CentOS 7/8s EOL and public services/application discussion (READ ME)

Hi all, For the first time in CentOS history, we'll have two version going EOL the same year, at just some week intervals, so we should already be prepared about this, and the sooner, the better. Per https://www.centos.org/centos-linux/ and https://www.centos.org/centos-stream/#centos-stream-8 : - June 30th 2024 for CentOS Linux 7 - May 31st 2024 for CentOS Stream 8 At the infra side, there are services that we still need to see working, so we already started to add el9 support to our ansible roles and some services are already (or will be soon) migrated to el9. I intend to send multiple mails in the next hours/days about identified applications for which we're still unsure if we should migrate these , or just let them behind (decommission), so if you see a topic/subject for an application you're interested in, feel free to participate in that specific thread (easier to read/follow than just everything in one email thread). These emails should start with something like "RFC (Request for comments) : future of <app>" Let me just announce here in advance the (public) infra services running on CentOS 7 that will just disappear when CentOS 7 itself will be EOL (and so not receiving any update anymore) : - mirror.centos.org : all Stream 9 (and above) mirror content is now on its own dedicated mirror.stream.centos.org CDN setup, so there is no need to keep an empty mirror.centos.org vhost with no content, as all content will be moved (as usual) to vault.centos.org. So mirror.centos.org A/AAAA records will be removed completely. (or we can just have a simple vhost with a redirect to mirror.stream.centos.org) - mirrorlist.centos.org : from Stream 9 (and above), it's using Fedora infra mirrormanager instance for metalink= instead of mirrorlist= in .repo files. CentOS Stream 8 is transitioning to be ahead of RHEL 8 - Compose push to mirror operations affected

Hi Folks, As many of you know, CentOS Stream 8 is currently produced using an "inside out" workflow, meaning RHEL builds happen first and then are reflected in CentOS Stream afterward. This is not the case with CentOS Stream 9 where builds are performed directly by maintainers at Red Hat from merge requests in gitlab.com. The CentOS Stream team is busy working on a project to migrate CentOS Stream 8 to the gitlab.com/Stream-first workflow. This is an exciting step to reflect CentOS Stream's true purpose in both currently active releases. One effect of this transition, though, is that we need to migrate from the old mbox buildsystem to the new Stream koji ( https://kojihub.stream.centos.org). To do this the team needs to pause regular compose and push-to-mirror jobs to avoid a split-brain situation with 2 separate systems. You may notice a lack of updates to the repos on the mirrors for a few more weeks while this transition is completed. The team's first priority is making sure that Red Hat maintainers take control over the c8s branches in https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms (and builds in koji) and then the team will return to working on regular composes and push-to-mirror operations. EPEL 8 Modules officially retired

EPEL 8 Modules are now officially retired. - The EPEL 8 modules are being archived. - The mirror manager is being pointed to the archive - Tags, targets and configurations are being removed so new builds cannot happen. - The dnf epel-modular.repo will remain, but will still default to disabled - The dnf epel-modular.repo name will change DEPRECATED to RETIRED Some of these steps take longer than others. If you do not see the change right now, know that it is coming. Questions and Answers: Question: Will I still be able to access the modules? Answer: It is not recommended, because the modules will not get any security or bug fixes, but yes. They will be in the Fedora archives, and the mirror managers will point at them.

[infra] : Planned outage : RDU2 network maintenance (please read)

Due to a mandatory network maintenance at the RDU2 (Community Cage) facility/DC, we'll have to power off some CentOS infrastructure components hosted in that DC. Impacted services: - https://cbs.centos.org (impossible to submit any build, nor push to delivery network) - https://bugs.centos.org - ns1.centos.org - https://wiki.centos.org - all centos linux / stream 8 / stream 9 release engineering workflow (stream 9 can be built but not pushed out, while for the rest, all will be down) - https://git.centos.org - CI infra: - while openshift in aws is self-contained, there will be no way to request duffy nodes for tests - tenants still on legacy openshift (hosted in that DC) will see the whole cluster being powered down (because of Persistent Volumes hosted in a NFS server that itself will be unavailable) - various other services Migration is scheduled for """"Tuesday January 31th, 1:00 pm UTC time"""". Getting SIG NFV content built for other architectures

Hi, so we're working on testing some CentOS Stream 9 stuff for OpenShift, and we use openvswitch by default. Today, the repo only seems to build for x86_64. I looked at https://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/NFV but I don't see anything there that gives me links to any *source code* where I could change this. I'd guess there's something like a limited set on the koji tag?

Enable FIDO2 Support in systemd

Hi CentOS team, By the RPM spec files, (https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/systemd/-/blob/c9s/systemd.spe…), FIDO2 support is disabled in systemd. FIDO2 support is very useful for automatic decryption of LUKS partitions with systemd-cryptsetup. This would allow for external security keys (such as a Yubikey) to decrypt drives with no user interaction. Currently, the current systemd configuration supports only TPM and GPG. In older devices that don't support TPM, the only option for no-interaction FDE decryption is to use GPG (which still requires a key access password to be remotely secure). As far as I can tell, there is no barrier to enable FIDO2 support. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Thanks, Ersei
