I thought the base and updates repos were supposed to track upstream. But thunderbird-31.2.0 is in the centos 5 updates repo, while RHEL5.11 just has thunderbird-24.8.0.
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2014-1647.html seems to suggest there's thunderbird-31.2.0-2 in RHEL 5.x as well.
