Smal bug in yum 3.2.17-0_beta_18_2

Hello, I've installed yum.noarch.3.2.17-0_beta_18_2.el5 from the testing repository and found a small bug: If the yum-skip-broken plugin is installed yum doesn't work anymore after the update because the plugins functionality has been integrated into yum. The only way to make you work again is to remove the plugin. But this should IMHO also be done by the rpm on update. -- Heiko Adams <heiko.adams(a)gmx.de>

language specific community subsites

Hi, Different people seem to have a different take on what the whole point and aim of the regional / local communities is. I am laying out here what we started with for fr.centos.org and what we hope to use for : ja.centos.org de.centos.org es.centos.org cn.centos.org ----- The first thing really is that these are not regional subsites, they are language based. Which is why its JA.centos.org and not JP.centos.org - if there are other such situations, we would go with the language iso code. Moving onto the point of this whole exercise. Well the point is to give people who speak and communicate in a specific language a focused CentOS centric starting point and a web forum[1] that they can use. And pointers on where to go for help, documentations, details on the project etc. And this should help provide a means for language teams and translation groups to communicate easier. Apart from the starting page and forums there will be no other content hosted in the language subsites. All the content would be hosted alongside the regular english content. eg. the way our wiki is setup right now, and how different language translations are handled there. I know that fr.centos.org was only a pilot and one issue that lots of people pointed out was that it does not look like the other CentOS.org websites. Thats a point taken on board, and none of the other subsites are coming up till the ArtWork guys have a look and feel sorted for the fr.centos.org site. Those guys already have this in their ToDo list. still trying to build upstream srpms

i have been looking around and i can't see a way to figure out what --define options might be used for rpmbuild by rh. i want to build the rhwas 5 non-java srpms but there is lots of ifdef magic in the spec that could be important to building. so in general, how do we know how the upstream builds things? are there logs somewhere on ftp.redhat.com to look at? or do we have moles that tell us? i'm not even thinking about mock type stuff right now, just trying to figure out the actual rpmbuild command line to use. any clues out there? i've heard that 4.7 is brewing right now, so i understand that the people in the know may be off waving wands over the build gnomes and not paying much attention here...

Question about CentOS 4.0beta PowerPC boot CD

Hi all! Does anyone remember the CentOS 4.0 beta boot CD for PowerPC? This is the only one type of boot CD that go to boot a Kernel on qemu (-system-ppc) with the Open(Hack'ware)Bios. (The Kernel itself hangs up then) Neither the Yellow Dog 6 DVD, nor Fedora 6 - 9 PPC edition, nor Ubuntu / Debian boots on Qemu ppc. So I wanted to adapt the running yaboot loader and configuration to boot the YDL 6 Kernel and initrd to install the stuff to make a mock build server for the el5 ppc Target. But when I (re-)create the .iso with mkisofs, Qemu does not recognize the CD-Image as a boot CD. My Question: Does you (the creator of the 8.5 MB boot.iso) know, how you created the .iso Image? Which options did you have used? I did not have found any documentation how to create those CDs of that type (with a special Macintosh boot partition) that you have produced. Would you like to help me saying how to create qemu-system-ppc compatible boot discs ... ? bugzilla.redhat.com now has CentOS Issue number support

hi Guys, bugzilla.redhat.com now has direct support for cross referencing a CentOS Bug/Issue number. So when filing issues upstream that were reported on bugs.centos.org, check: Add External Bug: CentOS I'll try and get a Custom field added into mantis that would do something simiar for us as well. Should make life a *lot* easier when tracking upstream and when we are still getting comments on issues in bugs.centos.org Regards, - KB

yum metadata for the c5-testing repository now has sqlite db as well

Hi, As the subject line of this email says, the CentOS-5-Testing repository now also has the sqlite databases along with the usual xml files. This should result in faster end to end yum operations. Depending on how this goes, we will then start adding the sqlite db's to the CentOS-5 repos on mirror.centos.org as well. As always, feedback is required. build-from-scratch: SRPM Build order now working

Hi folks, Calculating the build order out of a set of source RPMs is now possible (even with BuildRequires from sources which are not included). The little trick rpm -E "`cat foo.spec`" did it. Special thanks to Jeff J.! But I have to shorten the output to the essentials because 'rpm' is crashing when the output of the spec file is too long. The packages are built on a (remote) mock build server where the ssh-agent must be running and the build server's key added to avoid interaction. The resulting sub directory (i.e. i386) must be published on a http server just-in-time to make it accessible for the mock build server. build-from-scratch checks the setting of the build server, then it calculates the build-order and does some sanity checks on the SRPMs. After that it begins to compile all SRPMs each in a clean build root in the right order. Build errors and dependency lacks are reported on the __BAD subdirectory within the output directory. This is also a great tool for writing high-quality .spec-files. Build-from-scratch can be downloaded from: http://c.dyndns.org/brian/pub/centos/5/tools/ (it needs createrepo and httpd installed.) My hint: Please read it with care before executing. VDR (the digital video disk recorder) is now completely mock-buildable on CentOS-5 and may be added to a contrib-testing-like repository (it is located at http://c.dyndns.org/brian/pub/centos/5/vdr) RPMforge does only accept .spec files where the original URLs to the source tarballs have partially been vanished or are changing in the future (which is not a good idea, I think). So I would have to get storage space there. I hope the build order calculation function helps accelerating the build process for the people who build CentOS and packages for it.
