests in the CentOS project on CentOS images. Additionally there has been an open request from CentOS Alt Images and Hyperscale SIGs to provide the way to test their own images as well. We would like to address this need under the umbrella of the CentOS Integration SIG. = Plan 1) setup a dedicated OpenQA instance as close as possible to how Fedora OpenQA instance is deployed; 2) ensure that it can run at least one test from Fedora QA test suite on a standard CentOS Stream compose; 3) Offer interested parties (Hyperscale, Alt Images, Installer team at Red Hat..) to extend the functionality; 4) .. NOT in the plan: - To replace existing compose tests CentOS Stream. = What has been done Jan Scotka created a local proof-of-concept and is now ready to do the deployment. AltImages SIG: Announcing new images

The CentOS Alternative Images SIG[1] has updated their CentOS Stream 9 Live images this quarter. We also added 4 new Live desktop images.[2] We now have * CINNAMON * GNOME * KDE * MATE * XFCE * MAX MAX has all the desktops listed above, plus a few others like IceWM and Lumina. All of these live images can be installed on your system.
