Hi,
Someone made me aware of the LinuxWorld Expo UK 2008 which apparently is taking place this year (unlike last year). I noticed there was a website that does say that CentOS has a booth and is present, although it is not on the wiki, nor is there any information about it ?
http://www.linuxexpo.org.uk/centos
I assume Lance arranged this, but would it be possible to add it to the list on the wiki in the future so things can be planned and executed like with other events ?
I have added the event now to the wiki, but we need to make sure we have a proper booth. Since it coincides with T-DOSE I will not be able to go to London, and neither will some other people that already have committed for T-DOSE.
So, who from the UK is willing to go to LinuxWorld Expo and can help with the booth ?
We also have to look at how we can have some of the flyers, posters and/or stickers to the UK.

I dont know much about it either, but I am guessing they are reusing earlier info. There is a good chance that I will be around in London those days - if so, can make it there.
I just had a look at the dates for LinuxWorld and T-Dose. LinuxWorld is scheduled on my birthday - obviously that's why it was cancelled last year ;) However, I won't be available this year.
Another problem is T-Dose. It is scheduled for the same weekend as LinuxWorld and I feel we're not (yet) able to handle two events in parallel.

absolutely! Everyone was too drunk to attend an expo :D

If we split into two groups, we should be ok to manage two events ?
I've not been to anything since Fosdem'08 - so where should I look to see whats the 'usual stuff' that CentOS does at these events ?

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. However, for anything that's not FOSDEM we're usually only a few people. You need at least two people to run a booth and while this is probably not an issue for LinuxWorld it might become one for T-Dose.
Maybe we should call for participants right now so we can decide which events are possible.

What we had at FrOSCon was: - a Presentation (Ralph or Dag should have these in different Languages) running at the booth - a Demo-System to try CentOS yourself - DVD on Demand (we had issues burning them) - Stickers as a giveaway
However, I guess as I wasn't attending LinuxTag somebody (Ralph? Dag?) could probably add some more info.
Hi all.
Is there already a Point of Contact: for T-Dose? Dag, I guess you wanted to take part? Maybe we could setup a little wiki page for that.
During that time my wife is in Goch (Germany) and I am going to visit her. If everything goes right, I could take part at the booth, too.
Best Regards Marcus

I will do the T-DOSE. I think the general rule is that someone with the native tongue does the organisation, because I have been bitten before by German mails that apparently were important ;-)
Also, it is useful to have the same people involved with the same conference if possible. So Andreas takes care of FrOSCon, Ralph does LinuxTag, I do T-DOSE/FOSDEM/LinuxWorld NL/LinuxWorld BE.
There are a lot of places we don't do conferences yet in Europe. And a lot more outside of Europe.

That's fine. In itself it is ok if we have a lot of people, but the booth-size often is sized to only a limited number. Too many people at the booth makes the booth more chaotic and doesn't lead to a better service.
So we should make sure that at any time the booth is too crowded (and the booth is not limited to only one person).
Anyway, if I find the time this evening I will make a page about what we expect for a booth and what things we may be able to offer.

This is a question of organization. It depends on the booth size you promoted to the event operators. I thing a single table is good for 2-3 people. For 3-5 people we are in need of a second table (where we could also place a second PC with TFT for presentation of Compiz or something else)

Tough luck asking for this at T-DOSE. It all depends on the conference you are at. I don't think we really need a bigger booth, we just need to manage it better (ie. people that are just sitting there and doing nothing are not at all useful). And I don't think we ever needed 5 people at a booth because of questions.
For a conference like LinuxTag a bigger booth is possible, but for something like T-DOSE I wouldn't dare to ask for a bigger table because the event is of a different magnitude.

I will create a page with the above and some rules for booths later today.
Basicly what Andreas said, except that we also have some posters (printed by various people in various quality) and flyers from FOSDEM 2007. And of course our shirts/names to show we are a team.
The presentation slides that we show at the booth is to make sure people have something to look at without requiring to ask. And maybe it gives food for thought that becomes a question :)
Also it is important to try and address people that stand still in front of the booth. Not everyone dares to ask a question, but if you politely ask them if they know CentOS already you can start to interact. Surprisingly about half of the people that stand still in front of the booth are using it already. So apparently they are there for a chat.
There is not a lot to demonstrate that is unique to CentOS so apart from demonstrating some technology that comes up in a question, the demo system is not really used to show something specific.

As promised, I called Lance in the day today, twice. And got no response, have sent him an SMS to chase. As soon as there is feedback, I will post here to this list with details etc on that event.
In the mean time, I will still count on being there myself. I have half a stack of CentOS flyers and my CentOS shirt :D does anyone have ideas on where one might get stickers / posters printed around here ?

Sorry - I was away from phone yesterday ...
CentOS does have a booth at the expo - I will confirm details as soon as I have them.
Cheers Lance
