Hi all,
FOSDEM Schedule. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I have send in the final schedule to the FOSDEM organisation. The schedule is less tense, mostly because Fedora only has a five talks. This means we have a Lunch break and time to break down the booth and clean the devroom.
pre-FOSDEM on Friday. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Now, we proposed to have a pre-FOSDEM on Friday, so we could sit together and discuss some CentOS topics in 'private'. I want to book the Monk for this on friday-noon and friday-afternoon, but nobody has registered their name yet on the wiki. If you plan to be there, please put that in the wiki !
The Beer-event is for the first time in a different venue, with more space and more beer, so we definitely plan to go there this year without disappointements. We still need a good place to have dinner on Friday (proposals are welcome).
Promo stuff. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ We still have sufficient flyers from last year and I reordered business cards. If it is still feasible, it would be nice to have stickers and better posters. Lance could have posters printed, but I think the only part missing is the design ! Who can do this ?
For stickers I am going to look today to see if I can order something online.
Lunch and dinner during FOSDEM. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It would also be nice to have a plan on Saturday evening for dinner (and maybe on Sunday evening for those heading home later) and something to eat during lunch time both days. Maybe we could just buy enough sandwiches and make our own sandwiches for lunch ? Anyone want to organise this ?
Since we have the devroom free during lunch on Sunday we could eat together in the devroom.
Booth. ^^^^^^ Afaik, we don't have anything to show at the booth. If we could do the same as last year that would be great, but who is bringing a big screen and a computer system ?
Is there something we could improve compared to last year wrt. the booth ?
Only 2 weeks to go, so we have to hurry !

I still need to take some of that stuff then with met to Germany - so I hope we really do have enough of that :)

Has anyone (except me) looked at the design John put in the Wiki?
http://wiki.centos.org/ArtWork/MarketingMaterial - it looks much better than what we had before.
Cheers,
Ralph

If you mean the new logo and poster from Ioana Dulgheru, I like that new logo ! Comes out much better, I am going to change the design for the business cards based on that. We should probably put those logos on the wiki as well.

Sorry - disagree - to me that poster is a mess.
And it is not the CentOS Logo !!
Please lets keep some corporate identity :)
I believe seanos from irc is already printing that poster :(

Stickers. The PC badges were quite expensive if I remember correctly.

Hmm, last years poster had a another 3D logo which wasn't the 'official' CentOS logo either. If that is not the CentOS logo, do you mean people can use that without approval ? :-)

Ok.

At least that is the CentOS logo in 3d isnt it ??
Anyway - it seems my machine completely misrendered the image and it isnt as bad as I thought it was :)

Not done so yet. I'll hold off till get confirmation of the design then.

HRM!
"Official Confirmers", please step up!
IMNSHO that looks much better than any of the posters we had last year. So I'd say "Yes, print it". Maybe someone else might want to chime in?
Ah yes, I'd need one for the Chemnitzer Linuxtage also (which then could be taken to Linuxtag 2008 in Berlin).
Cheers,
Ralph

Yes, I would say print the one from the wiki instead of the one we used last year.

I am not happy yet with the logo - and have asked Geoff to get pdf's of the posters we used last year so that I can add them to the wiki for comparison.
Also - that poster has zero information on it - is that what you want ??

No, it can certainly be better, and hopefully we can create glossy posters and make them so cool that we can sell them. But with less than 10 days to go I don't think we can be very picky.
In fact, I would prefer 2 kind of posters. One being an attention grabber that is cool and something that people want to have at home. And the other one being an informative poster that is useful so people that walk by get the message without needing to address someone (which sometimes people do not do by themselves).
Both can help people to come and talk to us, but the second poster gives away the message even if they don't.
However, FOSDEM is not the typical tradeshow so I am not that concerned.

OK - I have added them to the wiki - together with artwork in the 'new' poster style using the previous CentOS 3D logo ...

IMHO people wont buy them - but YMMV
If anyone is really good at posters artwork then I am sure we can get them printed - we still have an offer of printing sponsorship , but I dont know what timescales they are working to.
Do you have a cost for bulk printing posters ??

We did have posters at the last linux world expo in London with info on them - shall I find the artwork and upload it to the wiki ??
It would not take that long to finalise artwork if you can agree content - probably something loosely based on the flyer we have would be good ?? :)

Depends on the price and the poster, I am sure.

Once upon a time we discussed this with prices and everything. It must be somewhere in the IRC logs of the meeting.

The problem is to agree both on the content and the artwork in the limited timeframe. (Without being too pessimistic)
So whatever we have is fine by me. But if we have 2 designs of which already 3 persons opted for one design today, I am not sure why we are wasting more time and risking not having anything at all.
That is my biggest concern atm.

I am concerned to maintain the brand identity of the CentOS logo - and the one on the proposed poster seems to be different to me in that it has extra white lines around the arrows, that turn the into boxes rotated by 45 degrees, which dont appear in the original logo at least when printed on a white background.
In my view it is the arrows that are the most important part of the logo and they are detracted from by the white outline.
The 3d logo we have used previously and which is on the poster I uploaded is the CentOS logo unchanged but given depth ,perspective and shading.
Sean: when is your deadline for printing ???

Sean,
thanks again for the posters. They look definitely better than the ones we used last year ... It was also a pleasure to see you .. hope that it was not the last one ;-)
