anaconda dependency calculation?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a tool that calculates all dependencies for a specific package or group of packages for use with CentOS 5 (beta) with the intention of putting together a custom single CD build of CentOS 5. With CentOS 4 i used a python script that used the hdrlist module to find all dependencies which borrowed code from a number of sources. I've looked at yumdownloader and how it checks dependencies (using the --resolve option) but if i pass it the list of packages defined in say the Base and the Core yum groups which generally form an absolute minimal install i end up with about 200 packages. If i do a custom install (using beta 1 disks) and deselect everything i end up with over 300 packages. So i'm guessing anaconda calculates dependencies in a slightly different way, can anyone point me to files/code where i should be looking to find out? Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. I will provide further details on these alterations on the altarch ppc64le wiki page once that gets created. Feedback is most welcome. CentOS 7 liveCD survey

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, While working on the next 7.1511 Live media, I discovered that the size for the actual CentOS 7 LiveCD would be more than 700MB. It's due to some packages being now bigger and bigger, also due to the big Gnome 3.8 -> 3.14 rebase. One obvious package I can remove from the packages manifest (which itself is consuming more and more space) is Firefox. If I remove it from the packages manifest (only for LiveCD, it will obviously stay for the LiveGnome and LiveKDE DVD iso images), it's then back to 650 MB, so that would mean that one would still be able to burn it on a CD. But the real question is then : does that even make sense ? for each release, we're now fighting with disk space constraints, and I'm each time removing packages from that LiveCD image. If we remove Firefox itself, that would mean that such LiveCD would be useful just for people willing to "test" CentOS on their hardware, but that would be a basic Gnome desktop. It builds/runs fine, can be installed too (like before), but I'd like your opinion about this. announcing content from the sign process

hi SIGs are releasing stuff, the Cloud SIG has had a few updates since their initial release, but this content isnt being announced as yet. To work towards this, I am going to plumb in an auto email script that should send out one notice per SIG per day, for days when that SIG has released content. Since the sign, push only runs once a day, it wont be a huge number of emails. As a test bed, I am going to set this up to send these announcements to the CentOS-Devel list ( this list! ), and if everyone feels the format etc is fine, we can then start sending them to the CentOS-Announce list. The RHGS product tracks the upstream Gluster packages pretty close. I do not think there is a need to provide a rebuild of the RHGS packages. What Gluster versions would you like to see in the CentOS Storage SIG?

Hi Gluster users running on CentOS! As you may have heard before, we're planning on providing stable Gluster releases and related packages through the CentOS Storage SIG [0]. We would like to know what version of Gluster and which versions of CentOS are most wanted by our users. The current support for Gluster defines 3 stable releases at the time. This means that 3.7, 3.6 and 3.5 are supported by the Gluster Community. Once 3.8 is released, 3.5 will become unsupported and will not receive any updates anymore. 3.8 is planned to be released early 2016 [1]. We can provide all Gluster packages for CentOS-7 and 6, but CentOS-5 can only get recent versions of the Gluster client. Need a valid SCM for building (non-scratch) Vagrant images in CBS

Hi, I am getting following error while doing a non scratch build [2] for ADB vagrant box. The build command needs a "--ksurl" [1] but it does not accept github as an url. CentOS Atomic Host Updated

Today we're announcing an update to CentOS Atomic Host (version 7.20151118), a lean operating system designed to run Docker containers, built from standard CentOS 7 RPMs, and tracking the component versions included in Red Hat Enterprise Linux Atomic Host. Please note that this release is based on content derived from the upstream 7.1 release. CentOS Atomic Host is available as a VirtualBox or libvirt-formatted Vagrant box, or as an installable ISO, qcow2 or Amazon Machine image. These images are available for download at cloud.centos.org(http://cloud.centos.org/centos/7/atomic/images/). The backing ostree repo is published to mirror.centos.org(http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/atomic/x86_64/repo). Request to join the Cloud Instance SIG for Microsoft Azure

Hi All: As requested, I would like to introduce myself as a representative of Microsoft Azure and request membership in the CentOS Cloud Instance SIG. My formal goal in joining this group is of course to bring community-supported and high-quality CentOS images to Microsoft Azure. At Microsoft I drive the technical collaboration with many of the various Linux distributions that exist in the Azure Gallery - which includes numerous efforts around image creation, testing and support of these images on Azure. I hope to do the same with the CentOS community. My group is also responsible for a few other key components that will be important for this effort, such as the device drivers for Hyper-V/Azure (which already ship with the CentOS kernel), the Azure Linux agent and various others. We work closely with the upstream developers to ensure customers have a great experience running CentOS in Hyper-V/Azure virtualized environments. Having official CentOS images I think will allow us to build and continue to improve on those efforts. Looking forward to working with you all. Please let me know if I should provide more details. Query regarding contributing RPMs to CentOS Repo

Signing and promoting CBS content

Hi, Attached here is a macro level overview on how the sign services is getting setup. I've been working on this recently, and its the process being adopted for SIG's moving to release ( eg. RDO folks rely on this for the openstack release work into the Cloud SIG repos ). Couple of highlights : Each box indicates a physical entity; the Sign Box is a HA pair of 2 nodes, dedicated for this purpose. The main sign service is a dedicated machine hosted near the CBS infra for performance reasons. Read this alongside http://www.karan.org/CBS_ContentPromotion.png which lays out what tag's go where and how this maps to buildlogs and the mirror / CDN side of things. The PreFlight testing and Validation steps only do some basic work at the moment, including validating that rpms are not already signed, they come from and are going into the right path maps ( eg. virt sig content going into the /virt/ subdirs etc ), and the rpm headers are valid. Lots of potential to expand on this steps. I will aim to extract these scripts out and into git.centos.org for more eyes and contribution options. The push to buildlogs runs every 2 hrs at this point, and does not include a sign step. buildlogs content is pushed as is, from the right tags, for projects and SIGs that have opted in ( ideally, everyone should! if you are not doing this already please get in touch ). Content for the sign and push to mirror.centos.org runs a report every 48 hrs, and needs a manual ack. In the coming weeks, we will move to perhaps a 12 hr cycle with better round the clock cover.
