Hi,
starting a new thread for this.
I just talked to the insurance brokers - as long as the money is there before LinuxTag, we have no problem getting an insurance. I'd like to send them the insurance declaration on Monday, because they have to send me an invoice before I can send them money.
What this means: We are/stuff is insured *as soon* as they have the money.
So we need an estimate (better higher than too low) of the stuff we want to insure.
First:
If you are bringing laptops, monitors, computers - tell me what you bring with you and the value of that. Laptops, monitors and beamers fall into the 1.3% category (insurance sum is 1.3% of the value). Computers fall into the .3% category. So if we have laptops, monitors and beamers worth EUR 10,000, we pay EUR 130,- insurance (plus 19% insurance tax).
Problem is: We still have to pay 25% of the damage if one occurs.
Second:
General liability insurance - do we need that or is everyone attending at the booth privately insured for that? If we need that, it's going to be EUR 82,50 (plus 19% insurance tax) for a week - which seems to be the shortest time range for which it is available. Insurance details: EUR 2,500,000.00 for damages against persons and objects, EUR 50,000.00 for financial losses, EUR 1,500,000.00 for "Umweltbasisdeckung" (probably environmental damages).
Accident/casualty insurance has two classes:
I EUR 10,000.00 in case of death, 50,000.00 for invalidity II EUR 15,000.00 in case of death, 75,000.00 for invalidity
This would be either EUR 6,50/person*week (I) or EUR 10,- (II). This insurance is also valid for travelling to/from LinuxTag (if you travel from within Europe).
Third:
Discuss whether we need general liability insurance or/and accident insurance.
I *NEED* the estimated value of stuff you bring by Sunday evening.
Axel: As we are going to insure stuff at the expo - can you ask again for the beamer/pc? And tell us the value of that, so that we can insure it? If you get a no - well, we're overinsured then.
Please respond as soon as possible (everyone of you!) and/or tell people who will attend but are not on the list (Tim and Gideon, I think).
We will also talk about this at the irc meeting on sunday (see my other mail regarding that, I will also send a reminder).
Cheers,
Ralph

OK, here is what I got and am translating from German:
"We can offer a Dell Optiplex 740 or 745 as well as a Benq PB6210 (DLP) with 1024x768. I don't know what their value is. 1000€ for the beamer and 500€ for the PC should suffice."
I *think* the difference between 740/745 is amd vs intel.
I could install a pure CentOS5 onto the system and put it online, if you want to install additional software or any demo bits. But that's off-topic for a thread about insurance. :=)

I forgot to ask: Could we send over a couple of ticket invitations to the staff of the department? I think there are just 4-5 Linux staff members currently there.

That sounds great. Thank you very much!

Well, we have both kinds of music^W^W^W^W^Wsupport both kinds of CPUs :)

Yes. Daniel/Dag - please chime in (somewhere else if possible).

Dag should have some invitations.
Dag: You do, don't you?
Axel: Can you make it to the irc meeting on sunday? I think I said 18:00 UTC, so that would be 20:00 for us germans.
Thank you again,
Ralph

You're welcome. Credits go to Jens Dreger from the FU Berlin.

I know, if there is a freedom of choice which one would you want me to pick up?
