hi guys, lots of people on this list are keen on contributing to the CentOS effort - and one place where we could, as a group of people, make a massive difference is being able to deliver a ksplice upgrade model. A couple of people have started in silo's to try and get something together but I feel it might be a good time to try and see if we can do somethng as a group. Do we have people on the list who find the idea of rebootless kernel upgrades interesting ? Is there some desire to try and make that happen within the CentOS Ecosystem ? - KB

anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. I noticed on the SIG that people interested in other ports of interest. I'd like to express interest in the IA64 port. What is the best way to get started? I have two SGI Itanium 2 based machines. One 64 processor x 64GB SGI Altix and a 32 processor x 32GB RAM SGI Prism. They are currently running CentOS 4.8 and I would love to be able to run CentOS 5.5 on them to get them into compliance with the rest of the cluster. -- James A. LibreOffice for CentOS-6 Test and Feedback

hi guys, NuxRo has offered to maintain a LibreOffice rpm set for CentOS-6-Extras; A test build is now available at http://dev.centos.org/centos/6/testing/ Feedback at http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5117 or here on the list. Remember that these rpms wont move into the main CentOS repos till such time as there is significant feedback about, it works. And little or no feedback saying its broken. CentOS 5.7 has no centos-release-cr package

Following the strong recommendation on the CentOS-announce mailing list, we had added the centos-release-cr package to our kickstart for PXE based installs. Since the release of 5.7, this kickstart fails since the centos-release-cr package can no longer be found. Given that there is a 5.7/cr directory, it appears the plans include having CR being an on-going convention rather than a on-time thing just for 5.7. If I understand this correctly that CR will be used again once upstream releases 5.8, then I would like to be able to leave centos-release-cr as part of my kickstart so it is already configured for the next batch of CR updates. Is it possible to add centos-release-cr to the 5.7/cr sometime soon? Also, on a somewhat related issue, is there a reason why this is not an single noarch package? Thanks

Is there a reason for that ? or is it just down to inconvenient ( its a bit messy needing to get drpms into secure-box type environments ), and of academic interest ( in that the re-assembled rpm will be signed, and need to go through a verify process ). - KB

Advice on compiling multiple packages with mock

Can someone point me in the right direction? How do you compile multiple packages continuously with mock? I have some 50 srpms waiting to be recompiled via mock for both i386 and x86_64 (again). 1. Is there a command I can give so all the packages are compiled in one go? 2. Do I have to sort them in proper order (dependencies) or can I just command to mock to check and sort them? Any help is appreciated, examples welcomed. CVE-2011-3192 rpms for CentOS 5 still pending?

According to the CentOS-CR-Announce list, there is recently an update for httpd in CentOS 5 CR repo. But the announcement http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-cr-announce/2011-September/000293.… refers to upstream RHBA-2011-1067, which is the version released with 5.7 base packages. Upstream has an update for CVE-2011-3192 whose announcement is RHSA-2011-1245, and this update of httpd has version number 2.2.3-53.el5_7.1, which is higher than that in C5 CR repo (2.2.3-53.el5.centos). Maybe there should be another update for httpd in CentOS 5 CR repo. BTW, any update on C6.1 (or 6.0 CR packages)? Regards.

CentOS and Scientific Linux Cern installations with FAI

I'm very happy to announce, that FAI (Fully automatic Installation) now can install and configure CentOS and Scientific Linux Cern (SLC). You can use a Debian FAI server for installing CentOS version 5 and 6 or SLC 5 and 6. As an example I've also built a FAI multi-distribution CD which installs those three different Linux distributions with different configurations. Get this ISO image from http://fai-project.org/fai-cd/ This installation is very quick. I've done a CentOS 6.0 installation (with graphical desktop) in 199 seconds (in a kvm instance on a quad-core 3.2GHz, hard disk in RAM) and it only needs 490 seconds on the real hardware when installing from CD. Hello, trying to make a usb install on a thin client it seems I notice an incorrect diskboot.img image in 5.7. Anyone already discovered/reported this? URGENT: Website and fora at risk due to automated spammer account creation

http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=5105 Forum moderators have been battling spammers creating bogus accounts by the thousands using automated "bots". The only way moderators currently have to attack the problem is by a laborious process of searching for such accounts and selecting them for deletion. This has been working, although at the cost of considerable time to perform the operations; however, such accounts are currently being created at a rate of thousands per day making deletion of 50 at a time via the web interface a practical impossibility. Our approach has been to delete all "Inactive" accounts more than 7 days old (these are being created at a rate of about 1 per minute) and "Active" accounts with no posts and either no logins, or with no logins in the last 30 days. The latter are the rapidly growing problem, and more than 40,000 accounts with zero posts created between 7 and 30 days ago currently exist. Account creation at this rate will likely bring the site down if the situation is not dealt with soon. Proposed approach: 1. Implement some automated way of deleting accounts as described above. 2. Implement captcha or some other mechanism in the account creation process to foil the bots. Phil

My intention is to compile with that patch to see what files are different (only few I guess) so I can try to create a separate python-curesemenu package. CentOS 6 location does not have symlink to 6.0 cr

Is this intentional or something missed? Kind proves an earlier point I made that a single swap of symlink from 6 -> 6.0 to 6 -> 6.1 as more effective way of ensuring correctness than 6/centosplus -> 6.0/centosplus 6/contrib -> 6.0/contrib ... if this is by mistake. ;) -- James A. Does CentOS 6 udev rule format diff from CentOS 5?

Hi, I've just updated from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6. I have one or my own udev rule in /etc/udev/rules.d to change permission of a USB device which works on CentOS 5 but is no longer working on CentOS 6. Are there any changes in CentOS 6 regarding to the udev rule format? Thank you. hce

Hello, at announce message as in http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2011-August/017689.html I can see in particular: - All contents in the CR repo will be announced into a separate announcement list; once 5.7 is released the announcements will be re-sent to the centos-announce list. Now I'm testing it on a CentOS 5.6 x86_64 system and indeed after enabling the CR repo it pulls and updates about 70 packages and it is working ok (comparing with a RH EL system I can see some difference, probably due to latest upstream updates not already ib sync). Same kernel version as upstream in particular. But I can't see any message at http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-cr-announce/ Is this because archives are not populated or because the activation of the dedicated announce list is going to be a future step? Is CR aim only to provide security related packages or all the updates released by upstream provider in the mean time that CentOS official 5.7 isos are released? Any way to easily see what is the date current CentOS CR is in sync with? And any easy way to see time stamp of latest upstream update? BTW: during June and July the qaweb.dev.centos.org web site was filled with the calendar estimated section too and I found it very useful to have a synthetic view of milestones. Currently it is empty for 5.7 and 6.1. Is this due only to the huge amount of parallel work going through or are there any other reasons? Thanks in advance and keep on with the great work! Gianluca
