anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. OpenNebula Variant and Cloud SIG proposals

Given that there are at least two other projects keen to make this happen, it would be great if the Cloud SIG could be a single multicloud target. -- Hello, I'm Jaime Melis from the OpenNebula project [1]. We have been involved with CentOS for the past year making a stable Cloud Management Platform [2]. I would like to hereby propose a new CentOS variant, namely the OpenNebula variant. This variant would add three roles to the CentOS installation: * OpenNebula Frontend * OpenNebula Node KVM * OpenNebula Node Xen The work for the Frontend and Node KVM roles has been completed and is ready to be released. The Node Xen role is still in progress although close to being finished. This work should take place under the Cloud SIG umbrella, which right as of now doesn't exist, so I would like to also propose the creation of this group with the aim of making the major cloud platforms work wth Centos. interest in Cloud Instance SIG (from the Synnefo and Ganeti side)

Hello everybody, I'm interested in participating in the Cloud Instance SIG and help provide official CentOS images for the Synnefo open source cloud platform: http://www.synnefo.org which is built on top of Google Ganeti: https://code.google.com/p/ganeti/ Currently, we are providing to our users our 'system' CentOS image which is just a bundle of the official CentOS iso. The image file is just a raw dump of a disk. Synnefo does not require any special software running inside the image (e.g.: cloud-init) to take care of customization. All customization (setting passwords, hostnames, injecting files, SSH keys, resizing, etc) is done by Synnefo itself in an isolated, virtualized environment for maximum security before spawning the actual VM. So, it would be nice to just redirect our users to the CentOS official image for Synnefo and Ganeti :) Hope to take part in this. Thanks, Constantinos

Update on stats of SIG plans

hi, I am sure people are wondering what the state of the SIG's is at this point. And this is a quick recap of stuff from my perspective. We have 8 SIG's that are under active consideration and planning. Every SIG proposal needs to go via the CentOS Board for inclusion and setup. The CentOS Board is starting to get a regular meeting schedule doing, and will meet every Wednesday ( minutes for every meeting will be posted on the website, Jim is working out the mechanics for that ). Starting with the Board meeting of the 5th March, we will consider SIG plans, no more than 2 a meeting, at every other board meeting. These meetings will be held in public, and the SIG's being considered will be notified in advance so they can come and be a part of the conversations ( and any followup can happen immediately after the meeting ). In the coming days, I will be reaching out to the people who nominated themselves to be SIG coordinators, for the SIG's I've offered to help sponsor and start working on the proposals. Hi, I saw the header artwork at seven.centos.org for first time yesterday afternoon (after a long time off-line) and couldn't resist the motivation of imagining a similar artwork for CentOS 7. Then I read "As a community, for the community" article by Karanbir. Then, with that information in mind, walked one mile from work to home thinking on possible design combinations. When I was at home, I washed my face and started to design using Inkscape and Gimp on a CentOS 6 workstation. Storage SIG proposal

Greetings CentOS-devel, We here at Inktank (and the Ceph project) are quite interested in the direction that CentOS is headed and would love to propose a 'Storage SIG' to help ensure that something so fundamental gets the proper attention. There are definitely aspects that will overlap with Core, Cloud, and Virtualization, but we think there are plenty of places where storage should have it's own discourse. We are already building CentOS packages for Ceph and would like to encourage other storage offerings to do the same. We are definitely in alignment with the requirements and want to ensure that: 1) the discourse remains primarily CentOS related, or at least tangentially applicable. 2) there is plenty of feedback and control into, and out of, the core CentOS community. 3) all communications take place in public (either IRC or mailing lists). 4) all code is compatible with a FOSS license (in our case, LGPL v2 w/ fragmented copyright). 5) all documentation is compatible with the CentOS wiki license. 6) the storage SIG would be very mindful of CentOS direction and coordinate effectively. 7) we have the appropriate buy-in from the CentOS devteam. For a (very rough) outline of form and function I was thinking of the following. However, this will obviously grow and mature with feedback. Mission To ensure that CentOS is at the forefront of next generation storage technology and has a wide range of mature options for both traditional and distributed systems. Technical Goals * Assist with packaging and testing of storage technologies for CentOS repositories * Documenting paths to deployment and use for various storage technologies * Hold an open discourse around storage technology as it applies to CentOS * Work closely with providers of storage technology to ensure tight integration with CentOS Community Goals * Provide an easy-to-consume menu of storage and deployment/orchestration options * Act as a resource for those exploring next generation storage technology * Ensure that all storage technology is addressed equally without favoritism * Work with users to publish use cases and real-world examples for review I welcome any and all feedback and look forward to working with the CentOS community. eventfd to select problem between Intel and AMD

Hi I met a strange problem, I wrote a simple program that create some eventfds and add it to select loop, create a thread to write some bytes to a random eventfd, when i run 100 instances on a Intel E5-2650, mpstat shows that we have 95% idle of CPU, but when i run same 100 instances on a AMD Opteron(TM) Processor 6272, mpstat shows 50% on sys, 50% idle. Kernel version is Linux 2.6.32-279.el6. The attachment is the source code of my test program. Can someone give any suggestion?? /opt/rh is a directory and not a symbolic link when installing devtoolset

I just installed devtoolset-1.1-gcc-c++ and devtoolset-1.1-gcc-plugin-devel on a clean install and after doing so /opt/rh was a directory and not a symbolic link to /opt/centos. It was an easy fix, but is there something I can do to help diagnose the cause of the issue so it won't bite other people? Thanks, Dave

CentOS Dojo / Hackathon for Cloud Images

hi, On the 31st Jan, we hosted a CentOS Cloud Instance hackathon at the CentOS Dojo @ IBM Forum, brussels. We had contributions from the redhat openstack team, the cloudstack people, hpcloud, opennebula and the xen crew. Apart from getting the base images done for these, we also had a few docker images built, xen-pv and xen=hvm images for xen4centos and as a final bonus towards the end of the day, I was able to update tooling to build all of the above against the rhel7beta tree ( the actual instance building work was all being done against centos-6/x86_64 only ). All in all, I closed the day with 84 attempts ( of which 57 were successful ). During the hack session, everyone was targetting, as had been planned really - a common cloud-init package. Before I start pushing the content up publicly and upload the images done in the session, it would be good to have the conversation around cloud-init. Are we going to keep consuming it from EPEL ? which is hard and tricky, or are we going to pull it into a centos.org repo ( Extras/ seems like a good target, for base common stuff ). And if we do pull it in, how are we going to keep in sync with EPEL ( and maybe other repos ) so we dont end up ver-rel thrashing at updates time. For the sake of completeness, the AWS images for 6.5 I've pushed yesterday ( Wed 5th ) are as the 6.4 ones ( i.e. no cloud-init ). Finally, to everyone there at the hackathon, I apologise for the rater poor network conditions. Hi all, congratulations on the RedHat/CentOS announcement. Sorry for responding so late on SIGs: I was in China until recently and had no time to follow up. There is definitely interest to continue the Xen (or Xen4CentOS) SIG within CentOS, building on the Xen4CentOS work of last year. I want to get the endorsement of the Xen Project Advisory Board for joining the SIG at next Tuesday's board meeting. This will give an application (if needed) extra weight. I don't expect any issues. The other question I have is whether we do need to re-apply (http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup lists Xen4CentOS as a SIG already) and what the format for an application would be other than posting to this list. Maybe we ought to look at the naming of the SIG and make it more generic to cover for future version changes in Xen as well as targeting CentOS versions beyond CentOS 7 (which ought to be a lot easier than CentOS 6 because we only need Xen and no custom kernel). Also, there would probably be practical issues on list naming, etc. (Xen4CentOS is merged with CentOS-virt from a list perspective). I don't have an issue with the status quo, but it may be cleaner for CentOS in the long run if there was a clear SIG to list mapping. Best Regards Lars

ClearCenter Marketplace for CentOS Variant

ClearCenter and ClearFoundation are interested in starting a CentOS variant called 'ClearCenter Marketplace for CentOS'. This will allow management of various CentOS services, EPEL packages, and third party applications to be easily managed and configured under CentOS. We are also interested in being part of a SIG centered around 'Server Management.' Please let us know the next steps. hi'lo #centOS-devel, we added support to CentOS6.5 for the Tablet-PC "EKOORE Python3v2" it took us some time but we have a fix! one change to the kernel-config and one change to the FDI file, please tell me how to contribute the two changes. greetingz --c11
