FUDCon APAC 2015 - Call for Papers

Hi All, FUDCon - The Fedora Users & Developers Conference is back and this time to be held in Pune – one of the premiere IT & Software hubs of India!. FUDCon is a major free and open source software event held in various regions around the world, with the aim of bringing Fedora community members together to engage in various innovative ideas/activities and showcase the new technologies developed. FUDCon APAC 2015 is organized in association with the Maharastra Institute of Technology College of Engineering (MIT COE) [2], one of the premiere engineering colleges in Pune, at their Campus. Keeping in line with the aim of increasing participation to Fedora and engaging with various OpenSource communities, we hereby invite you to submit proposals of interest for Talks, Workshops and Hackfests. CentOS Dojo Schedule for Brussels 2015

hi folks, I'm almost done with the schedule, this is what the day will end up looking like, most likely : we have 2 rooms, so there is scope to split the room between virt+cloud and sysadmin roles. Room1: - Xen Perf Tuning - Xen & Virtualised Storage Tuning - RDO/OpenStack tutorial - Ceph tutorial and hack - Gluster intro and tutorial Room2: - Some Project stuff ( on CentOS ) - Installing CentOS like a pro - Intro to RPM Packaging - About CentOS buildsystem / services - About SoftwareCollections - Pulp for rpm and other content management - Atomic intro + quickstart session The IBM folks helping setup the venue would like to present a session as well. Does anyone have comments around this before I go push the button and make this live ? Each room has 30 - 40 people capacity. And I believe we will have a high number of power outlets for folks to run their laptops from ( or atleast charge in bursts ). CentOS Dojo at Brussels 2015

hi, We've got venue confirmation for the Dojo in Brussels on the 30th Jan 2015. I'd like to try and change the format of the Dojo's into 2015 to be more around hands on, tutorial like formats and lesser of ( but still have some ) regular talks. For the Dojo @ Brussels, we have 2 rooms and it would make sense to run two independant tracks. Perhaps one around Cloud and the other around traditional onpremise computing. Talk proposal for the next Dojo in Brussels (30th January 2015)

Hi all, I'd be interested in attending the next Dojo in Brussels. I actually wanted to propose a talk for it, titled "Tuning the Xen Hypervisor for Optimal Performance". Something similar to this has been delivered already at previous Dojos, but there is always something new to say about such a topic. :-) Here's a few more info: As we all know, the Xen hypervisor powers some of the largest and most popular public cloud services. Hence, the session could be useful to people wanting to tune and optimise their instances and the workload they're sending to the Cloud. In fact, Xen has several options and different kinds of guests. The talk would describe the various types of guests supported by Xen, give insights about their respective strengths and weaknesses and advise under what circumstances, and with what parameters, one should use each one of them, in order to achieve the best possible performance. Of course, some of what is happening with the CentOS Virt SIG would be mentioned, and I'd be available to try providing insights and answering questions about it, although I'm not directly involved in it. About me, I'm a Citrix employee, paid to work 100% on my time on Xen as an Open Source project. I'm in the same team as Roger, the guy that gave a talk similar to this at previous Dojos. Talk proposal for the 2015.01.30 Dojo in Brussels

Hi All, I would like to propose a talk to the next Dojo following KB's comments for more hands-on/tutorial style presentations. Title: Optimising Xen Deployments for Storage Performance This would include a review of the available storage backends for Xen (e.g. tapdisk, qemu, blkback) and their characteristics when used on different types of storage (e.g. FC/iSCSI/NFS, HDDs, SSDs). I will follow with available tools for monitoring storage performance and diagnosing problems on various deployments. Provided (reasonable) internet access is available, most of the presentation will be hands-on on live systems using cutting edge storage platforms. If not, I will use a laptop to run the tutorial and compare storage types such as a local SSD and an external (slow) USB drive. That can be done in 45 mins. After the talk, I expect the audience to be well-versed in: - Understanding the performance characteristics of various storage workloads - What are the pros and cons of different storage systems - Choosing the appropriate storage backend for a certain workload/platform pair - Monitoring and diagnosing issues related to storage performance in Xen deployments p.s. I still need to get travel approval for Brussels. p.s.2.
