adding a infra-type tag to mirrorlist

hi, As we build and produce an increasing number of images that people can directly consume, eg. AMI's or Vagrant or docker or openstack or opennebula images etc, I'm keen to add a mirrorlist tag to the url that allows us to better serve content into those areas. Specially since not all the images are built with exclusive centos linux distro content and in some cases, we might need to consider things like cloud-init and cloud-utils to be essentially base-os content for those roles. Hi all, I love the new design for the CentOS website, but I find the download page (www.centos.org/download) is lacking some content. Under the heading "Minimal Install Images", the link points to a 6.5 page. No mention of the 7.0 minimal image. Under the heading Older Versions, I think it should provide links to 6.5 and 5.10. Currently, there is only a link to the vault. Perhaps link to wiki.centos.org/Download instead, where all the download links are listed. Chris

Distribution Artwork and logos.

Recently we've had some requests from the community as to how they could contribute various pieces of design, artwork or wallpaper. In order to make it more convenient for such contributions, I've moved the legacy artwork git instance to https://git.centos.org/summary/sig-core!artwork-archive.git. This should be considered legacy and reference only. To facilitate new artwork contributions, I've created https://github.com/CentOS/Artwork which will be mirrored at https://git.centos.org/summary/sig-core!Artwork.git This will be the authoritative repository for logos, branding, design, etc. It will also allow contributors to submit pull requests for their contributions, such as backgrounds and other creative artwork. Right now, both these repositories are bare because we need to have a bit of a discussion around the layout within them. I don't claim to be an artist in any sense of the term, so I'm not going to dictate a structure that might impede the work from people who actually know what they're doing. The two possible layouts I have in mind are: 1. exploded directory structure for the various source tarballs related to distro artwork such as centos-logos. 2. NumaChip kernel config option

Since CentOS is heavily used on Numascale systems, it would be a great enabler to have CONFIG_NUMACHIP enabled in CentOS kernels. It has been enabled for some time in Ubuntu server kernels. Hi, I tried to match what is installed on a system with what is available at git.centos.org. for example ... scheduling some downtime for reimzul and git.c.o

hi, there are a string of updates backed up behind git.centos.org and the reimzul services. Things that we had in the pipeline from before when Seven came through, and then all the dev work and inside instance work that was done to make Seven go through :: lots of bandaid's in place. I'd like to schedule some downtime for services, so we can rebase out of some of this technical debt. towards that, I'd like to propose downtime from 09:00 UTC 20th Aug to 23:00 UTC on the 21st Aug; During this time, we'll need to more or less shutdown everything for some period of time. The actual outage will be much shorter, and I'll know once i've been able to run through the trial-dry-run, but folks should assume and plan for no services during the two days. C7 EC2 cloud image: Amazon Marketplace?

Hey Guys, I was just wondering if the strategy will be the same for C7 as it was for C6 with regards to using Amazon Marketplace or not. I think some arguments have been made in the past that using the Marketplace approach limits flexibility. Is it possible to adopt the same strategy that fedora uses [1] and not use the Amazon Marketplace approach? GCC 4.8 vs -fsanitize

I've been anxiously awaiting a system containing GCC 4.8.x so I could try the new -fsanitize=address and -fsanitize=thread tools on my project. imagine my dismay when I finally have time to try it on C7 and find that it rejects the -fsanitize option. It doesn't appear to have been enabled when the shipped GCC was built. :( Do I have any choices other than compiling my own GCC ?? don't use centos 7 as a developer workstation

Hi, May be it's not clear to everyone.. so this's just a quick notice to everyone. Don't use CentOS 7 as a developer workstation since currently there is not included any developer IDE. As eclipse was pulled out from the main distro and put into Red Hat Developer Toolset (which is imho a good idea not to use a 7 years old IDE). But Red Hat Developer Toolset is still not supported on rhel7 this means currently you have to install eclipse and all other packages from RHDT. Anyway RH said it will be supported... RFC: Alternative Desktop SIG

I would like to put together an alternative desktop sig which will build, qa, and support desktops which are not the Enterprise Linux primary or secondary desktops (GNOME and KDE). There are a couple of ground rules I would like to propose: 1) Any desktop system needs to have 3 sponsors who are people willing to do the work of building RPMS, coordinating user bugs with upstream, and fixing packages. The reason for 3 is a) that this SIG isn't a dumping ground for here is ABC-DE compiled, goodbye. b) that disagreements between sponsors should be deadlock free. c) that when people take vacations, etc there is continuity of operation. 2) Desktops do not keep to Enterprise lifetimes, but major version changes to the desktop need to be announced, tested and released to a schedule. Desktops which don't want to do that will not be part of the SIG. [A schedule does not need to be super detailed, but just alleviate surprise.] 3) Desktops can and will be removed from the SIG if there isn't an interest in keeping them up. This is mainly to cover that if ABC-DE desktop no longer has sponsors, other members of the SIG aren't obliged to support ABC-DE if they don't want to. 4) Some level of governance needs to be established so that there is a committee that can make sure that a desktop has 'sponsors', that it is not just code thrown over a wall and left, and that users are not left surprised when updates to the desktop occur. They may also make up packaging rules and guidelines as needed to alleviate problems that come up. As this is an RFC, these are just proposed rules to be solidified when the CentOS board considers the SIG. -- Stephen J Smoogen.
