Changes to CentOS CI: reminder of Phase 3 and update on OpenShift new instance

Hello everyone, This is a friendly reminder of CentOS CI changes' current status and upcoming action items (check [0]) in addition to a quick update on our new OpenShift instance. According to our previous communications [0], we are approaching the last phase of the changes that have been implemented to CentOS CI. We are currently closing phase 2, which began in October. In December, we will move to *phase 3*: *Phase 3 - Decommission* - Legacy/compatibility API deprecated and requests (even for EC2 instances) will no longer be accepted - All tenants that opted in will be using only EC2 for aarch64/x86_64 and on-premise cloud for ppc64le For a full description of the project phases, you can check [0]. Currently, our Infra & Releng team is working to deploy our new OpenShift instance (AWS) in production after some improvements that have been done in staging. When OpenShift gets fully set up, the team will work to migrate the Pagure project. This will then be documented and passed on to you (users) as a guide in order to *facilitate the workload migration that is expected to be done on your side*. We are expecting this to be completed by the end of the year. We will be sharing further information on this at the beginning of Q1CY2023. FOSDEM Distributions Devroom - Call for Participation

# FOSDEM 2023 Distributions Devroom - Call for Participation We're excited to announce that the Distributions Devroom is returning to FOSDEM 2023, in-person in Brussels for the full day on Sunday, February 5. The call for proposals is now open. ## About the Distributions Devroom The Distributions Devroom is run by and for the people who build, package, and contribute to distributions of Linux and other software. Distributions remain a critical part of modern IT infrastructure, whether running on bare metal or in containers, from supercomputers to edge deployments. The Distributions Devroom provides a forum to share best practices on the entire distribution lifecycle, from building and integration to long-term support and security fixes. ## Call for Proposals We welcome submissions targeted at contributors interested in issues unique to distributions, especially in the following topics: * Growing, participating, and working with communities around distributions * Automating building and testing to minimize human involvement * Cross-distribution collaboration on common issues * Distribution construction, installation, deployment, packaging, and content management * Balancing new code and active upstreams versus security updates and minimization of breaking changes * Delivering architecture-independent software * Working with vendors and including them in the community * The future of distributions and emerging trends * Non-engineering topics inside of distribution communities (e.g. documentation, marketing, internationalization, design, community operations, etc.) * Creating a secure supply chain by evaluating upstream components and providing a secure source for downstreams ## Important Dates * Submission Deadline: Dec 20th 2022 * Acceptance notifications: Dec 31th 2022 * Final schedule announcement: Jan 14th 2022 ## Process 1. Alternative Images SIG - meeting time survey

I have created a poll to help us figure out the best day and time to have our meetings. I did the times a bit to the extreme, from very very early for those on the U.S. west coast, to very very late for those in Europe. I sorta hope neither of those extremes are picked, but I figured it would be best to have everything. I have setup the poll for Monday through Friday. RDO Zed Released

The RDO community is pleased to announce the general availability of the RDO build for OpenStack Zed for RPM-based distributions, CentOS Stream and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. RDO is suitable for building private, public, and hybrid clouds. Zed is the 26th release from the OpenStack project, which is the work of more than 1,000 contributors from around the world. As with the Upstream release, this release of RDO is dedicated to Ilya Etingof who was an upstream and RDO contributor. The release is already available for CentOS Stream 9 on the CentOS mirror network in: http://mirror.stream.centos.org/SIGs/9-stream/cloud/x86_64/openstack-zed/ The RDO community project curates, packages, builds, tests and maintains a complete OpenStack component set for RHEL and CentOS Stream and is a member of the CentOS Cloud Infrastructure SIG. The Cloud Infrastructure SIG focuses on delivering a great user experience for CentOS users looking to build and maintain their own on-premise, public or hybrid clouds. All work on RDO and on the downstream release, Red Hat OpenStack Platform, is 100% open source, with all code changes going upstream first. Connect at FOSDEM

Going to FOSDEM? Here are three things to know: 1) We will have a CentOS Connect on February 3, the Friday before FOSDEM. I'm waiting on a required legal review of the contract before the full announcement. But I know people are already making travel plans, so please plan on the extra day. 2) There will be a Distributions Devroom at FOSDEM on Sunday. I'm one of the organizers. The CFP will land soon. 3) I'm considering a web+docs hackfest in Brussels, probably just a single day, unless people really want more. For me, it would have to happen the Monday after FOSDEM. We have a lot of web and docs revamp stuff in the air. We won't do it all, but we can make a concrete plan and take home action items. Let me know if you're interested. Alternative Images SIG kickoff

The CentOS Alternative Images SIG is finally official.[1] Time to get things rolling. I have setup an IRC channel #centos-alt-images and a pagure group[2], along with a sig repo[3] to track issues and documentation. I have requested a weekly meeting[4], Tuesdays at 1600 UTC on #centos-meeting. It is currently weekly, but as things get setup we'll slow that down to bi-weekly and possibly monthly. We can also work on a better time, but for now, that's what we have. Everybody is welcome to join and contribute to the SIG.
