hi guys, lots of people on this list are keen on contributing to the CentOS effort - and one place where we could, as a group of people, make a massive difference is being able to deliver a ksplice upgrade model. A couple of people have started in silo's to try and get something together but I feel it might be a good time to try and see if we can do somethng as a group. Do we have people on the list who find the idea of rebootless kernel upgrades interesting ? Is there some desire to try and make that happen within the CentOS Ecosystem ? - KB

anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. I will provide further details on these alterations on the altarch ppc64le wiki page once that gets created. Feedback is most welcome. Request to join the Cloud Instance SIG for Microsoft Azure

Hi All: As requested, I would like to introduce myself as a representative of Microsoft Azure and request membership in the CentOS Cloud Instance SIG. My formal goal in joining this group is of course to bring community-supported and high-quality CentOS images to Microsoft Azure. At Microsoft I drive the technical collaboration with many of the various Linux distributions that exist in the Azure Gallery - which includes numerous efforts around image creation, testing and support of these images on Azure. I hope to do the same with the CentOS community. My group is also responsible for a few other key components that will be important for this effort, such as the device drivers for Hyper-V/Azure (which already ship with the CentOS kernel), the Azure Linux agent and various others. We work closely with the upstream developers to ensure customers have a great experience running CentOS in Hyper-V/Azure virtualized environments. Having official CentOS images I think will allow us to build and continue to improve on those efforts. Looking forward to working with you all. Please let me know if I should provide more details. Vagrant box builds are failing in cbs

Hi, Looks like there is some issue with cbs i.e. image-factory, because all vagrant builds are failing for me. The builds are failing for source files which had built fine previously. For example build [1] is using the same source files (kickstart files etc) as build [2] but it failed where as build [2] has succeeded previously. Hello, I am new with CentOs, and more familiar with small linux kernel Sdk. I would like to ask if it is possible to kernel debug ( and kernel module debug in particular) CentOs kernel module. I've been searching the subject in web, but only found reference to qemo+gdb. I wanted to debug a kernel module in the real hardware environment so I think qemo is not going to help in this case. Does the attached look right? Where should this be posted? Can someone kindly enlighten why CentOS-6.7-i386-LiveCD has been excluded from the checksum provided on https://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS6.7 If you are providing it from all the download sources/mirrors; then please include the checksum in the release page also so that one can verify after downloading. I want to use 6.7 livecd on some old hardware and have no way to make sure the image is safe to use. If possible kindly do consider adding sha256 checksum to the page. atomic-sig: proposing a process for centos atomic four-week release

The four-week release of CentOS Atomic Host is set to consist of CentOS core plus a set newer "atomic" packages[1], built for CentOS in the CBS, with versions tracking what's in Fedora Latest Stable (currently F22, soon to be F23). In the downstream rebuild version of CentOS Atomic Host, these "atomic" packages come from the CentOS Extras repository, built from upstream RHEL AH code. ## Atomic pkgs in the CBS, today and tomorrow There are versions of all/most of the "atomic" pkgs in the CBS (in the atomic7-testing and virt7-common-candidate tags), but which versions, and when they're updated, and where they live, isn't governed by any set process. It may make sense to add a new tag specifically for the 4wk release. ### Here's a rough process proposal: 1. We pay attention to upstream releases of "atomic" packages, and pay attention to the available versions of those packages in Fedora latest testing. If the packages in Fedora latest testing are older than the currently released upstream versions, we ping the Fedora package maintainer about updating to the latest released version. 2. We help move Fedora packages from testing to stable by testing them and giving them karma. 3. We take the stable "atomic" packages from Fedora latest and rebuild them for CentOS 7 in the CBS, using a tag for this purpose. We automate this if, possible. 4. We feed the repo backing this CAH-4wk tag into our 4wk/devel buildscript (see https://github.com/CentOS/sig-atomic-buildscripts/tree/devel) build repo/images, test those images, images/trees that pass tests become our four-week releases, released, presumably, every four weeks or so. Again, automating as many steps as possible. [1] The "atomic" packages are: docker kubernetes etcd flannel cloud-init ostree atomic cockpit Finding the latest stable or testing version of a pkg in Fedora. cbs credentials on ci infra

hi, it would be great to implement jobs in the CI infra that can tag or reject content in cbs tags based on test output. But in order to do this, we need to be able to run a koji client in the same place, and that in turn means koji credentials. since the ci infra is all public and we dont want to publish the creds there, thoughts around how we might be able to do this ? One option might be to host the creds and koji itself on the jenkins-slave nodes, so its not pushed to the ci test infra itself, and use the feedback from the test run to make a decision on the slave. This does ofcourse complicate the jenkins job setup dramatically ( from the existing simple, grab machine, deploy tests, run tests, report success/fail ). hi Karanbir and thanks for your reply. I just subscribed to centos-del (after intermittent longtime lurking) so some introduction may help. I have been experimenting with glusterfs on Fedora and Debian for a good while now and decided it was time to try and roll out a 'prod like' setup. After a fair bit of searching through obsolete webpages and reading through mailing lists I found the centos CBS and koji builds: Whilst I do not _require_ to be running absolute latest build I do need something recent. I was hoping to find relatively recent builds to enable a workflow whereby I produce easily maintainable 3.7+ gluster containers without me having to follow development, apply patches, compile from source etc. ATM I only actually require a build later than 3.7.2 to fix bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1222065 > use the user-facing content published to the buildlogs, thats what it > exists for : http://buildlogs.centos.org/centos/7/storage/ While the old-but-stable 3.6.2 build on buildlogs would be fine for 'prod', I am still at the 'dev' or 'pre-prod' stage and feature development and bugfix is underway in 3.7 series- as you know. I would be very happy to be able to test 'candidate' or 'testing' builds. Initially my testing is in VMs but subsequently I will be testing installing, updating and maintaining (docker) containers. So any suggestions for how I can access Centos builds of Gluster 3.7+ ? Once again, Thanks In Advance. :-)

hi, Quite a few groups in and around the CentOS Project are getting ready to announce code, releases, images etc. so I thought it might be good to get a draft of what a good-announcement looks like, as a template others might ( or might not ) want to follow. bootstrap for CentOS Configuration Management SIG

hi, Julien Pivotto is going to undertake bootstrapping the ConfigManagement SIG, and I've setup a wiki page under the SIG space. We can use this co-ordinate the initial proposal and also as a way to bring together and document scope + deliverables from people who would be interested in joining this effort. config management is a core component of many infra setups around the world these days, and i am sure we have a fair level of interest within the existing SIGs as well as the existing contributor base. So everyone lets get behind Julien and help with this effort. moving to a regular account admin schedule

hi folks, we've now gotten to a point where we regularly have account requests for various CentOS resources, to a point where its harder to track things down constantly. I'd like to move towards a schedule based admin cycle for the following resources: - cbs.centos.org - ci.centos.org - devcloud Ideally, this would run through in a way to have the backlog cleared on every alternate Monday, for the buildsystem meeting every alternate Monday to confirm new-users onboarded and followup with any new-user training we need to run through.
