Good evening,
I'm looking for at CentOS 8 Live ISO, but I fail to find one. Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction?
Greetings,

To the best of my knowledge, the CentOS Project hasn't released any.
I have remixed CentOS 7 quite a bit and I'm wanting to remix CentOS 8 too... but the livecd-tools package (which is in the CentOS 7 Extras repository and provides livecd-creator) isn't available in CentOS 8 (yet anyway). They do have the lorax package that provides livemedia-creator but I've not been able to get that to work.
I've asked in the #centos IRC channel a few times (if anyone has gotten CentOS 8 live media created) but haven't gotten any responses that I've noticed.
Anyone else?

They were not created due to lack of free time. I tried quickly with livecd-tools but it failed to even build an image and I had no more time to investigate. I then tried with lorax/livemedia-creator and was able to get one image that was working in live environment, but was trac'ing back during "liveinst" stage, so it wasn't even able to get installed. so same thing : had no time to investigate further.
So in summary : nobody came with a "hey, here is what needs to be fixed/patched and here is a PR", so we initially thought that in fact nobody was interested into Live ISOs anymore.
PS : last week, someone from CERN, Ben, said that he was working on this and he said he found what would be needed to "hot-patch" anaconda for it. He said he'd come with a PR for this, after a small discussion on irc in #centos-devel ... nothing (yet) received but maybe later, I'll let him comment on this

Yeah, I have been working on it in my spare time and it is not 'simple' for multiple reasons. Like Fabian I can make a 'simple' Live CDROM which takes 500 MB (1700 uncompressed) but not installable. I have tried a couple of other items but it looks like I need to dig into pungi to set up various things that livemedia-creator needs to add it together.

Personally, the fact that it's not installable sounds like a win to me. Having dealt with all the problem reports on the forums and IRC channels, having something where you cannot bypass the proper installer sounds like a Good Thing (TM). Can we not remove the "Install" option completely and then what you have sounds ideal!

As someone who did test live distros and resorted to "just install" after being satisfied , I think that the "install" button is useful. Now... if that means "switch to the stock installer" or "dump the content of removable media (1) to fixed media (2)" might be open for debate. But not needing to download and write to USB/DVD yet another iso is a win, from my point of view. As long as it actually works.
As a side note wrt the simple CDROM taking 500 MB: pretty please, stop caring if the images fit on a CD (that is, if you still do that ). I do not even remember when was the last time I wrote an iso to a CD-R as opposed to DVD-R. Everybody uses USB sticks nowadays and it's damn hard to find one smaller than 2 GB
(1) where removable media is in {CD, DVD, USB stick}
(2) where fixed media is in {USB stick, HDD, nvme, etc}

Remember that, "it takes all kinds." I prefer live media. I haven't really had any problems with systems that were installed from live media but then again I don't really do any complex partitioning. But anyhoo... installable live media is what I'm wanting so NAHH.

Hi,
so It's the usual suspect; time. I'm familiar with that old chap. :)
If anyone is interested in why I want a Live-media is that I'm planning on installing ZFS as the root filesystem[1] on Centos 8, and for that I need the aforementioned media type.
And maybe make a PR of a updated documentation for CentOS 8 on the way in the ZFS project.

Hello all,
I don't have too much progress here. I have built a livecd with livemedia-creator and as Fabian mentions, patched some parts of anaconda to avoid a bug. There are more bugs though - the most critical being that anaconda is defining the kernel/initrd to boot as '/boot/boot/{vmlinuz,initrd}'
I have opened this PR - though it's not very useful in it's current state: https://git.centos.org/centos/livemedia/pull-request/1
Cheers,
Ben 'figless' Morrice
