Due to a mandatory core switches upgrade in the DC where some services are hosted, we'll lose connectivity between some services/storage servers and some publicly available services will be impacted. CentOS Stream gitlab default branch change

As of a couple days ago, some of you might have noticed that the default branch for all RPM packages on CentOS Stream Gitlab [1] has been changed to “c10s”. This was the result of extensive discussion in CS-1985 [2] where we came to the decision that we needed to have a consistent default branch across the package set and that it should always track the latest Y-stream project. access to s390x arch for SIGs (looking for comments)

It's not the first time that some SIGs members are reaching out to me to ask about s390x architecture access for CBS (https://cbs.centos.org) This time, it was on irc, in #centos-devel channel. I promised to open a public thread on devel list so that we can reach out to bigger audience (SIGs and project leaders). Myself, talking about the Infra SIG needs, I'd love to have access to s390x architecture, as my current plan includes building through local mock on a different infra, and then having to launch manual processes, as our infra packages are built / signed / distributed like every other SIG, but so lacking s390x support. During that discussion on the centos-devel irc channel earlier today, someone mentioned https://openmainframeproject.org/news/developer-resources-for-linux-on-s390… Do you think (as SIGs) that it would be beneficial to eventually engage ? But also searching for CentOS Board members' opinion/thought on this first, as I don't want to start engaging with IBM through that public process if there is another way :) That reminds me this Fedora thread about similar request : https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/issue/11122 Opinions ? CentOS Showcase, Nov 4

Hi folks, Since we consolidated our in-person events to the one CentOS Connect each year at FOSDEM, there's been a lot of demand to bring back virtual events to show things off throughout the year. On November 4, we're going to host our first CentOS Showcase. This is a half-day virtual event, featuring short 20-minute talks where you can show off what you've been working on in CentOS. https://cfp.fedoraproject.org/centos-showcase-2024-11/ The CFP and registration are open. We're testing out new platforms as we do this, so please let us know if there are problems. We hope to run these virtual events 2-3 times per year going forward. Red Hat Liaison role filled

Hello CentOS community, A month ago we announced that Brian Exelbierd would be departing Red Hat and that I would be taking the Liaison role to the CentOS Board on an interim basis while Red Hat looked for a long-term candidate. I am pleased to inform you that Steve Wanless will be taking the Red Hat Liaison role, effective immediately. Steve is a Product Manager within the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Business Unit focused on infrastructure and ecosystem. He has also been looking into RISC-V and other forward looking technologies. Please give Steve a warm welcome to the project. josh

centpkg-sig - option for both git repos

Currently centpkg-sig is configured to point to git.centos.org and that is great for those SIG's that use that. But more and more SIG's are using gitlab.com/CentOS. I sent out an email a couple months ago when this pull request came in[1] and found out that some SIG's were using git.centos.org. But I've had another ping about changing the default, and it got me thinking about somehow having two defaults. I'm still thinking about how we could do that, but I'm curious about how much the CentOS SIG's would want this? There are a couple ways to do it. A) have two configurations with two "binaries" centos-sig-pagure centos-sig-gitlab B) Have one set as the default, and the other as an option centos-sig centos-sig --gitlab C) Something else, like checking both places to see if the package is there. Sounds icky, but just an example of "something else" So I guess I have two questions: - Do the SIG's want this? - Does anyone have a good idea on how to do it? Cloud SiG Meeting and Chair/Co-Chair Nominations and Elections

Hi folks, It's been 2 years since I'm chairing the Cloud SiG, and I think it's time for me to step down and let another, or new, members of the SiG give a new momentum. So we would like to take nominations for the chair and co-chair roles. Please reply to this email with your self-nominations and nominations for other members of the SiG. If you are nominated by another member of the SiG please reply to this mail as well with your acceptance. You can also reply privately to Amy (spotz) in cc. If we have a quorum, we will hold elections during the next meeting (Oct 10). If a quorum is not met, we will ask for 1-2 volunteers and hold an election outside our regular meeting. Thank you, Joel
