FOSDEM 2008 Updates

Hi all, FOSDEM Schedule. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I have send in the final schedule to the FOSDEM organisation. The schedule is less tense, mostly because Fedora only has a five talks. This means we have a Lunch break and time to break down the booth and clean the devroom. pre-FOSDEM on Friday. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Now, we proposed to have a pre-FOSDEM on Friday, so we could sit together and discuss some CentOS topics in 'private'. I want to book the Monk for this on friday-noon and friday-afternoon, but nobody has registered their name yet on the wiki. If you plan to be there, please put that in the wiki ! The Beer-event is for the first time in a different venue, with more space and more beer, so we definitely plan to go there this year without disappointements. We still need a good place to have dinner on Friday (proposals are welcome). Promo stuff. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ We still have sufficient flyers from last year and I reordered business cards. If it is still feasible, it would be nice to have stickers and better posters. Lance could have posters printed, but I think the only part missing is the design ! Who can do this ? For stickers I am going to look today to see if I can order something online. Lunch and dinner during FOSDEM. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It would also be nice to have a plan on Saturday evening for dinner (and maybe on Sunday evening for those heading home later) and something to eat during lunch time both days. Maybe we could just buy enough sandwiches and make our own sandwiches for lunch ? Anyone want to organise this ? Since we have the devroom free during lunch on Sunday we could eat together in the devroom. Booth. ^^^^^^ Afaik, we don't have anything to show at the booth. If we could do the same as last year that would be great, but who is bringing a big screen and a computer system ? Is there something we could improve compared to last year wrt. the booth ? Linuxtag 2008, Berlin

Hey, we have official confirmation that we have a booth at the Linuxtag 2008 in Berlin (May 28th - May 31st 2008). So now would be a good time to tell us if you want to go there, also. I'll hack up a wiki page over the next few days (if I find the time), but latest after FOSDEM 2008. Cheers, Ralph

Sorry for the late info, but I still don't know if I can make it to Fosdem this year. I'll try to be there the whole three days, so I'll probably attend the meeting on Friday and am able to help out on Saturday and Sunday. CentOS slogans

Hi all, We have had the discussion before, but I would like to broaden it. For posters, stickers and likely other promotion material we are looking for great slogans or taglines promoting CentOS. I have quickly listed a few (and will ammend it with some more that have been coined during IRC sessions) but I am sure many more and better ones are in your heads, so please knock yourself out by sending some other slogans. Materials for Fosdem

Wrap up from linux.conf.au

On Saturday we hosted a CentOS booth at the linux.conf.au openday http://linux.conf.au/programme/open-day All in all it was a very successful day. I had Rob Shaw along with me to help. We gave away about 120 CentOS 5.1 i386 install DVDs and over 100 CentOS stickers. We ran out of DVDs after about 2 hours but had plenty of stickers left over. All of the people we spoke to were very positive about CentOS, many already use it, others were looking to try it and others were just testing the Linux waters and might give it a try. We had a 40" LCD display so we ended up putting our table against the back wall with the LCD on that. We could then stand in front of the table and engage with the visitors as they walked past. I think this worked much better than most of the other booths where the people sat behind the table and had to wait until a visitor would stop and talk to them. We did not have anything interesting to show on the LCD but even when it was turned off it seemed to draw a crowd. We ended up with the CentOS 5.1 release notes page from the wiki. We also had a notebook for people to play with if they wanted to see what CentOS was like. I have uploaded the artwork that I used to the wiki: - a stamp for the DVDs. This worked a treat - a poster. This looked good but was too small beside the TV - the stickers. These were printed on matte paper and a little bit small, but they were OK. The Gentoo booth beside us had a large (~ 1m x 1m) vinyl gentoo banner which they mail around the world. Perhaps this would be a good model for a CentOS banner. Thanks to everyone who helped with the organising of the open day and lending of equipment for the day. The CentOS introduction will be put on both days, we could also have a CentOS Quiz, a public CentOS meeting (feedback and discussion around topics), an rpmrepo discussion, a CentOS Wii tournament and more... If you have some spare time to fill in the content, add it to the Wiki.
