PHP 5.2.10 success

I saw a request for feedback, so here it is: I have installed PHP 5.2.10 from the testing repo on 2 servers. One is a backup webserver that runs 4 Drupal sites. No issues with any of them so far, and I plan on upgrading the production server this coming weekend. The other is our mail server. It was the catalyst to try the upgrade, as our CEO insisted on getting Roundcube installed and it will not install with any version <5.2. 5.2's release was in Feb. 2008 and it seems to be mature and stable. It's been in Ubuntu since Hardy. Thanks, ~J~

distributed compiling with icecc out of a mock-chroot

Hi, CentOSers, I found out that icecc (icecream package), the distributed compiling system delivers a great advantage for me when building software. It's quite easy to set up mock 0.9.19 to use icecream by default. There must be the lines config_opts['chroot_setup_cmd'] = 'install buildsys-build icecream' ... config_opts['macros']['%_smp_mflags'] = "-jX" in the specific OS definition, where X in the _smp_mplags line is the summary of all CPU cores in your compiler network. You have to add a repository containing the icecream RPM. I'm using icecream-0.9.4. The icecream cache must be delegated to the mock chroot by adding config_opts['plugin_conf']['bind_mount_opts']['dirs'].append\ (('/var/cache/icecream', '/var/cache/icecream' )) to the site-defaults.cfg file. This is why mock 0.9.19 is required for this. Be sure that your icecream package contains /etc/profile.d/icecream.sh which is needed to wrap cc,gcc,g++,... for icecc in the mock chroot. Or you simply take my RPM. Remember, that the compile nodes must be in the same subnet, so it's a good idea that moving together your build machines using VPN bridges or whatever. Pure compile nodes may even be something else than CentOS (i.e. Debian) because the needed (target) compiler binaries are delivered over the icecc network, too - and held in a cache. Hi all, The CentOS 5.4 x86_64 tree seems to be missing a .treeinfo file: http://mirrors.tummy.com/mirrors/CentOS/5.4/os/x86_64/.treeinfo compared to http://mirrors.tummy.com/mirrors/CentOS/5.4/os/i386/.treeinfo This is useful info, as virt-install and virt-manager use this to detect the URL distro, which allows us to enable goodies like virtio for sufficiently new distros (5.4 included)*. - Cole * 5.4 detection isn't actually present in 5.4 virt-install, is available upstream.

Why are Spacewalk packages removed from CentOS?

Hi, severals users of Spacewalk [1] reported that Spacewalk client tools are removed [2] from CentOS (they are present in RHEL). It's about packages: rhn-check rhn-client-tools rhnlib rhnsd rhn-setup rhn-setup-gnome yum-rhn-plugin I dig up in history [3] and find that the reason was probably reference to rhn.redhat.com. Since current Spacewalk (default) configuration should not hit rhn.redhat.com I'm curious if those packages can be put back to CentOS? unit test generator for shared C/C++ library API

Dear colleagues, Linux Verification Center at the Institute for System Programming of RAS and the Linux Foundation have released a free unit test generator for shared C/C++ library API. It helps to quickly generate simple ("sanity" or "shallow"-quality) tests for all functions from the library API using their signatures and data type definitions straight from the library header files. The quality of generated tests allows to check absence of critical errors in simple use cases and can be improved by involving of highly reusable specialized types for the library. This tool can execute generated tests and detect all kinds of emitted signals, early program exits, program hanging and specified requirement failures. It can be considered as a tool for low-cost sanity checking of library API or as a powerful test development framework. Also it supports universal Template2Code format of tests, random test generation mode and other useful features. This tool is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU GPLv2. We suppose this tool can be very useful for shared library developers and recommend it for including to Cent OS. Hi, I have made complete rebuild and backport of Firefox 3.6.1 and Thunderbird 3.0.1 to CentOS 5. Packages come with language packs, debuginfo packages, xulrunner etc. I'm looking for QA testers. Upgrade from distro versions works pretty fine. Thanks, David Hrbáč

After a lot of feature creep and de-creep there is something that should mostly work. I'll post more details on that in the next few days. Also, by this weekend there should be yum-security working capability in this ft-testing repo.
