Issue with ruby modules in CBS CentOS 8 Build root

Hi, For SIGs building el8 packages in CBS using ruby (other modules may be affected too), be aware of an unexpected behavior I'm finding where non-default module (ruby:2.6) is enabled instead of default on (ruby:2.5) for packages requiring ruby. This is causing installability issues in my case and blocking some builds. I've reported it in https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=17013 . It may be good to get feedback from other SIGs experiencing similar issues on this bug. Best regards, Alfredo

CentOS Dojo @ Facebook, April 24th. Call for presentations

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding a CentOS Dojo at Facebook on April 24th of this year. Facebook is located in Menlo Park (San Francisco) California. April 24th is the Friday before Red Hat Summit, so you can come for the main event (ie, the Dojo) and then stay for Red Hat Summit, and save on travel costs! The call for presentations is now open, at https://forms.gle/XYSbTBwUY1AQRT8e7 We are looking for presentations about anything CentOS related. However, our audience tends towards the more technical, so while introductory topics are welcome, we are more likely to select deeper technical talks. The call for presentations is very short. [Infra announce] : Speeding-up yum updates from inside AWS/EC2

Tomorrow, I intend to push a change to mirrorlist.centos.org nodes that will have a (good) impact to CentOS EC2 instances running from AWS network. Thanks to AWS, sponsoring the required backend infra for this to happen, our mirrorlist nodes will redirect yum/dnf operations internally in the EC2/AWS network. What does that mean for you ? - faster updates (due to Cloudfront caching, and so most of the recent packages/rpms being kept in cache in each region) - less data transfer costs (due to such updates being served from inside EC2 network[s] and so not leaving EC2 infrastructure) How does it work ? - When your CentOS EC2 instance hits mirrorlist.centos.org, it's identified as coming from EC2 network, thanks to https://docs.aws.amazon.com/general/latest/gr/aws-ip-ranges.html, loaded into our mirrorlist code - You'll be redirected to CloudFront, itself using a dedicated origin to which we automatically push all updates directly - if you're the first one asking for that update/rpm, Edge (cache server in that region) will retrieve it and will cache it while also serving it to you - if someone requested same rpm that you're asking for, it will be directly served from cache, so at "local" speed (we saw some rpm being downloaded on second attempt at ~80MB/s) We already tested with several volunteers in our staging environment that it was working fine, and so far so good. We have no real estimate about the number of CentOS EC2 instances in all regions, so we plan on doing a canary-style deployment, so Ansible switching our mirrorlist code/role one-by-one and observe the cloudfront statistics. CentOS 8.1.1911 .composeinfo

Hello, there seems to be .composeinfo available for the 8.0.1905 compose at http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8.0.1905/.composeinfo while it is missing for 8.1.1911 -- http://mirror.centos.org/centos/8.1.1911/.composeinfo returns 404 Not Found. The .composeinfo helps automatic imports of the compose to Beaker. Could the .composeinfo be added to 8.1.1911? softhsm is modular+uninstallable in CentOS 8 and not in RHEL 8

How to get subpackage which is not in any of the CentOS repos?

Hello, I'd like to build a libdnf plugin on CentOS 8 for which I'd need the libdnf-devel package. I've checked all repositories under /etc/yum.repos.d but it does not seem to be in any of them. I can see it was built as a subpackage at https://koji.mbox.centos.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=6375 but the "download" link pointing to https://koji.mbox.centos.org/pkgs/packages/libdnf/0.39.1/2.el8/x86_64/libdn… gives 403 Forbidden Request forbidden by administrative rules. For the record, it does not seem to be in RHEL 8 CRB either, it's likely just in the build roots ... but for CentOS 8, did it land somewhere accessible? CentOS 8 Artwork needed

To all the artists and designers here, we need your help. With RHEL 8 beta released, we need to start producing artwork for CentOS 8. It's time for the CentOS Artwork SIG, and anyone else that's interested in contributing to this effort, to start working on everything that will be needed for the new release. What we know we need is anaconda artwork, and new desktop backgrounds to replace the current '7' themed stuff. As we dig, we may find more things that need to be updated to the new 8 theme. Additionally, we will need to update some of the assets listed here: https://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork/Identity ... and produce new assets for 8 to be listed here: https://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork/Brand/Logo And, finally, we need someone to step up to lead this effort. PaaS SIG plans for CentOS8 ?

Hi, While bootstraping CloudSIG dependencies for CentOS8 [1], we've hit an issue with etcd, which used to be part of RHEL/CentOS7 but it's not in 8. As I see etcd to be part of kubernetes family (although also used out of it) I wonder what are the plans for the PaaS SIG in terms of adoption of CentOS8, is there any plan to rebuild etcd/k8s for it? The vault looks a little bare when it comes to centos-release source files there are just 3 of them.
