Where can I help?

Hello all, My name is Adam Miller and I'm currently a Fedora Packager/Developer and Ambassador, also a RHEL admin by $dayjob. I've come to a point to where I rely on CentOS for my VPSs hosted via Linode.com and would like to contribute back to CentOS where I am able. I was curious if there are any areas of CentOS that are currently in need of help/involvement? Building an automated rpm build system

Hi all, I need to setup a centos 5 x86_64 server to build custom rpms for centos5, rhel5 and oel5. My requeriments are: - Build rpms only from src.rpm packages and .spec files. - Restrict architectures: I only need to build these packages for i386 and x86_64 hosts. - See logs when packages are builded. - Easy to install and lightweight, if it is possible. I have seen mock and koji. Mock it seems ver older but can I use to accomplish these? And koji it seems very complex. Any ideas?? Exists another build system?? RHWAS

I had a look at the testing repo. Is it right there is only a fraction of RHWAS rebuild? Once packages are to stable will they go into plus or will there a rhwas repo? Resigning from the CentOS project

Hi, It was not an easy decision and I feel sad for having to take it, but I decided to resign from the CentOS project. I hope the team can fix the project's leadership, communication and transparancy issues (even within the team), because each is very important for the health of the CentOS community. And while I will be no longer part of the team, I still feel deeply involved as a user and advocate. My resignation feels also like a personal failure because I failed to change those things that I still believe to be important. It's sad day if you have to conclude that resigning is the best option and this will take some time to heal. missing src.rpm

hi, it seems for me that mcelog and libipathverbs src.rpm missing from 5.3's base on the mirror sites. and also strange that the binary rpms for this packages are only in x86_64 but not in i386. yours. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

Howto change arch for FirebirdSS rpm

Hello I have this problem: I make my own php rpms, base on src.rpm from CentOS but with my patches (more options included). I have built it on my machine originally but now I want make it in mock environment. I solved almost everything but Firebird support for 64bit arch. Original RPM from http://www.firebirdsql.org/ are made with amd64 arch but my php is x86_64. And I don't know how to solve it. .src.rpm for FirebirdSS and/or FirebirdCS is on available. I have this section in .spec %if %{with_interbase} %package interbase Group: Development/Languages Prereq: php = %{version}-%{release}, perl Summary: A Sybase/MSSQL database module for PHP. Do you how to make it? My questions: 1. Can I reconstruct .src.rpm from binary rpm or change arc in binary arch? How? 2. How to include amd64 arch rpm to my x86_64 repository? wrong iscsi-initiator-utils version in updates?

hi, there is an iscsi-initiator-utils-6.2.0.868-0.18.el5.src.rpm in 5.3 base and also in updates with exactly the same version number (and of course there are also i386 and x86_64 packages with the same version number). imho it's a bug our faulty copied files. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

yum being aware of earlier releases

One of the things thats been in the pipeline for a long time is yum's awareness of the entire product lifecycle. The way we ship centos-release right now, it only 'sees' the latest release, so in the CentOS-5 tree, at the moment you can only 'see' 5.3/ - should you need an older kernel or anything from 5.0/5.1/5.2 - that requires going in and fiddling / creating repo stanza's So what I would like to do is add awareness of these tree's into the centos-release package, but leave them disabled. allowing people to do things like : yum --enablerepo=5.2 --showduplicates list kernel however, while that does look quite nice and clean it will fail to give the user what they mostly want. so they will need something like this : yum --enablerepo=base-5.2 --enablerepo=updates-5.2 --show duplicates list kernel which is more along the lines of what someone might be looking for - all kernel packages in the current release+updates, and all the kernel packages released in 5.2's cycle. So, to work around this and to actually create a '5.2' repository we could just have a set of metadata that includes all of 5.2 and 5.2 Updates. Or we can leave it like this, needing people to enable both base and updates if they want a list of all the packages. Are there any more options ? Is there any interest in the Extras/ Plus/ repo's being available like this as well ? also, while we are at it, we can also drop in repo stanza's for debuginfo's and sources. Over the next few weeks I am going to change the way the debuginfo packages are pushed - which will make it possible to push those in sync with the binary packages. Another related question, targeted mostly at Seth and James - can creatrepo'd metadata contain a baseurl that is on a different host ? Can yum handle that ? if so, we could have the metadata on mirror.centos.org while the older packages can stay at vault. -- Karanbir Singh : http://www.karan.org/ : 2522219@icq
