anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? hi, The idea of yum-presto and deltarpm support on mirror.centos.org is something that seems to be worth visiting again. I am just wondering if there is anyone who would like to grab the issue, do the testing, workout whats involved and then try and come up with an implementation plan ? Hello, I'm happy to announce the availability of the CentOS Directory Server (CDS) for testing. The exact details on how to install it can be found on this wiki page : http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/DirectoryServerSetup Besides functional testing of CDS it would also be great if you could watch out for errors in the rebranding (meaning the use of upstream's name and/or logo). Any issues you encounter are to be reported here, but you can also come to the #centos-qa IRC on freenode for support. Also the documentation for CDS can be found on our website at http://www.centos.org/docs/5/. Besides CDS there are other things in the testing repo on dev.centos.org that could use some testing. These include the openjdk 1.6 java version, the vm kernels (tuned for use inside VMWare etc) and a newer version of mysql. We are also looking for feedback on those things so we can move stuff to CentOS Extras or CentOS Plus. Point yum repos to centos gpg key in /etc/pki/

Hi, as a follow up to a conversation in #centos-devel, I'd like to get input from the list on this issue. The question is where to point people, and tools like yum, for the centos gpg key used to verify rpm signatures. My opinion is that pointing to the key in /etc/pki/ which gets installed by the centos- release makes the most sense. This is already installed locally on any centos (-5) machine. See ie. http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2419 From a security standpoint, there are issues with either choice. However, if your install media has been compromised, then there would be many other ways to bypass the gpg checks rather than just changing the gpg key from the centos-release package. Pointing to a URL for the gpg key opens up more security issues such as dns poisoning. -Jeff

KVM-66 packages in testing

Hi all, We have just added KVM-66 packages to the CentOS 5 testing repository. This version of the Kernel Virtual Machine has numerous improvements over KVM-36, which is currently in CentOS-Extras. One of the notable new features is support for paravirtualized block and network devices through the virtio architecture[1]. Currently, only Linux kernel 2.6.25 provides paravirtualized block and NIC drivers. A paravirtualized NIC driver is available for Windows[2]. We'd like to hear from current KVM users whether this version has any regressions for their applications compared to KVM-36. Of course, we are interested in other bug reports as well! Information on using the CentOS Testing repository can be found on the CentOS Wiki at: http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories The KVM module package is named 'kmod-kvm', and has a dependency on the userland KVM tool. dkms or akmod?

hi, we've to build a few kernel modules for rhel/centos which is not included in the distro (or not working yet, like RTL8101E: http://wiki.centos.org/HardwareList/RealTekRTL8101) currently there are three ways for this: - the obsoleted fedora way http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Obsolete/KernelModules - dkms - akmod. livna development start to use akmod for all new modules, but there is not any kind of docs about it (or at least i can't find it). i'd like to hear a few pros and cons about each of these and why should we use the "good" one?:-) what's centos teams plan for the future? and why livna switch from the obsoleted fedora way to akmod instead of dkms? thank you for your help in advance. yours. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

Just wondering, is there a specific reason why CentOS RPMs released don't always match the upstream RPM name? E.g. http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2008-April/014854.html CentOS RPM name: virt-manager-0.4.0-3.el5.1.src.rpm RedHat RPM name: virt-manager-0.4.0-3.el5_1.1.src.rpm The binary RPMs for each arch differ in name similarly. CentOS-5 i586 status?

Hey all, I just had pretty poor luck installing CentOS-5 on one of these: http://koolu.com/Koolu-WE-Appliance/Works-Everywhere-Appliance.html I'm trying to turn this into a home server/router and think CentOS (with its long support cycles) is an ideal distribution for this sort of application. The catch, of course, is that its a AMD Geode (hence i586) based system, so the install doesn't get very far. I saw there was a recent thread on this list about i586 support for CentOS-5 and I was wondering if there is anyone currently working on that. If there is I'd be interested in helping out. Hi, there. is this letter meet the purpose of your list. I meet a problem on installing CentOS4.4 ServerCD. I want to use HP Embedded SATA RAID controller. But CentOS does not support this controller driver. And HP too. I searched so many site on the internet. Finally, I found some information, jakie wrote on www.centos.org topic -> http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5695&forum=29&po… I did same way he wrote (1) Connect USB FlashDisk on USB. this has SATA RAID driver for REDHAT 4. named... "adpahci-1.2.5571-1.rhel4.x86_64.dd". (2) Boot from CentOS ServerCD 4.4 x86-64bit. (3) linux dd: ------------> install.......... (4) I can see Single Disk. (5) Install.... My system is : OS : CentOS 4.4 Server CD HP DL320G5 3050 HDD : 2*80GB Seagate SATA II HDD RAID : HP Embedded SATA RAID Controller. All process is clear. And there is no error msg. But reboot after install finished, there are some error messages..... some partition mount failed. "/usr", "/sys" are failed to mount but "/boot", "/", "/tmp", "var" and most partitions are mounted. Prompt appear, I enter on the system. there is no files in "/usr" directory. So, I can't use "yum", "rpm", "up2date" and so on. Is this ServerCD's problem? And How can I solve this problem ? Thank you.

Trying to recompile the openldap overlay smbk5pwd with the -DDO_KRB5 option

I have heimdal and openldap installed on a server. I used the openldap binaries from the testing branch, and I installed heimdal from source with the --with-openldap option. When I try to use the smbk5pwd module to sync heimdal and ldap passwords, I receive the following error: Checking configuration files for slapd: /etc/openldap/slapd.conf: line 167: smbk5pwd: <smbk5pwd-enable> module "smbk5pwd-enable" only allowed when compiled with -DDO_KRB5. I downloaded and installed the src.rpm from testing, but I don't know how to recompile the overlays rpm with that option. Can someone tell me how to do this? - Scott

WebStack on CentOS-5

hi, Background: the webstack on C4 is only available in the CentOSPlus repo since it overwrites packages from the base repo. For the Webstack on C5, Johnny and I spoke about and want to propose changing that a little bit. Essentially, move the webstack to a subdirectory under the CentOSPlus repo and have metadata for Just the Webstack available as an option for people who dont want the rest of CentOSPlus. The default action will remain the same. i.e. people who have the plus repo enabled, will see the entire published webstack in exactly the same way as they did for c4. Ofcourse the aim will be to ensure we get 100% dep closure on Base+Updates+WebStack as well as Base+Updates+Plus. Where Plus will include WebStack + other packages. We hope to address a few issues ( in order of importance ): a) People moving from c4 will see no difference in the way things work b) People who want just the webstack can see 'only' the webstack and not need to use includepkg / exclude's c) the rsync targets from mirrors wont change, so people mirroring the plus repo will get the new packages, along with combined metadata. The base packageset will get released to -qa soon, and most likely to testing in a few days time. Comments ? btw, one thing to note here - we dont want to make it a habit of building X number of repos. CentOS-5 on i586

Hi Guys, Thanks Manuel for stepping up and offering to help with the i586 work. I know that we had already done some work on this a long time back, Daniel doing most of the heavy lifting at the time. Afaik, Daniel has been busy with RealLife [tm] issues, so I am not sure if he wants to stay as the centos-devel as point man for this project. If not, I will step in and get involved. He did, however, ask a very important question - is there enough traction in the i586 world today to even consider the i586 port worthwhile ? Since most major platforms really are i686 ? I'd still like to see some answers to that question! I do have some old i586 stuff ( things that came out from a LaCie 1U storage box Via C3, 500Mhz ) and a AMD K6-2 550Mhz Compaq Laptop from years gone by. Both of these can be made available if people want something central to test on / test with. Dear Sirs, I was planning to offer my help for rebuild Red Hat Directory Server 8.0 for CentOS. But when I wanted to pick last 1.6 OpenJDK this morning, I saw that this job was already done. And moreover, It seems to be ship with all the CentOS artwork. That's Great, so I'll get rid of my own RHDS rebuilt with 1.7 IcedTea and I will test yours today ! JML PS : Johnny you were right and me wrong when I said that Red Hat would keep RHDS closed (even if it's built with proprietary 1.4.2 Java IBM).

Project proposal: CentAS

All, I would like to formally propose a new project for CentOS for inclusion on projects.centos.org: CentAS. The CentAS project aims to provide a free and redistributable version of JBoss which compiles with Red Hat trademark guidelines and policies. Each release will mirror the stable community releases provided by jboss.org, sans trademarked names and logos. The 4.2 branch will be the initial release target. Future considerations include packaging/redistribution within CentOS, as well as the possibility of creating a free and open CentOS Application Stack. rhwas 5 work?

are there people working on getting the rhwas 5 rpms builtup for centosplus 5? the gophp5 people are starting to have an impact and drupal users are wanting php 5.2, which i was surprised to see in the rhwas srpms directory. the users might even be willing to be testers since they're on a virtual server.
