hi guys, lots of people on this list are keen on contributing to the CentOS effort - and one place where we could, as a group of people, make a massive difference is being able to deliver a ksplice upgrade model. A couple of people have started in silo's to try and get something together but I feel it might be a good time to try and see if we can do somethng as a group. Do we have people on the list who find the idea of rebootless kernel upgrades interesting ? Is there some desire to try and make that happen within the CentOS Ecosystem ? - KB

anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. If anyone would like to help, please feel free to jump right in. I noticed on the SIG that people interested in other ports of interest. I'd like to express interest in the IA64 port. What is the best way to get started? I have two SGI Itanium 2 based machines. One 64 processor x 64GB SGI Altix and a 32 processor x 32GB RAM SGI Prism. They are currently running CentOS 4.8 and I would love to be able to run CentOS 5.5 on them to get them into compliance with the rest of the cluster. -- James A. LibreOffice for CentOS-6 Test and Feedback

hi guys, NuxRo has offered to maintain a LibreOffice rpm set for CentOS-6-Extras; A test build is now available at http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/testing/ Feedback at http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5117 or here on the list. Remember that these rpms wont move into the main CentOS repos till such time as there is significant feedback about, it works. And little or no feedback saying its broken. As this is also the first rpm into the c6/testing repo, feedback is also welcome about how we can improve the process. Regards, - KB

Hi Everyone, I installed CentOS 6.0 as VM on XenServer 6.0, but it seems that the CentOS 6.0 does not contain xen headers. Where should I get those headers. Some how I got 64-bit CentOS 6.0 Xen headers, and if I use in CentOS 6.0 32-bit OS, what are the complications. How can we rewrite the 64-bit headers to 32-bit headers. hi, what happens when RHEL 6.2 is out before CentOS 6.1, will CR 6 contain updates from 6.2 even though CentOS 6.1 is not released ? looks like there are still some major showstoppers which prevent CentOS 6.1 release. regards, ulrich

moving the CR repo into mainstream release

hi guys, We are still in the early days of CentOS-6, and perhaps a change in policy at this time might be acceptable. I'd like to propose moving the CR repo into the mainline repos. So the change I'm proposing is : - to have a /6/ release that is always updated. - to have the /6.X/ releases that are contained to within that point release what this means is that /6/ will point at the most recent release of 6.X/ for the os/ & isos/ repo. The other repos would be local to the /6/ symlink, and will be always updated ( and stay that way ). there is going to be quite a lot of implications backend / mirror side that we will need to work out, but its effort + pain as a one off, for what can be a major improvement in the user experience. thoughts ? - KB

Hello everybody, I remember Karan got the ksplice-code in order to be able to fork this great technology for CentOS and not let got Oracle all alone with this. So what happened the last weeks/months regarding this great idea ? I'd personally and professionally be interested in using it for our deployments but also to contribute where possible - we have no kernel-development knowledge here to help out but maybe we can help in other ways as well. Is there already any project fort he fork going on or did the idea die or sleep silently the last few weeks ?? Curious greetings from switzerland, Andreas

Dependency missing for ipa-server

When i browsed RHEL's ftp on redhat i viewed "pki-core" package that's not present at this time in CentOS's CR repo. So, my question is: This package will be in CR repo or it will be released when C6.1 be ready ? Regards.

Identi.ca and GCL or clisp

Is there a identi.ca client that I can use? And why there is not GCL or clisp in the repo? [urgent] Please, push tzdata update from CR into main 6.0 repo.

Good day. The "tzdata-2011h-3.el6.noarch.rpm" needs to be pushed into mainline 6.0 repo ASAP. The mainline 6.0 repo version of tzdata contains no update for latest Russian (and maybe some others, don't know) timezone changes, causing major headaches. I know it's against mainline policy, but here overal stability is an issue. I would like to say a big "Thank you" to all of the developers of CentOS!! Especially since TUV released V6 it seems to have gotten a lot harder for you people in providing the community with this great OS (including but not limited to a lot of heat in the mailing lists). Thanks for carrying on! CentOS6 made my life at work much easier. I'm moving some 30+ machines (primary function iptables-Firewalling) from OpenSuSE to C6, so I won't have to do a major distro upgrade every 18 months. Since the first deployment of C6 starting this summer, it worked like a charm. Of course, I only use a very limited set of its features (basically "minimal desktop" is enough), but the long term support counts! Also the ps performance toolkit - which is based on C5 - works great, part to you guys providing the OS. The work you do is very much appreciated! Keep it up. cheers Christoph
