Hello,
I want to let you know about 2-day CentOS Dojo + OpenNebula Techdays event we are planning to do in Timisoara on September 26/27.
We had a discussion with Karanbir and Jaime Melis from the OpenNebula team and the details are starting to take shape, so i wanted to announce it on the CentOS promo mailing list.
Here are the details:
The first day will be a 4 hour workshop / tutorial held by the OpenNebula core team. In the second day, we will have a full-day CentOS Dojo event with 6 speaker sessions. We might have even more, if there are more people interested in speaking and sharing from their experience in using CentOS. If so, we will split the room at some point to accommodate multiple session at the same time.
Every day will be followed by networking + going out for some beers.
Date: September 26/27 Location: Timisoara, Romania Venue: City Business Centrehttp://www.business-centre.ro/ Event Sponsors: Cloudbase Solutions, Unified Post Speakers: Karanbir Singhhttps://uk.linkedin.com/in/karanbirsingh, Alessandro Pilottihttps://www.linkedin.com/pub/alessandro-pilotti/3/a21/210, Valentin Bud,https://ro.linkedin.com/in/valentinbud Jaime Melishttp://es.linkedin.com/pub/jaime-melis/19/8b1/5
We have another 2 potential speakers who have yet to confirm. In the next period I will focus on working on the session titles and topics. Once we have everything set, i will post it on this thread.
If there are any members of this mailing list who are based in Timisoara or any neighbouring city, and would like to speak during the CentOS Dojo, please get in touch.
I am expecting about 60-80 people from Timisoara and other neighbouring cities to attend this joint event.
@Karanbir, @Jim - If there is anything in terms of details that you need me to clarify please write me.
Any feedback / suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks, Have a nice day!

from what I remember, the expected audience is more developer focused rather than operations focused - is that still the case ? If so, we should plan to cater to that audience.

Can we get everyone to submit their speaker proposals with an abstract on the talk ? the focus needs to be on CentOS and user stories, or technology onramp if possible.

Hi,
Answering Adrian:
@Jaime Melis - Will you be talking on behalf of the OpenNebula team? If
not, could you please let us know who will be talking and also send us your session proposal + a short abstract?
I can confirm someone from the OpenNebula Team will be there at the event. I can not confirm it will be me right now, but it will be someone from the Core team. However, if it's OK with you, simply list me as the speaker, and if need be we can change the speaker (however the talk and the abstract will still be the same).
Title - Abstract: OpenNebula on CentOS - A zero to hero session on running your own cloud on CentOS Linux with OpenNebula, KVM and glusterfs. We will finish off with a conversation around some of the pitfalls of modern day on premise clouds

Hello,
First of all here are the session titles + abstracts for the sessions we have so far for the Timisoara Dojo:
Jaime Melis (speaker might change, session will remain the same): OpenNebula on CentOS - A zero to hero session on running your own cloud on CentOS Linux with OpenNebula, KVM and GlusterFS. We will finish off with a conversation around some of the pitfalls of modern day on premise clouds.
Alessandro Pilotti: Automating OpenStack CI testing on CentOS with Tempest and RDO - A large open source project like OpenStack with almost 1000 active developers contributing code requires strong policies to gate proposed patches. This becomes particularly tricky in a cloud enviroment consisting of several decoupled projects, with a non trivial amount of external components as well. After a solid year of experience running the Nova and Neutron Hyper-V CI, during this session we'll present the tips and tricks that we developed to successfully run a multi-layered cloud whose management layer is based on CentOS and RDO.
Nicolae Critu & Catalin Costea: Platform in a box - Deployment from virtual box to enterprise cloud - Our presentation will be about why and how we deploy our platform to a CentOS VirtualBox VM as well as to AWS or OpenStack + Ceph provider. Why and which AWS services we use. As going to the cloud is turmoil for most IT companies I think sharing our experience is valid learning.
Valentin Bud: OpenNebula in Production - I will talk about the design process for a Cloud in production built with OpenNebula emphasising on the lessons learned from running this Cloud for the past year.
@Karanbir or @Ralph / @Tim - What would be your session proposal?
I'd say the expected audience would be DevOps focused.
The expected costs for the CentOS Dojo + OpenNebula TechDays are: 300 euro - Venue (http://www.business-centre.rohttp://www.business-centre.ro/) 500 euro - Catering (for the 2nd day) + Coffee Breaks (both days)
If we split them among the 2 events, i'd say that about 66% will go towards the Dojo (being a full-day event), and about 34% towards the OpenNebula TechDays (being a 4-hour event, in the first day).
The costs are covered by Cloudbase Solutions and Unified Post equally. Can there be a mention of this on the Dojo wiki?
For the 6th speaker and possible tutorial sessions i will send an update as soon as i get a confirmation.
We can organise something to record the sessions, but if you have professional cameras and it's not a hassle to bring them, please do so.
Karanbir, can you put in place an Eventbrite page for registrations? Even if the event will be free, it makes sense to have a platform to keep track on the people who have registered.
Thanks, Have a nice day! ________________________________________ From: centos-promo-bounces@centos.org [centos-promo-bounces@centos.org] on behalf of Karanbir Singh [mail-lists@karan.org] Sent: Wednesday, August 13, 2014 1:57 PM To: centos-promo@centos.org Subject: Re: [CentOS-promo] CentOS Dojo + OpenNebula

Hello,
Regarding the 10 EURO fee. Who will cover for the costs of the t-shirts? In terms of making sure that those who register also participate at the event + covering for the costs of the t-shirts it is a good idea to have a symbolic fee.
However, it's your call. Either way, i still suggest to have an Eventbrite page in order to see who is attending and have a better idea on the number of people coming, even if it is listed as a free event.
Can you please make the Eventbrite page for both events? It is easier this way.

no, but lets do it today. I am not sure if we ever decided on the cost for entry. Do we still want a 10 EUR cover charge, and cycle that into beer for the evening ?
I saw that the Timisoara2014 Dojo is listed on the CentOS Wiki. Can we also upload the session titles and descriptions we have so far.
I can likely do that as well,

Hello,
First of all here are the session titles + abstracts for the sessions we have so far for the Timisoara Dojo:
*Jaime Melis* (speaker might change, session will remain the same): OpenNebula on CentOS - A zero to hero session on running your own cloud on CentOS Linux with OpenNebula, KVM and GlusterFS. We will finish off with a conversation around some of the pitfalls of modern day on premise clouds.
*Alessandro Pilotti:* Automating OpenStack CI testing on CentOS with Tempest and RDO - A large open source project like OpenStack with almost 1000 active developers contributing code requires strong policies to gate proposed patches.
*Nicolae Critu & Catalin Costea*: Platform in a box - Deployment from virtual box to enterprise cloud
- Our presentation will be about why and how we deploy our platform to a
CentOS VirtualBox VM as well as to AWS or OpenStack + Ceph provider. Why and which AWS services we use. As going to the cloud is turmoil for most IT companies I think sharing our experience is valid learning.
*Valentin Bud*: OpenNebula in Production - I will talk about the design process for a Cloud in production built with OpenNebula emphasising on the lessons learned from running this Cloud for the past year.
*@Karanbir or @Ralph / @Tim* - What would be your session proposal?
I'd say the expected audience would be DevOps focused.
The expected costs for the CentOS Dojo + OpenNebula TechDays are: 300 euro - Venue (http://www.business-centre.ro http://www.business-centre.ro/) 500 euro - Catering (for the 2nd day) + Coffee Breaks (both days)

I want to let you know about 2-day CentOS Dojo + OpenNebula Techdays event we are planning to do in Timisoara on September 26/27.
We had a discussion with Karanbir and Jaime Melis from the OpenNebula team and the details are starting to take shape, so i wanted to announce it on the CentOS promo mailing list.
please keep all conversatoin about the dojo to this list...
If so, we will split the room at some point to accommodate multiple session at the same time.
from what I remember, the expected audience is more developer focused rather than operations focused - is that still the case ? If so, we should plan to cater to that audience.
Every day will be followed by networking + going out for some beers.
*Date*: September 26/27 *Location*: Timisoara, Romania *Venue*: City Business Centre http://www.business-centre.ro/ *Event Sponsors*: Cloudbase Solutions, Unified Post *Speakers*: Karanbir Singh https://uk.linkedin.com/in/karanbirsingh, Alessandro Pilotti https://www.linkedin.com/pub/alessandro-pilotti/3/a21/210, Valentin Bud, https://ro.linkedin.com/in/valentinbud Jaime Melis http://es.linkedin.com/pub/jaime-melis/19/8b1/5
Can we get everyone to submit their speaker proposals with an abstract on the talk ? the focus needs to be on CentOS and user stories, or technology onramp if possible.
We have another 2 potential speakers who have yet to confirm. In the next period I will focus on working on the session titles and topics. Once we have everything set, i will post it on this thread.
If there are any members of this mailing list who are based in Timisoara or any neighbouring city, and would like to speak during the CentOS Dojo, please get in touch.
if we have the time space, it might make sense to get a tutorial session going as well.
I am expecting about 60-80 people from Timisoara and other neighbouring cities to attend this joint event.
@Karanbir, @Jim - If there is anything in terms of details that you need me to clarify please write me.
Can you post the list of who is sponsoring what and what the overall admin requirements are, and who is taking care of those.
Will there be some video kit available locally, or do we need to organise something ?

Also, regarding the Eventbrite page, on the OpenNebula Techdays wiki it says:
"Registrations are running via EventBrite. Registration is free and is shared with the CentOS Dojo on the 27th The number of seats is limited to ensure there is plenty of opportunity for everyone to interact. We encourage everyone to register as early as possible."
@Karanbir, can you please extend the Eventbrite page to cover for both events or @Jaime, can you please make a separate OpenNebula Techdays one and update the wiki?
It creates some confusion in this format.

Hi,
Gmail ignores .s - boraadrian, bora.adrian and bora.adr.ian at gmail all go to the same place.
I tend to use "+event" instead for EventBrite's silly constraint. bora.adrian+dojo at gmail will also go to the same place
Cheers, Dave.

@Karanbir - I did not receive rights to edit the event. Can you please increase the nr. of attendees to 80? We are approaching the limit and I am expecting at least another 30 people that i know of to register for the event soon.
Thanks, Adi.

Thanks for the update on the Eventbrite page.
Regarding the CentOS t-shirts. They have not arrived yet to the address i have sent you.
Can you please give me some details regarding the transportation firm and a tracking number, so i can call them to see where the t-Shirts are?
Regarding the CentOS Wiki - I have send an e-mail with attachments of Nicolae Critu / Catalin Costea’s avatar pictures + the logos of Cloudbase Solutions and Unified Post to be listed as event / venue sponsors. The e-mail was blocked, because it exceeded the maximum 70 Kb size. It is still up for moderator approval. Can you please follow-up on that and add the details to the CentOS Dojo Wiki?
Thanks, Adi.

I havent, will just carry them with me - there was some confusion around shipping and who/how best to get them out.
Hi,
Javier Fontan will be in the event instead of me, that means that both the tutorial and the talk will be done by him.
KB, can you fix that in the speakers page of the Dojo?

Hi KB,
I think it's best to reflect the OpenNebula Techday in the Eventbrite we already have for the event instead of creating a new one.
Can you add something like this to both the Eventbrite page and the CentOS Wiki page?
- http://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/Timisoara2014 - http://centosdojotimisoara2014.eventbrite.co.uk/
The CentOS Dojo is colocated with the OpenNebula TechDay ( http://opennebula.org/community/techdays/techday-timisoara-2014/) that runs on the 28th October from 14:00 to 18:00 in the same venue. The tutorial is aimed at people looking to get started with Cloud on private and public infrastructure. Please remember to let us know in the registration if you are going to be attending the Tutorial as well as the Dojo.

Also - @Karanbir, @Jaime, i will make a separate Eventbrite OpenNebula Techdays event page and promote them separately. We have no time to waste, so this is the fastest way to kickoff the OpenNebula registrations as well.

Typically, I include venue details, travel options and parking options, and any catering / coffee etc that we will have on the day. Its also a good idea to put in the speaker details into the email and if we are likely to need the people to do any prep before they come.
Atleast for my cloud dev session, it would be most productive for people to either have a laptop running centos, or a vm on their laptop running centos.

I want to let you know about 2-day CentOS Dojo + OpenNebula Techdays event we are planning to do in Timisoara on September 26/27.
Can I request you to draft up an email we can send to all the people who have registered ? Ideally, we should send this out 72 hrs before things kick off - so maybe a late Tuesday 23rd target would be good.
Typically, I include venue details, travel options and parking options, and any catering / coffee etc that we will have on the day. Its also a good idea to put in the speaker details into the email and if we are likely to need the people to do any prep before they come.
Atleast for my cloud dev session, it would be most productive for people to either have a laptop running centos, or a vm on their laptop running centos.
thanks
