Who will prepare the logo? I do not know, we could use a volunteer.
I had to track down SVG logo files for the Robox website. Not sure, is this what you need?

That's exactly the one we'd like to use!

While not that logo directly, https://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork/Brand/Logo has several, and some detailed descriptions.

Thanks for pointing this out, but the main reason for not using the logos provided by the page you mentioned (and starting this discussion some time ago) is that the logos as they are do not look well in Boxes.
I'll wait till we have the authorization to use https://roboxes.org/res/centos.svg and then merge it in Boxes.
Best Regards,
Adding Tuomas (tigert) to help confirm the SVG is good for submission.

What we need is the logo that is missing from the ArtWork page to be contributed to the project so we can host it natively on the wiki.
Would the person who made this SVG file (copyright holder) wish to contribute it to the project under the CC BY SA 3.0?
I'd intended to ask a designer to make the logo without wordmark file, but if you've got a submission that is accurate -- and especially is derived from the existing logo files so that the colors are 100% accurate -- then whoever made that derivative can submit to the CentOS Project under the same license as the parent file.
Does that make sense?
It helps by moving us forward on one of the missing bits -- a logo without a wordmark on the Logos page that can be used under the existing trademark guidelines.
@tigert -- can you look at the logo file & confirm that it is good? I don't know or really care if it's derived from a particular source SVG as much as I want to be sure that the uncompressed details (colors, shapes, etc.) are 100% matching to the SVG with logo + wordmark.
Best,
- Karsten
Hello,
I made a quick test by hacking the boxes XML for Fedora, so it used the mentioned logo: https://roboxes.org/res/centos.svg
It looks good to me! Screenshot attached (obviously it reads Fedora but ignore that part and see the logo)

..and yes, I agree it looks better with just the symbol, as that's what every other logo uses there too.
We could use a vertical version (symbol and the text underneath) but the space is a bit tight there on that list, so Boxes would need to redesign that list to allow more space - but essentially it is using the logos as icons for new virtual machines. The description on the side will contain the OS name and version number information.
OS type as a default icon for new virtual machines sounds like an useful idea.

They key is that the logo isn't confusing without the wordmark, which it is not. Using just the logo is also permitted under the trademark guidelines for this sort of usage. I think we are 100% clear to use it this way.
Tuomas -- would you also approve this stand alone logo being contributed to the project for us to post on the wiki with "no wordmark" guides?
Fabiano -- let us know if you all can/would like to contribute this modification of the logo under the CC BY SA 3.0 Unported.

I'm really sorry but I simply have no skills to contribute with the logo, at all. So, if someone else could take the bullet that would be the best.

Sorry for the confusion, I don't mean to be asking you to do art/design work.
What I'm asking is if the creator of the SVG -- is that Ladar Levison? -- is willing to contribute the SVG to the project under the wiki's license (CC BY SA 3.0 Unported.)
Thanks,

Yeah, that would probably work nicely as an icon on situations like this.
I would have added it to the wiki page, but looks like I cannot edit the page without extra rights. I created an account on the wiki with FirstnameLastname naming.

You should have permission now, if my memory + research skills on MoinMoin ACLs is correct. (I added you to the top of ArtWork and it should cascade to all pages in that namespace with r/w/revert rights.)
That said, let's make sure (as I just asked Fabiano) that we have the permission to put this work up under the wiki's license.
(AIUI, there is a possible copyright on the work done on the logo to make the SVG, even though the contents of the SVG is a trademarked logo. I just want to make sure we're doing the right thing here AND we have it in the commit log on the wiki.)
Best,

What's the status of this issue?
Best Regards,
On 2/18/19 8:07 AM, Fabiano Fidêncio wrote:

Below is my understanding of status. Unfortunately there is no tracker for this, it's all in this email thread:
1. GNOME has permission to use the CentOS logo without the wordmark for the GNOME Boxes website, as shown in the example provided by GNOME. - This is already allowed in the trademark guidelines but there was no corresponding logo with usage guidelines. - GNOME Boxes can go ahead and use the logo without the wordmark.
2. Fabiano needs to track down who made the logo without wordmark and get that person to give permission to the CentOS Project to use that work.
3. Tuomas should have permission to add the stand-alone logo to the wiki page, AFTER he approves that the submission of work from 2. above is an accurate logo.
Frankly, I don't care if we skip steps 2 & 3 and have Tuomas make a new logo to post. However, Fabiano et al would then need to use that SVG or binary file for GNOME boxes.
Let me know if any other clarification is needed,
Best - Karsten

I asked tigert to create the logo ASAP, we need to also post it on the wiki with guidelines, and I agree it makes sense that he can also make the contribution/commit directly to the gitlab.gnome.org if that works. I can't speak for when he can get it done but I do want you to be able to move on right away.

Hey, I know a GNOME contributor who can help!
