CentOS Stream and major releases

I'm pretty sure I understand the workflow, or what will be the workflow, for CentOS Stream and RHEL, but there's one thing I'm curious about that I'd love to have clarified, at least to the extent that it's been planned or thought about so far: Historically, a major release of RHEL has been cut from Fedora and polished up (or chopped down or...) but now that CentOS Stream exists, I can see several paths forward. One possibility I envision is that CStream will progress at about the same pace as RHEL point releases today, which would suggest that when it comes time to branch something for RHEL 9, that might once again be Fedora, with the branch then being a major release of CStream that'll be polished into what will be released as RHEL 9.0. Another possibility is that CStream will move somewhat quicker, with point releases over time covering more ground, somewhat obviating the notion of a major release - but this would conflict with the notion of a stable platform for vendors and partners to use as a long-lived base for their products, so I suspect it's not the answer. A third possibility is that when RHEL 8 slows down [1] and there wouldn't normally be another point release of it, CStream will pick up pace and make bigger changes until it rolls forward to where RHEL 9 will pick up. This is the one I'm hoping for personally, as it would keep CStream as a continuous rolling release, and appropriate for situations where you'd want a rolling release. (There's no official equivalent to Leapp for CentOS, but this would mean that CStream wouldn't need one.) Is the current thinking close to one of these, or are there options I've missed? Hi Everyone, Welcome to week two of the CPE team high level weekly project updates! We hope to also mirror this email update in a blog post sometime in the near future. Firstly, here is a brief overview of the team and our remit. The Community Platform Engineering Team (CPE) is an internal Red Hat team dedicated to the CentOS and Fedora projects where we contribute to the infrastructure, design, implement and maintain services critical to the success of the communities. We are also responsible for building and releasing CentOS and Fedora platform artifacts and deliverables. You will also see us around both communities as contributors :) CentOS: - The team is working with CERN about koji upgrade process for cbs.centos.org - CentOS CI - SSL Authentication issue with Fedora Messaging pluginI now solved. - Shared library being developed - 8.0.1905 docs now published on docs.centos.org. Booting CentOS 8 in a VM - can't find the disk

I'm trying to boot CentOS 8 in a VM using my usual kickstart and virt-install recipes. Git fetch broken since git migration

Hi, The ability to use "git fetch" with the new CentOS git repository has been broken ever since the migration and is impacting multiple users. I filed a bug on this nearly 5 months ago (https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=16067) but there has not been any follow up. Would it be possible to please have this addressed? Thanks very much! Hi! I’d love to download packages from https://koji.mbox.centos.org/pkgs/packages/ <https://koji.mbox.centos.org/pkgs/packages/> Unfortunately this is "forbidden by administrative rules." To get access to the packages would be very helpful especially as several -devel packages are not (yet) available for CentOS8 ;-) It would be great if I somebody can help me :-) -Mark

CentOS QA Team.

Hi, My name is Akim Grudzitsky. I live in Washington, D.C. area. >From the CentOS-announce I've learned that you are looking for people to get involved with the QA process in CentOS. That is exactly what I am interested in. I have about 3 years of experience as Linux Sys Admin (particularly with CentOS 7 and RHEL 7), I am currently studying for the RHCSA exam, and additionally, I possess 8 years of experience in Software Quality Assurance. I thought It would be great to have an opportunity to contribute to the CentOS project by combining my interest in Linux and previous QA experience. Could you please advise what kind of information I should provide to be considered? Also, it would be great to learn more about the CentOS QA process and how I can start? Thank you in advance.
