Alternative media for the distro - like cloud images etc are all coming from and a part of the Core distro, its not SIG specific.
even though, one can label the isos and the image as one please. for instance freepbx ships "Stable-5.211.65-14 " which is based on centos 6.5 ( hence the 65 in the name ) , freepbx 2.11 ( hence 211 in the name ) and so on
sure, the SIG's can number and release in a way that makes the most sense for them, but in this case were talking about the Core Distro itself.
And what I and other preach is that the current naming scheme is just fine and there is no visible benefit in the proposed change
