When logging in to work on something this Sunday, I was presented this banner on gitlab.com/CentOS : ``` Your Opensource subscription for CentOS will expire on 2025-10-13. If you do not renew by 2025-10-13, you can't use merge approvals, code quality, or any other paid features. ``` Can any member of the CentOS Board with contact at Gitlab ensure that action is taken immediately and seriously to ensure not blocking any SIG work happening now on Gitlab please ? Testing new CentOS Stream Images

Since CentOS Stream 9, the RHEL and CentOS Stream images have differed a little bit, because they have used different image building systems. RHEL uses Image Builder, while CentOS Stream used ImageFactory. CentOS Stream is finally able to use Image Builder, and we are getting ready to transition to the new images. Before we completely change over, we would like the community to look at the new images, test them, and give us feedback. ksplice and CentOS

hi guys, lots of people on this list are keen on contributing to the CentOS effort - and one place where we could, as a group of people, make a massive difference is being able to deliver a ksplice upgrade model. A couple of people have started in silo's to try and get something together but I feel it might be a good time to try and see if we can do somethng as a group. Do we have people on the list who find the idea of rebootless kernel upgrades interesting ? Is there some desire to try and make that happen within the CentOS Ecosystem ? - KB

Tarballs with all CentOS Stream specs now available

The CentOS Stream team has automated the created of tarballs that have all of the CentOS Stream spec files in them. This is just like the tarballs of Fedora's spec files.[1] There is a separate tarball for each major release. Gitlab CI/CI usage quota for SIGs (please read)

Hi all SIGs! As we all switched (for SIGs) to gitlab.com in the last months (and final archive was done for all /rpms/* and other projects still on pagure/git.centos.org) some SIGs started to explore other gitlab features, like CI/CD. We got this week a warning from Gitlab about our CentOS project almost reaching the allocated quota in our sponsored account there, but it should be reset on monthly basis and it shouldn't be blocking any of your CI/CD pipelines for this week. But we still need to verify about which SIGs are (ab)using the "compute minutes" allocated for our account and find a better/optimized way to let you still use CI/CD features, but maybe by offloading to some dedicated runners we'd spin up in our own infra . I just created yesterday ticket https://gitlab.com/CentOS/infra/tracker/-/issues/1743 to track this (but need some investigation and time which I had not planned to spent on gitlab for now) Actually the top 3 projects/groups under CentOS org on gitlab using computes minutes for August are : - https://gitlab.com/CentOS/automotive/src/automotive-image-builder (~17200 minutes so far) - https://gitlab.com/CentOS/Hyperscale/rpms/systemd (~5400 minutes so far) - https://gitlab.com/CentOS/kmods/rpms/kernel (~1300 minutes so far) We clearly see an exponential growth for compute minutes usage, but we'd also remind each SIG/project hosted there to be "good citizen" and so think that they are quotas in place that would eventually impact other hosted projects. -- Fabian Arrotin The CentOS Project | https://www.centos.org gpg key: 17F3B7A1 | @arrfab[@fosstodon.org]

CentOS Board Welcomes David Duncan

The CentOS Board is made up of 10 members, nominated by the community and appointed by a vote of the board. Thomas Oulevey recently decided to step down. We'd like to thank Thomas for his many years of work on the Board. David Duncan is a prominent and respected member of the CentOS community with a deep background in open source. He has been a valuable contributor to the project for many years, with contributions to the Cloud SIG and Hyperscale SIG, as well as many contributions to Fedora. As a long-time open source contributor and current Principal Architect of Partner Solutions Architecture at AWS, David brings extensive experience in both upstream and downstream Linux ecosystems. David has worked on publishing CentOS and Fedora Cloud Images on AWS Marketplace, managing Fedora Cloud Editions, and implementing strategic services like Red Hat OpenShift on AWS. His experience creating strategic initiatives for Linux distribution partners and managing complex stakeholder relationships will bring great insights to the CentOS Baord of Directores.

git.centos.org to gitlab migration happening on August 25th

As announced recently (see https://lists.centos.org/hyperkitty/list/devel@lists.centos.org/thread/BCWA…) , I'd like to announce that we'll power off git.centos.org next week , on August 25th The way we'll proceed : - ensure all git projects hosted on https://git.centos.org will be mirrored to gitlab (they are but that will be last step) - same for lookaside content actually hosted on https://git.centos.org/sources (and already mirrored to https://src.sigs.centos.org) - all git projects imported to https://gitlab.com/CentOS/archives/git.centos.org will also be marked as "archived" (so read-only) - we'll switch IP and https://src.sigs.centos.org) will start answering also on the git.centos.org dns name (already added in the TLS cert SAN) At this stage all SIGs still relying on pagure (git.centos.org) should have migrated to gitlab.com/CentOS so no impact.
