thunderbird 1.5 srpm for review

centosplus unsupported kernel

Just updated to the new 2.6.9-22.0.2.106.unsupported kernel (don't see an Announce entry yet, but yum sees it) and found an apparently-minor glitch in the gcc version when updating my VMware Workstation kernel module: # vnware-config.pl ... snip ... Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override. Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "3.4.5", while you are trying to use "/usr/bin/gcc" version "3.4.4". This configuration is not recommended and VMware Workstation may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler "/usr/bin/gcc" version "3.4.4" anyway? [no] yes What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/lib/modules/2.6.9-22.0.2.106.unsupported/build/include] ... snip ... Despite the warning, the build finishes and VMware seems to work OK so far. Checked testing repo for a gcc update and didn't see one. Phil

New squid-2.5.STABLE11-3 packages available in Centos-Testing for i386 and x86_64

New squid packages for version 2.5.STABLE11-3 are available in the CentOS-Testing repository for the i386 and x86_64 architectures. This package includes several fixes from upstream for DNS lookups, delay pools, FTP response crashes and several others. Please give it a try and remember to report feedback. Testing yumex - warnings and errors

Tried yumex from testing on a three machines. Installs OK but generates pages of warnings. If you are using the c4-testing repository from http://dev.centos.org/ please consider providing feedback about the rpms you're using either here to the devel list with a quick email, or (my preference, but open for discussion/suggestions) via bugs.centos.org. We need the feedback for packages to be able to move them to centosplus, extras,addons, or where-ever else they're destined to go. CentOS 4 PPC boot iso?

Could someone please point me to same? I've found references to a beta boot.iso, but that seems no longer available, and I've found only empty "isos" directories, e.g.: http://mirror.centos.org/centos-4/4.2/isos/ppc/ I'm not the only one to be looking: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2209 Thanks

CentOS Plus / CentOS Extras Policy

We need to work out format / policy for pkgs built and hosted in the CentOS Extras / CentOS Plus Testing area -> Stable repository. One option is to move pkgs by Time-Default. Under this setup, once announced in the centos-devel list, after 14 days the pkgs are moved into the stable repositories. The time issue is arbitary, I feel 14 days is 'long enough'. If its too long we can shorten it to 7 days ? Would that give enough time to find major issues ? Second option, would be to raise a bugs.centos.org issue for each pkg - and ask for feedback on the issue tracker. Moving the package from Testing to Stable would required a fixed number of positive responders. eg. 5 people need to confirm it works ? Third option would be to leave it upto the packager / builder to decide when its ok to move things over from Testing -> Stable. However, in lots of cases, pkgers are busy. And to be honest, unless the pkger thinks its OK, the pkg would not be in Testing anyway. I prefer if other people were to be involved in the test process as well. Suggestions ?
