CentOS Directory Server (CDS) and more is available for testing

Hello, I'm happy to announce the availability of the CentOS Directory Server (CDS) for testing. The exact details on how to install it can be found on this wiki page : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/DirectoryServerSetup Besides functional testing of CDS it would also be great if you could watch out for errors in the rebranding (meaning the use of upstream's name and/or logo). Any issues you encounter are to be reported here, but you can also come to the #centos-qa IRC on freenode for support. Also the documentation for CDS can be found on our website at http://www.centos.org/docs/5/. Besides CDS there are other things in the testing repo on dev.centos.org that could use some testing. These include the openjdk 1.6 java version, the vm kernels (tuned for use inside VMWare etc) and a newer version of mysql. We are also looking for feedback on those things so we can move stuff to CentOS Extras or CentOS Plus. Bad checksums in repodata

It seems like there are some bad checksums in the updates repodata for the x86_64 5.2 tree (the onlyone I've checked). Trying to update a freshly installed (and fairly minimal, so I don't know exactly how many packages are affected) system I get: http://$myserver/yum/updates/centos-5/x86_64/RPMS/selinux-policy-targeted-2.4.6-137.1.el5.noarch.rpm: [Errno -1] Package does not match intended download http://$myserver/yum/updates/centos-5/x86_64/RPMS/yum-3.2.8-9.el5.centos.2.1.noarch.rpm: [Errno -1] Package does not match intended download http://$myserver/yum/updates/centos-5/x86_64/RPMS/selinux-policy-2.4.6-137.1.el5.noarch.rpm: [Errno -1] Package does not match intended download And, indeed, checking the sha1sums of those packages against the values in repodata/primary.xml.gz shows that they differ. I verified this against multiple mirrors. Running 'createrepo' fixes the issue. It seems like there's already a hint of this as Issue 2997. createrepo --split

Hi! I fought createrepo --split for hours and could not get it work. My command is: createrepo -g /path/to/my/comps.xml -c /tmp/cache -o /mycentos/os/x86_64-disc1 --split /mycentos/os/x86_64-disc? During installation, anaconda will fail as soon as it starts to install any packages. The error message is cannot find wvdial-....x86-64.rpm (or minicom-...rpm or something because I tried several times), which is in disc2. Any clues? Thanks in advance. Hao

Warnings building centosplis kernel-xen from .SRPM

A few weeks back I needed to rebuild the centosplus kernel-xen on x86_64, I don't recall getting anything other than the "usual" sprinkling of compiler warnings. Now I've needed to rebuild the centosplus kernel-xen, this time on i686, I do get a built and working kernel+modules, but I get a particularly "hairy" set of warnings as follows, anyone else rebuilt this from the .SRPMs and had similar, do those warnings look bad to anyone else? Or is it normal with 32bit xen? Network on CentOS 5.2

Hi all. I am not yet sure if this is a general problem and already known, but on my machine (a FSC M9400 Notebook) the network was slightly broken until I installed the latest updates. The IP address has been correctly assigned and is shown by ifconfig. The network access worked for a while (about 5 minutes) until it broke. Then, pinging external ressources was still possible but trying to access Webservers or other TCP links did no longer work. After an yum update (including a kernel upgrade) and a reboot the problem has gone. Best Regards Marcus

Create my own CentOS mug?

Hello, as I can't find any (cool) CentOS merchandise, I'm thinking about creating/ordering my own mug. In the CentOS wiki there is a very cool anaconda splashscreen; it's a real eye-catcher :) Unfortunately the image is not of high quality (probably because anaconda can't handle that). Some images have the corresponding .svg with it, the anaconda splashscreen doesn't. Can sombody point me to or provide me with a higher quality version of the splashscreen? I could offer help for getting a small shop started. However I'm not directly affiliated with the CentOS project, nor do I have any experience with creating webshops... New Horde version ... should we upgrade?

There is a new version of the Horde framework and the other packages that go with it. The new framework is 3.2.x and most of the other <name>-h3-<version> apps also go up a minor number. The problem with this upgrade is that there is a new database schema and it is a "lots of admin action required" upgrade to a new version. I can't really run the database upgrade SQL script during the upgrade process, so the user is left with a broken system after the upgrade. With enterprise linux distros, upgrades like this are to be avoided. So the question is ... do we just leave Horde at latest 3.1.x level and use 3.2.X in CentOS-6? There is the possibility of a horde32 (and all the others apps also as required) and set that to conflict with "horde < 3.2" on C5, BUT that introduces it's own issues. My feeling is that we stick with the latest horde in the 3.1.x series in CentOS-4 and CentOS-5 (which is 3.1.8) and we wait until CentOS-6 where we will introduce the 3.2.x series (and all the associated apps).
