Hello List, i just recieved another Mail from FrOSCon: 1. List of Participants / ID-Cards 2. Hotel 3. Dinner 4. Materials 5. Pre-Meeting, anyone? 1. List of Participants /ID-Cards The list has to be finalized until the end of this week. Unless someone is missing (and tells me until tomorrow) I'll order ID-Cards for: - Marcus Moeller - Andreas Rogge As our speakers get ID-Cards without being listed by me I won't order ID-Cards for: - Ralph Angendendt - Dag Wieers If required I can try to fetch the ID-Cards on Friday so we don't have to wait on Saturday. 2. Hotel The Hotel is open 24 hours a day. The fee has to be paid at the hotel (and not at FrOSCon) 3. Dinner FrOSCon asks wether we're thinking about having dinner at the hotel. There's no true reservation and nothing binds us at all. However, the guys at the hotel need a rough number of people for planning :) 4. Materials FrOSCon also asks what materials we'll bring with us, what size they are and how much power they consume. I know the following (from the wiki): Flyers (just on our table) Posters (how many do we want to use?) Stickers (just on our table) Dag's Notebook (approx. 75 Watts) Ralph's Notebook (approx. 75 Watts) Marcus' Workstation + TFT (approx. 150 Watts) Networking Stuff (< 100 Watts) 5. Pre-Meeting I know I already asked, but as I got no real replies I'll just ask again: Do we want to have a pre-meeting? Maybe at the hotel? I know Dag will arrive on Saturday, so he won't join us on Friday. IIRC Marcus lives near the event site and Ralph doesn't yet know when he'll arrive at the hotel. So this is probably mostly a thing for Marcus and me: Do we want to sit at the hotel, talk and maybe have a beer or two? I just noticed that Dag's and Ralph's talks will be both held on Saturday from 16:30 to 17:30. Even though I hope everyone at FrOSCon will attend one of these talks Marcus and me should probably not plan anything during that time. FrOSCon: Information and Request

Hello Everybody, I've got a request and information e-mail from FrOSCon. I also included the German original text (see below). - I need a complete List of everybody from CentOS taking part in FrOSCon. So please tell me: * Your full name * A way for me to contact you * Whether you're already registered as speaker or helper. * If you want to stay at Hotel Regina or my apartment - We need to decide when we so the setup (Friday or Saturday) - We need to decide wheter we want an internal meeting - We need to decide what to announce in CentOS-de. Either a "call for visitors" or a "call for helpers". I guess Ralph is able to decide that, because he is quite active there... Please note: we must not teardown the booth before 18:00 on Sunday All decisions should be done until August 1st, because we have to inform FrOSCon in time. The detailed planning can, of course, be done afterwards. Concerning the internal meeting, I think at least Dag and me agreed that it is not a good idea to do things like that during an event. However, we still can do them in the evening (see http://tinyurl.com/6ej3ea). When we decide to do such a meeting and we know how many people will take part, I'll try to find a place that can fulfill our/my requirements. As we should probably write all this down in the Wiki: Could somebody please give me write-access to /Events/FrOSCon2008? The longer version (please read this if you're willing to take part and can spare the time): 1. Accomodation 2. Catering 3. Exhibitor ID-Cards 4. Setup and Teardown of the Booth 5. Linking to FrOSCon.de and FrOSCon.org 6. Social Event 1. Accomodation It is possible to Stay in Hotel Regina. The rooms can be booked through FrOSCon (just ask me). Rates for bed and breakfast: 30 € per night for your own room 20 € per night for room shared with somebody These prices only apply for Friday and Saturday and have to be payed in cash at FrOSCon. On Friday the hotel offers food from 20:30 till 23:30. If anyone is interested, just tell me. The Debianforum also has a quite cheap camping ground near FrOSCon. If anyone is interested I'll have a look After all, I can offer my apartment for a few people (if there are more than two people, rooms must be shared). This year we even have a shower, a kitchen and free WiFi :) So I can provide food, accomodation and internet access at no cost. 2. Catering For all exhibitors, speakers and helpers there's a buffet on Saturday and Sunday from 09:30 to 17:00 and there's lunch from 11:00 to 13:00 on both days. There are also free drinks. However, as the food they must not be taken out of the catering area. For everyone wanting food and drink at the booth, there is a "bar" where drinks can be purchased. 3. Exhibitor ID-Cards Every Exhibitor needs an ID-Card. For these I need the Full Name and a way to contact you (i.e. mail-address and/or phone number). Last year there were issues with people who were not not on the list (like me). This year everybody not on the list will have to pay the entry fee and will not be able to access the catering-area. The FrOSCon Deadline is August 7th. Please note that people who are already speakers do *not* need these Cards. Also we were told not to order too many cards, because every cards has additional cost attached for FrOSCon (e.g. catering). 4. Setup and Teardown Setup can be done on Friday from 12:00 to 23:00. I guess we'll have to discuss if and when we want to do the setup. Othwise we can do the setup on Saturday morning. Teardown of the booth must not be done before 18:00 on Sunday. FrOSCon sais it was displeasing that so many projects teared down their boothes quite early. So they require us to stay until 18:00 or we won't get a booth next year. 5. Linking to FrOSCon.de and FrOSCon.org We're asked to check the links and texts on http://www.froscon.de/projekte.html (and the english page). We should also try to describe what we're going to do or show at FrOSCon. 6. Social Event Of course there's a social event on Saturday evening. Übernachtungen Wie im letztem Jahr war es uns diesmal wieder möglich das Hotel - Regina zu mieten. Das bedeutet konkret, dass ihr über uns ein Zimmer buchen könnt. Die Zimmer werden wieder von uns subventioniert. Die Preise sind wie folgt und inkl. Frühstück: 30 Euro pro Nacht, wenn ihr ein Einzelzimmer haben möchtet 20 Euro pro Nacht, wenn ihr bereit seid, in einem Doppelzimmer zu übernachten und Euch das Zimmer mit jemandem teilt. Die Preise gelten für Übernachtungen am Freitag und Samstag. Das Geld ist in Bar auf der FrOSCon abzugeben, dort bekommt ihr auch eure Eintrittskarten. Essen und Anreise am Freitag. Das Hotel hat uns angeboten am Freitag Abend von 20:30 bis 23:30 Uhr Abendessen nach Tageskarte anzubieten. Um die Planung zu vereinfachen, wäre es schön, wenn ihr uns kurz eine Rückmeldung gebt, wer das nutzen möchte. Ebenfalls hat das Debianforum einen sehr günstigen Campingplatz in der Nähe der FrOSCon aufgetan. Wem das gefällt, kann hier mal schauen. http://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=100593 2. Verpflegung während der Konferenz Für alle Aussteller, Speaker und Helfer bieten wir in diesem Jahr wieder Verpflegung an. Die Verpflegung sieht wie folgt aus: - Sa. und So. von ca. 09:30 bis 17:00 belegte Brötchen und andere Snacks. - Sa. und So. von ca. 11:00 bis 13:00 Uhr gibt es warmes Essen. Wir werden auch wieder Essen für Vegetarier zur Verfügung stellen. Zusätzlich zum Essen gibt es wieder Getränke (Schorlen, Wasser etc.). Das Essen und auch die Getränke dürfen nur im vorgesehen Raum verzehrt werden. Für die, die am Stand trinken möchten, haben wir wieder unseren Verkaufstand, an dem ihr günstig Getränke erwerben könnt. Um an der Verpflegung teilnehmen zu können, benötigt ihr Ausstellerausweise. Diese bekommt ihr selbstverständlich kostenlos von uns. Details. s.h. Punkt 3 3. Ausstellerausweise Damit wir Ausstellerausweise zur Verfügung stellen können, benötigen wir, bis spätestens zum 07.08., von jedem Aussteller eine vollständige Liste, mit Vor- und Nachname, von jeder Person, die einen Ausstellerausweis haben möchte. Da wir im letzten Jahr einige Problem mit Leuten hatten, die der Meinung waren, sie müssten auf einer Ausstellerliste stehen, bitte ich Euch darauf zu achten, das wir eure E-Mail bestätigen. Am besten bringt auch jeder die E-Mail mit. Wir könnten uns ja auch vertun. Sollte jemand berechtigter Weise nicht auf der Liste stehen, muss er Eintritt bezahlen. Wir verbuchen das dann unter "Spende wegen Verpeilungsfaktor". Da uns ein Ausstellerausweis wegen der Verpflegung viel Geld kostet, bitten wir die Verantwortlichen bewusst mit der Verteilung der Tickets umzugehen. Sollten einzelne bereits Speaker, Medienpartner, Helfer etc. sein, benötigen wir den Namen nicht mehr. 4. Auf- und Abbau Der Aufbau ist Freitags von 12:00 Uhr bis 23:00 Uhr möglich. Bitte teilt uns mit, wenn ihr schon Freitags aufbauen möchtet und wann wir in etwa mit Euch rechnen können. Der Abbau ist am Sonntag erst nach Ende der Konferenz so gegen 18:00 Uhr möglich! Wer vorher abbaut, wird nächstes Jahr nicht mehr als Aussteller genommen. Im letztem Jahr war es sehr unangenehm, dass so viele so früh abgebaut haben. 5. Verlinkung auf FrOSCon.de und FrOSCon.org Bitte überprüft die Verlinkung sowie die Texte auf unserer Homepage: http://www.froscon.de/projekte.html bitte auch auch der englischen Seite! Bitte versucht im dem Text doch unterzubringen, was ihr bei uns machen werdet bzw. spezielles zeigt. 6. Social-Event In diesem Jahr wird es Samstags Abends wieder ein Social Event geben, zu dem ihr selbstverständlich herzlich eingeladen seid. Es währe schön, wenn jedes Projekt nur eine E-Mail an uns schickt, in dieser sollte dann alles gesammelt stehen. Das spart uns Zeit, von der wir nicht genug haben. Bezüglich der Namensliste könnt ihr Euch ruhig bis zum 07.08. zeit lassen. Ihr werdet kurz vorher auch nochmal eine Erinnerungs-E-Mail erhalten. hy there, I hope as on http://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Artwork mentioned I'm here at the right place for that. It also fits for the Promo SIG or others Under http://www.braincache.de/centos/CentOS_Styleguide_0.1-draft.pdf can be my first idea of an Styleguide wich could help to give a line of usage to some Grafics & design issues also as for Promo Stuff. I also have made a Banner http://www.braincache.de/centos/banner001.jpg how about other ideas? Comments? What about some slogans? What about "get it ... TODAY!" instead of "try it ... today!"? Wich one sounds better for you? sincerly Henrik P.S.: btw. can anybody give my write access to the Artwork area?! Then I can put in the text and other Logo-Stuff as mentioned in the ToDo list. CentOS 5.2 Promo

Hy all, how about the Promotion of the 5.2 Release? Here are some thoughts (sorry, I did'nt know the timeframe when is "the plan" to get officialy online with that or is it already ... so its for 5.3 ;-) ). several weeks before: * what is new (collect Infos) * make new banner * make new "get CentOS 5.x NOW" Button * prepare pressrelease (if major release) 2 weeks before * make announcement to major PR agencies * look in our own community (e.g. the guys who already use RH 5.x) 1 week before * make announcements to online magazines * send last pressarticles on the way 1-2 days before * set up PlanetCentOS and our own Blogs * post on mailinglist * post on other ezines, etc. So, for 5.2 we need i think ASAP this things The Artwork I can do, but I need some short infos on whats new and if there should be pressreleases or "only" Centos Announcement, PlanetCentOS and mailinglist... regards Henrik

questions for the presskit

hy folks, ok, as seen on previous postings there seems to be the necessity of a presskit. Therefore I have some questions and I hope you ALL can give me some input... That CAN be maybe some links to websites, but also selfmade stuff. When was CentOS found? What was the intention? Does anybody have pictures from events or talks (please send to cent-os(a)gmx.de ... at this time :-) ....?! I know some from Ralph on Linuxtag and other talks :-) Who is in the Core Team? What are 3 major projects CentOS is involved? How many Users have the Community? are their any statistics? How many Downloads or sold CD/DVD Images has CentOS since maybe CentOS 2? What are the plans in the future (besides the Releases...)?! Are their plans in Cooperation with other projects or Business-Cases or so? Questions to all here to answer (for more input for me): - why are you use CentOS? Why not another Linux? - do you use CentOS for Desktop, Server or Enterprise? cheers Henrik

Some thougts about the ToDo List

Hy there, I read over the ToDo List and have some points to mention and hope its ok: The following tasks needs one or more owners: * Create appealing screenshots for the website, articles or events additional: take pictures from events... * Feed information to journalist as an incentive to write a CentOS article That could be very dangerous if it is not planned good enough... * Contact magazines for CentOS related articles or include CentOS media Therefore CentOS should have ready made press kit (could work out something). * Contact publishers (of Fedora/RHEL books) to include CentOS on cover, in print or as media additional: contact Writers and ask to work out the CentOS related parts. * Sell and ship branded goods on the website and at events (stickers, mugs, posters, media) idea: build up a little spreadshirt shop (see http://www.spreadshirt.com/us/US/T-Shirt/Spreadshirt-1342/ ) and look how it goes. Selfmade shops are expensive in costs and time to administer it... * Provide a wiki page that contains paid-for support and services for CentOS Question: Who are the Supporters? How many people are in the Crew? * Create a CentOS Weekly News that summarizes BLOG articles, events, progress, etc... idea: could the blog used to improve the idea? Because of archiving articles and redirect from the Newsletter...?! * Create and maintain pages about how to install CentOS on your laptop additional: Install CentOS under VMWare. My name is Henrik Heigl, one of my "Hobbies" is the Public Relations Officer Job at CAcert.org and at this time working on my RHCE ;-) (if you want to know more please ask). Linuxtag 2008 - call for meeting

[For the english speaking community: There is an english translation right behind the german gibberish which follows right now] Der Linuxtag 2008 in Berlin naht mit großen Schritten (28. bis 31. Mai 2008) - und wir sind natürlich mit dabei. Ihr könnt natürlich auch dabei sein, entweder als Besucher oder auch bei uns am Stand! Siehe <http://www.linuxtag.org/>. Um das ganze zu koordinieren, findet am Sonntag, dem 4. Mai, um 22:00 Uhr MESZ (20:00 Uhr UTC) ein "Meeting" im IRC-Channel #centos-social im Freenode-Netzwerk statt. <http://freenode.net/using_the_network.shtml> gibt eine kleine Einführung in das Netz. Oder vereinfacht: Mit einem beliebigen IRC-Client den Server irc.freenode.net auswählen und dann mit /join #centos-social den Channel betreten. Wer also irgendwie dabei sein will: Seid am Sonntag da! Oder sagt zumindest per Mail Bescheid. Achtet bitte darauf, dass diese Mail sowohl an centos-de(a)centos.org als auch an centos-promo(a)centos.org geht. Bitte antwortet nur an *beide* Listen, wenn ihr auch auf beiden Listen eingetragen seid. And now for the english people: Linuxtag 2008 in Berlin is coming closer by the minute (May 28th to May 31st 2008) - and we are going to be there. And so can you - either as a visitor or with us at the booth we have there! See <http://www.linuxtag.org/> for more information about the event. To coordinate this event, there is going to be a "Meeting" in the IRC channel #centos-social on the freenode IRC network (<http://freenode.net/using_the_network.shtml> for more information). The meeting will take place on Sunday, March 4th 2008 at 22:00 CEST (that's 20:00 UTC). Just connect to irc.freenode.net with an IRC client and /join #centos-social then. So if you want to be part of Linuxtag 2008: Be there on sunday! Or at least drop us a mail. As this mail goes to centos-de(a)centos.org *and* centos-promo(a)centos.org, please make sure that you only answer to both lists when you are subscribed to both lists.
