As per our governance docs: https://www.centos.org/about/governance/board/ Every six months, half of our directors are asked if they wish to continue in their seats or step down. This time, we will have one seat to fill. Celeste Lyn Paul has indicated to the board her intent to step down. We all appreciate the work she's done on the board. We are asking you, the CentOS community, for nominations for who should fill Celeste's seat. Note that the vote on who will fill this seat is held by the board itself, but nominations are open to the entire community. CentOS Connect: please provide feedback for FreeIPA use for CentOS infrastructure

Hi, my talk proposal for CentOS Connect[1] about getting feedback of FreeIPA usage in CentOS and downstream distributions infrastructure got accepted but the actual length of the talk was cut in half. The talk was supposed to be a discussion but with a shorter slot it is probably best if I'd collect this feedback in advance and present it together with other topics I am going to cover during the talk. So this is a request to every CentOS-related project that uses FreeIPA in their infrastructure: please provide your feedback! What features do you use, what would like to see improved, how we can help you from identity management projects' point of view. You can simply answer here or directly to me. Alternative Images SIG meeting minutes (2024-01-11)

TOPIC: Image build systems: kiwi (@tdawson:fedora.im, 19:06:05) We are able to make images.[1] They boot and install, but you cannot boot into the newly installed image. https://cbs.centos.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3751898 Investigation has shown that dracut is getting errors when trying to create the initramfs. dracut: dracut module 'livenet' depends on 'dmsquash-live', which can't be installed dracut: dracut module 'dmsquash-live' cannot be found or installed. And yes, dmsquash-live is installed. If you want to get around this. After the install is done, but before you click on the button that closes anaconda, open a terminal on the live cd. Become root and then chroot /mnt/sysroot dracut --regenerate-all --no-hostonly --force If you are a dracut expert, any help would be appreciated. Announcing rpmautospec support on cbs.centos.org

A long time ago, some SIGs requested rpmautospec to be available on https://cbs.centos.org koji instance. Due to the fact that previous versions of rpmautospec were running on the kojid host, and not *inside* buildroots, and that it needed different version of pygit2/libgit2 conflicting with operating system, it wasn't possible to enable that feature ... ... But these days are gone now ! Thanks to the work done by rpmautospec maintainer (Nils Philippsen), rpmautospec is now divided into multiple packages, and mock 5.4 (released upstream last week) has the built-in logic (in mock-rpmautospec) to call rpmautospec in the populated buildroot. That means that from today, rpmautospec is implemented in cbs.centos.org , with the following needed changes : - at the kojid host level : bump to mock 5.4 and mock-rpmautospec plugin installed and enabled - at the kojihub level, the inherited buildsys9s-release tag has all the needed packages (https://cbs.centos.org/koji/builds?tagID=2363) required at runtime to process the %autorelease and %autochangelog entries # How to use it ? Basically SIGs asking initially to have it already know how to use it but using https://fedora-infra.github.io/rpmautospec-docs/ docs to understand %autorelease and %autochangelog is the only required thing. CBS doesn't have anything to understand as it's rpmautospec's job to process git logs to automatically convert these macros. That also means that it's really opt-in : if there is no %autorelease/%autochangelog, nothing will be processed, so the build will happen as it was in the past (no change) # When can we use it ? Whenever you want, as it was implemented today, and by the time you'll have read this email, cbs *should* have reprocessed the various build tags to see the inherited packages from buildsys9-release tag (packages needed in buildroot dynamically installed when %autochangelog and %autorelease are detected) # Limitation As said in the past, rpmautospec itself needed at least python3 (and deps), meaning that it wasn't available for el8. So trying to use rpmautospec for CentOS Stream 8 on cbs.centos.org wouldn't work (but Stream 8 itself will go EOL in ~3months anyway). Feedback on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 plans

Dear Sir/Madam, You’re currently exploring raising the instruction set base line, which will exclude some systems and also people (who are unable to afford to upgrade to reach the new baseline). I however want to draw your attention to the plans, to disable or remove megaraid based hardware from Dell. Doing so will cause issues and leave behind people in the home lab community behind. Also there’s also videos circulating from as recently as during 2022 recommending the Dell PowerEdge R620 rack servers. The people in the home lab community are in essence a source of recommendations for people considering whether or not to acquire Red Hat’s services. So having them on side is a very good thing!
