anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. Windows Server 2008 guest on KVM

Windows Server 2008 does not run on the KVM version (36) in the CentOS repository. W2008 is the current version of Windows Server and not a Beta any more, so increasing numbers of people will be attempting to install CentOS+KVM+W2008, and running into difficulties. KVM version 72 is required for W2008 according to this: http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status What needs to happen to get KVM-72 or later into a repository? There is a very good KVM HowTo... http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/KVM ...but it does not explain how to install a version that will run W2008. I have documented a solution in this forum post... http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=19034&forum=38 ...but it relies on unofficial RPMs from www.lfarkas.org. Is it OK to put that advice in a HowTo? It took me days of research, recompiling kernels and packages etc to get CentOS+KVM+W2008 working. I'm not complaining, it was fun, but I'm concerned that other people are just giving up and switching to Xen or Debian e.g. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?p=5606587#post5606587 ...and it would not take much to keep them on-board. hi, it seems there should happened something with centos build system between kernel 2.6.28-128.1.1 and 2.6.18-128.1.6 compilation. because although the two spec files only differs with a few dozen of patches the resulted src.rpm are different ie: ----------------------------------------- # rpm -qp --requires kernel-2.6.18-128.1.1.el5.src.rpm | grep unifdef unifdef # rpm -qp --requires kernel-2.6.18-128.1.6.el5.src.rpm | grep unifdef # ----------------------------------------- and this small differences means the latest kernel can't be compiled in mock. what's more the same is not true for rhel's kernel ie. in case of rhel's 2.6.18-128.1.6 it gives unifdef. so it's a centos bug and with this bug centos don't follow upstream behavior. just my 2c. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

debuginfo packages on the mirrors

Just to inform that some *debuginfo* packages have landed on some mirrors. For example the latest kernel 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 (and all his variants) has the corresponding debuginfo package. i386/noarch RPMS differences between x86_64 and i386 repos?

I have my own local copies of the CentOS 5.3 x86_64 and i386 repos - and to save space, I ran 'hardlink' over the RPMS directories - however it found that a number of the i386 and noarch RPMS in the x86_64 tree were 'different' from the matching RPMS in the i386 tree. Out of the 1186 i386/noarch RPMS on the 5.3 x86_64 iso image, 222 are different from the matching i386/noarch RPMS from the i386 iso image The difference appears to be the 'Signature' date - the rest of the info from 'rpm -qi' appears identical. Most of these 'different' RPMS are ones that have been updated in 5.3 Is there a reason why these RPMS have a different signature date? Not a major issue ... Thanks James Pearson

Repository metadata problems

Hi, I today have a problem as well with metadata being newer than what is available on disk. I wonder whether we should require from mirrors to use rsync with --delay-updates as problems with repository metadata was exactly why we got this feature added to rsync a couple of years ago. We could enforce it from the CentOS mirrors by checking the rsync version and/or options provided to the server.
