Eventually I do plan to put my hat in the ring, but possibly not this time around - I'll most likely wait for someone from RH to retire. How many Red Hatters are currently on the board, and should we replace Tru with a RH person? I realize it isn't a requirement to be (or not to be) from RH, but I think the board will be healthier if there are more non-RH people there, and since Tru is not RH it would make more sense for someone else to take the opportunity.

This is a good question. I'm going to decline to give my opinion on how many Red Hatters should be on the board so as not to influence the process. But I know this is an important consideration for many, so I'll provide facts.
Currently, five out of ten directors are Red Hat associates: Josh, Brian, Johnny, Amy, and Mike. Replacing Tru with a non-Hatter would maintain that ratio. Importantly, all directors except Brian are expected to act as individuals, not as representatives of their employers. Of course, in practice, everybody's priorities will be in some way influenced by how CentOS impacts their jobs.
(Brian is special. He's the only person on the board who officially speaks for Red Hat.)

Speaking in my role as the Red Hat Liaison to the CentOS Project, Red Hat enjoys seeing non-Red Hatters active in this project. We hope that many will be nominated.
This statement should not be interpreted to mean that a Red Hatter should not be nominated. As pointed out above and as we talk about in our open source guidelines[1] Red Hatters on the board, other than me, are expected to act as individuals.

I just wanted to follow up on this thread as I think Jethro asked a great question and received some great responses.
As already noted, Bex is the voice of Red Hat on the Board, but there are other Red Hatters serving on the Board who represent everyone who contributes to and/or uses the project. While I can definitely understand Jethro's decision for not nominating himself and respect it, I also hope the best candidates for the position are nominated no matter what company they work for, otherwise I think we do a disservice to the Community.
