CentOS Branding & Style Guide

hy there, I hope as on http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Artwork mentioned I'm here at the right place for that. It also fits for the Promo SIG or others Under http://www.braincache.de/centos/CentOS_Styleguide_0.1-draft.pdf can be my first idea of an Styleguide wich could help to give a line of usage to some Grafics & design issues also as for Promo Stuff. I also have made a Banner http://www.braincache.de/centos/banner001.jpg how about other ideas? Comments? What about some slogans? What about "get it ... TODAY!" instead of "try it ... today!"? Wich one sounds better for you? sincerly Henrik P.S.: btw. can anybody give my write access to the Artwork area?! Then I can put in the text and other Logo-Stuff as mentioned in the ToDo list. CentOS 5.2 Promo

Hy all, how about the Promotion of the 5.2 Release? Here are some thoughts (sorry, I did'nt know the timeframe when is "the plan" to get officialy online with that or is it already ... so its for 5.3 ;-) ). several weeks before: * what is new (collect Infos) * make new banner * make new "get CentOS 5.x NOW" Button * prepare pressrelease (if major release) 2 weeks before * make announcement to major PR agencies * look in our own community (e.g. the guys who already use RH 5.x) 1 week before * make announcements to online magazines * send last pressarticles on the way 1-2 days before * set up PlanetCentOS and our own Blogs * post on mailinglist * post on other ezines, etc. So, for 5.2 we need i think ASAP this things The Artwork I can do, but I need some short infos on whats new and if there should be pressreleases or "only" Centos Announcement, PlanetCentOS and mailinglist... regards Henrik

questions for the presskit

hy folks, ok, as seen on previous postings there seems to be the necessity of a presskit. Therefore I have some questions and I hope you ALL can give me some input... That CAN be maybe some links to websites, but also selfmade stuff. When was CentOS found? What was the intention? Does anybody have pictures from events or talks (please send to cent-os(a)gmx.de ... at this time :-) ....?! I know some from Ralph on Linuxtag and other talks :-) Who is in the Core Team? What are 3 major projects CentOS is involved? How many Users have the Community? are their any statistics? How many Downloads or sold CD/DVD Images has CentOS since maybe CentOS 2? What are the plans in the future (besides the Releases...)?! Are their plans in Cooperation with other projects or Business-Cases or so? Questions to all here to answer (for more input for me): - why are you use CentOS? Why not another Linux? - do you use CentOS for Desktop, Server or Enterprise? cheers Henrik

Some thougts about the ToDo List

Hy there, I read over the ToDo List and have some points to mention and hope its ok: The following tasks needs one or more owners: * Create appealing screenshots for the website, articles or events additional: take pictures from events... * Feed information to journalist as an incentive to write a CentOS article That could be very dangerous if it is not planned good enough... * Contact magazines for CentOS related articles or include CentOS media Therefore CentOS should have ready made press kit (could work out something). * Contact publishers (of Fedora/RHEL books) to include CentOS on cover, in print or as media additional: contact Writers and ask to work out the CentOS related parts. * Sell and ship branded goods on the website and at events (stickers, mugs, posters, media) idea: build up a little spreadshirt shop (see http://www.spreadshirt.com/us/US/T-Shirt/Spreadshirt-1342/ ) and look how it goes. Selfmade shops are expensive in costs and time to administer it... * Provide a wiki page that contains paid-for support and services for CentOS Question: Who are the Supporters? How many people are in the Crew? * Create a CentOS Weekly News that summarizes BLOG articles, events, progress, etc... idea: could the blog used to improve the idea? Because of archiving articles and redirect from the Newsletter...?! * Create and maintain pages about how to install CentOS on your laptop additional: Install CentOS under VMWare. Hello, I'm new here, so first I want to introduce me. My name is Henrik Heigl, one of my "Hobbies" is the Public Relations Officer Job at CAcert.org and at this time working on my RHCE ;-) (if you want to know more please ask). So, I saw at http://wiki.centos.org/Events/Presentations that I can do something and have translated at first the presentation into german. Is this a good idea and if so whom I send it? sincerly H.
