anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. I noticed on the SIG that people interested in other ports of interest. I'd like to express interest in the IA64 port. What is the best way to get started? I have two SGI Itanium 2 based machines. One 64 processor x 64GB SGI Altix and a 32 processor x 32GB RAM SGI Prism. They are currently running CentOS 4.8 and I would love to be able to run CentOS 5.5 on them to get them into compliance with the rest of the cluster. -- James A. Boot.Kernel.Org and CentOS

hi guys, About a year or so back, there was some effort put into getting a CentOS-5 image setup to work off boot.kernel.org and be able to get that install process working. That effort was abandoned since it needed quite a lot of work to be done, and was startig to become massively intrusive. Centos server installation

I am just suggesting a new opinion on centos server. During the installation, why cant you add a check or click all box to select all packages you are going to install when choosing packages or service you want to install in the server. i have to do the clicking on 1 at a time just to install like 300 or more packages. mock using yum .repo file?

Hi. I hope this is not too off-topic. I am setting up and learning mock to build packages for CentOS 6, and I have couple of questions for experts. 1. Can I somehow use .repo files from /etc/yum.repos.d/ ? I use 20-30 .repo files on and off (each repository(folder) in it's own file for easier manipulation without editing files), and editing repo configs in 2 places is not too appealing. I have seen this: $MOCK --copyin /etc/yum.repos.d/texlive-mock.repo /etc/yum.repos.d/ is this what I am looking for? 2. Will cleaning mentioned in manual delete all installed rpms (dependencies) or just building folder? If I want to compile same (or different but using same dependancies) package, how to keep dependencies packages for faster compile? I have ccache = 4G, yum cache on 15 days and root cahce on 10 days. Will this do? 3. How do yum priorities work in mock? I have them set for every repo and if I can use .repo files will mock honor priorities? If .repo files can not be used, do I have to sort repos based on priorities values or can I use priority= ? hi guys, lots of people on this list are keen on contributing to the CentOS effort - and one place where we could, as a group of people, make a massive difference is being able to deliver a ksplice upgrade model. A couple of people have started in silo's to try and get something together but I feel it might be a good time to try and see if we can do somethng as a group. Do we have people on the list who find the idea of rebootless kernel upgrades interesting ? Is there some desire to try and make that happen within the CentOS Ecosystem ? - KB

CentOS Missing Packages (extras->mcrypt)

It looks like in the extras repo for CentOS 6 the following packages are missing: libmcrypt.x86_64 : Encryption algorithms library libmcrypt-devel.x86_64 : Development libraries and headers for libmcrypt php-mcrypt.x86_64 : Standard PHP module provides mcrypt library support These packages exist in the extras repo for CentOS 5.6 and are a critical part of the whole php and mysql interaction.

The rpm build and the distro build services for the 5.x distro is independant from the 6.x stuff, so it should build in parallel and be available shortly ( via the CR setup ) There are a couple of updates from 5.6 still pending - I just pushed those out. - KB

hi guys, Opinions on what would be a good time to announce rpms that make it into the CR/ repo's ? As we build through 5.7 and 6.1, and start pushing the packages into the CR/ repo, should we also be announcing those updates ? On one hand it seems like the best time to announce it since the rpms are available - however they are only available to people who specifically opt into the CR/ process, so perhaps the best time to announce them would be when the rpms are in the os ( or updates/ ) repos in the next release. thoughts ? - KB

Updates proposed but no post on centos-announce

Reading the various e-mails in centos-devel list archives I understood that each update for 6.0 would go through a specific centos-announce e-mail.... is this correct? I can found 2 install + 78 updates proposed to my CentOS system while apparently no new message in http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2011-July/date.html since 10th of July Also in CentOS home page I can see: " Since upstream has a 6.1 version already released, we will be using a Continous Release repository for 6.0 to bring all 6.1 and post 6.1 security updates to all 6.0 users, till such time as CentOS-6.1 is released itself. " But I understood CR repo has to be specifically "activated"... how? So what is current situation? Possibly lists.centos.org non updated but e-mails actually sent to subscribers...? In attach output of "yum update" on this system... as of 15th of July when I tried (I didn't update) Are perhaps these a sort of 0 day updates, as it happens in Fedora? Thanks in advance Gianluca

Spacewalk packages removed in CentOS 6?

I just read: http://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS6.0#head-c667a3d0dc5a41af… And I wonder why has been: rhnlib rhn-check rhn-client-tools rhnsd rhn-setup rhn-setup-gnome yum-rhn-plugin removed from CentOS 6? We discussed it more than year ago: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2010-January/005307.html http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2010-February/005402.html and the conclusion was that we will leave CentOS 5 as is (i.e. do not add there this packages) but in CentOS 6 this packages will not be removed. Anaconda install groups vs yumgroups?

Hi, In looking at the C6 installer there are several types of installs listed. In the past I could do an install and anaconda would tell me what yumgroups it installed via the anaconda.cfg that was dropped in /root. with c6 anaconda still drops this file but none of the yumgroups are listed. Is there a way to determine what yumgroups a particular install group installs? For instance if I do a server install which groups actually get installed? I am thinking there is something in the anaconda source but so far I am unable to find it and Google is not useful. Is this info listed anywhere? Updates between minor releases

Hi all. In general the release of CentOS 6 has been appreciated a lot in the German-speaking countries. But a lot of ppl complained about how updates are handled in transition phases between minor releases (e.g. 5.5 to 5.6). >From what I can see on the announce list there has be a lack of updates for about two month: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2011-February/thread.html http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2011-March/thread.html where some critical updates where pending. I remember that we once agreed that if a critical update has been released during transition phase, it should be backported. Maybe we have to completely re-think the process. I guess the main aim is to keep minor releases (the ones that are shipped on the media) in sync with upstream. They should not contain newer packages, then upstream to keep compatibility on release date. But on the other hand, already installed systems need to be patched. I am not completely sure how this scenario is handled atm but if not already done this way, i would suggest that the majorversion directory (e.g. 5/) should be fed with these missing updates so that they become nearly next-minor. Similar to what is planned for 6.0 -> 6.1 Besides that the minor release trees (e.g. 5.7/) should only contain packages that are part of the release, no post release updates, on release date. When building my custom xen packages, one of the dependencies is dev86 which found in x86_64 CentOS-6.0 repo (i.e. http://mirror.centos.org/centos-6/6.0/os/x86_64/Packages/) but not in i386 CentOS-6.0 repo (i.e. http://mirror.centos.org/centos-6/6.0/os/i386/Packages/) Is this intended or missed for dev86 not in i386 CentOS-6.0 repo? hi, i know c6 it is not released, but centos-release packages was not upgraded when doing upgrade from 5.6 to 6.0 (using upgradeany option). minimal install & avahi

Hi I just did a minimal install and then installed avahi-daemon and avahi-dnsconfd. however, both avahi-* fail to start as services. it seems that they try to use dbus, which is not installed in a minimal install. is there something wrong with avahi dependencies or am i missing something? also, at least one serivce is complaining about nss-mdns, which is not available as a package -- Ferry Huberts

Xen and timekeeping

Hi to everyone, First of all, I'm not sure I'm posting to a correct list, but please let me borrow a minute of your precious time before directing me to the correct place. I have the problem with Xen domU's and timekeeping in dom0. Time in dom0 was incorrect by 5 hours due to wrong timezone assumed. Fixed it by ntpdate ntp.nist.gov. The time on a dom0 was changed. I didn't append xen.independent_wallclock=1 to sysctl.conf thus the time in all domU's was also changed. But THEY DIDN'T "KNOW" THAT! The 'date' output in domU shows time unchanged, as before, incorrect by 5 hours. But any current_time-dependent operations don't behave correctly. Quagga's OSPFd daemon doesn't add routes. 'service dhcpd stop' hangs forever while correctly stopping the daemon. AFAIK, it hangs on 'killproc' [root@gbuh-ufa init.d]# grep killproc dhcpd -A 2 -B 2 echo -n $"Shutting down $prog: " killproc $prog RETVAL=$? [ $RETVAL = 0 ] && rm -f $lockfile From http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/15380.html killproc: killproc kills a process which is given by a full path to the executable. ...cut... (by default a SIGTERM is sent, then a SIGKILL if the process does not die within 5 seconds). So a 5 seconds interval becomes 5 hours and 5 seconds - something I'm not willing to wait for. The problem was worked around when I did a 'date 07111158' on a dom0 and all domU's semi-simultaneously. Is this behaviour normal or should I file a bug?
