CentOS 6 location does not have symlink to 6.0 cr

Is this intentional or something missed? Kind proves an earlier point I made that a single swap of symlink from 6 -> 6.0 to 6 -> 6.1 as more effective way of ensuring correctness than 6/centosplus -> 6.0/centosplus 6/contrib -> 6.0/contrib ... if this is by mistake. ;) -- James A. Does CentOS 6 udev rule format diff from CentOS 5?

Hi, I've just updated from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6. I have one or my own udev rule in /etc/udev/rules.d to change permission of a USB device which works on CentOS 5 but is no longer working on CentOS 6. Are there any changes in CentOS 6 regarding to the udev rule format? Thank you. hce

Hello, at announce message as in http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2011-August/017689.html I can see in particular: - All contents in the CR repo will be announced into a separate announcement list; once 5.7 is released the announcements will be re-sent to the centos-announce list. Now I'm testing it on a CentOS 5.6 x86_64 system and indeed after enabling the CR repo it pulls and updates about 70 packages and it is working ok (comparing with a RH EL system I can see some difference, probably due to latest upstream updates not already ib sync). Same kernel version as upstream in particular. But I can't see any message at http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-cr-announce/ Is this because archives are not populated or because the activation of the dedicated announce list is going to be a future step? Is CR aim only to provide security related packages or all the updates released by upstream provider in the mean time that CentOS official 5.7 isos are released? Any way to easily see what is the date current CentOS CR is in sync with? And any easy way to see time stamp of latest upstream update? BTW: during June and July the qaweb.dev.centos.org web site was filled with the calendar estimated section too and I found it very useful to have a synthetic view of milestones. Currently it is empty for 5.7 and 6.1. Is this due only to the huge amount of parallel work going through or are there any other reasons? Thanks in advance and keep on with the great work! Gianluca

CentOS 6 Partitioning Help

Good Evening All, I have a question regarding CentOS 6 server partitioning. Now I know there are a lot of different ways to partition the system and different opinions depending on the use of the server. I currently have a quad core intel system running 8GB of RAM with 1 TB hard drive (single). In the past as a FreeBSD user, I have always made a physical volume of the root filesystem (/), SWAP, /tmp, /usr, /var, and /home. In the partitioning manager I would always specify 10GB for root, 2GB or so for SWAP, 20GB var, 50GB usr, 10GB /tmp, and allocate all remaining space to my home directory as my primary data volume (assuming all my applications are installed and ran from my home directories). I was recently told that this is an old style of partitioning and is not used in modern day Linux distributions. So more accurately, here are my questions to the list: 1) What is a good partition map/schema for a server OS where it's primary purpose is for a LAMP server, DNS (bind), and possibly gameservers 2) CentOS docs recommend using 10GB SWAP for 8GB of RAM. 1X the amount of physical memory + 2GB added. (Reference: http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/Installation_Guide-en-US/s1-diskpartition…) I was told this is ridiculous and will severely slow down the system. Is this true? If so, what is a good swap space to use for 8GB of RAM? The university of MIT recommends making MULTIPLE 2GB swap spaces equaling 10GB if this is the case. Please help! 3) Is EXT4 better or worse to use then XFS for what I am planning to use the system for? Thanks in advance for all your help guys Kind Regards, Jonathan Vomacka
