Similarly ecryptfs was deprecated and shipped disabled in the el7 kernel.
The plus kernel is 'best-effort' but typically locked to what was shipped unless someone else provides a patch to fix/update something. It's entirely possible that one of the more recent kernel patches breaks ecryptfs functionality while still successfully compiling.
Lastly, the ecryptfs-utils package isn't shipped or supported by CentOS. Those come from EPEL.
