Hi, Earlier in the evening today Ralph, Fabian and I had a chat about the present state of the language subsites. This email sort of summarises the main issue ( s/w ). We seem to have run into a slight technical hitch with punbb/fluxbb. They dont support LDAP as a backend. And we had decided a few months back that all new rollouts must have ldap backend so we can rollin CentOS-DS / openldap based backend. So we need to look at alternatives, and since the primary focus of these international sites is going be forums : Here is a shortlist ( if there is anything else that people are aware of, please add to this list ) - phpBB - SMF - Fudforum - phorum - fluxbb Requirements: - Must be able to scale ( couple of hundred thousand msgs ) - Must be able to handle ldap auth ( if it cant, whats involved in writing the ldap-auth portion ) - Must address the specific requirements raised by the present www.centos.org forum users ( Can you please fill this section in ? ) - Must support all languages we need ( pure utf8 support would be good ) - Secure - Skin'able Nice to have: - Capable of running multiple instances from a single deployment - responsive community :D Things we will need to do: - Decide on what s/w to use. - Give the ArtWork people enough time to get the look & feel sorted. - Migrate newbb forums from www.centos.org to $system ( hey, english is a language too :D ). - Migrate fr.centos.org into the final s/w - setup {de/es/ja/it/pt_br}.centos.org Actions: Ralph and Fabian are going to work on setting up a test ldap server, once that is online we will then start by installing into our test-vm-farm the various s/w to eval them. Using mirrorlist in centos-release-* packages

Hi, as mentioned in https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2018-September/016949.html mirrorlist.centos.org has been updated to produce mirror lists for SIG content as well. Some centos-release-* packages have already been modified to use mirrorlist.centos.org instead of mirror.centos.org, but many still point to mirror.centos.org. Most of mirror.centos.org hosts are also used for seeding the 600+ external mirrors we have. By directing some of their download traffic to external mirrors we can offer faster sync speeds for those external mirrors, and for people downloading individual rpms from mirror.centos.org. Second, most of those external mirrors offer faster download speeds to end users than what could be achieved by downloading from mirror.centos.org, so the users will benefit from this change as well. The better geographical coverage does not hurt either. mirror.centos.org nodes are donated servers, and it would be kind to the sponsors to use their bandwidth sparingly. The .repo files should be modified so that the current baseurl line gets commented out and a mirrorlist entry gets added, like this: mirrorlist=http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=$releasever&arch=$basearch… #baseurl=http://mirror.centos.org/$contentdir/$releasever/storage/$basearch/gluster-4.1/ Note that mirrorlist.c.o can automatically choose between main and altarch content based on the arch parameter. The repo names are constructed from the repository path by stripping away the architecture and changing any slashes to dashes: sclo/x86_64/rh -> sclo-rh, sclo/x86_64/sclo -> sclo-sclo, paas/x86_64/openshift-origin311 -> paas-openshift-origin311, storage/x86_64/gluster-5 -> storage-gluster-5 etc. You can use 'curl' to check what mirrorlist outputs for your repository. New repos are added to mirrorlist.centos.org automatically once the repository hits mirror.centos.org. That script is currently run every three hours. I guess it could be run more frequently (it's fairly lightweight), but you should give the external mirrors a few hours to sync before announcing your release anyway. You can either submit an update to your current centos-release-* file now, or wait until you need to create a new centos-release-* package for other reasons such as releasing softwarepackage-(version+1) which uses different paths. My recommendation would be to submit an update to your current centos-release-* package, so that you would not need to worry about this when you eventually need to publish a new one for other reasons. We released an updated centos-release package for CentOS AltArch before 7.6.1810 was released for this exact reason, ie. we didn't need to worry about this change at 7.6.1810 release time. Other people (such as bstinson, arrfab and hughesjr) can probably help with creating and publishing an updated centos-release-* package, but the usual tagging procedure to extras will apply. The SIG Guide https://wiki.centos.org/SIGGuide should have all the needed details for this (if not, complain to bstinson). It is highly recommended to actually test your new centos-release-* package from buildlogs before you ask that package to be signed and pushed to extras. The holiday season is fast approaching so (I) don't expect much activity regarding these changes in the following days. I'm hoping that the SIGs would take a look at this in early 2019, though. Centpkg and the converged git project

Hi Folks, I've done a bit of work on centpkg, now that we have a testbed at git.stg.centos.org. The goal here is to allow centpkg and fedpkg (Fedora's site) to both understand the different formats. The test version of centpkg described below is the first step in that direction. Basically you can try this out by pulling a container image: `podman pull quay.io/bstinsonmhk/centpkg:develop` Why a container image? - The patches to make this happen involve invasive changes to rpkg, that are still in flight (basically, https://pagure.io/rpkg/pull-request/393) - I wanted to bake in the sources and configs to develop this a little faster as we find problems. Storage SIG, where is glusterfs-server?

I've spent hours searching for the glusterfs-server package and everywhere I looked said to use packages from the Storage SIG. After installing each of the centos-release-gluster* packages, I still get "No package glusterfs-server available." So...I checked the documentation on the wiki and it says to start by installing glusterfs-server. Is there a reason that there is no package for the server? Are there plans to create one? (Preferably for 4.0, 4.1 and 5.) May I (or would you) update the wiki to reflect the current status of glusterfs on CentOS? Thank you! c

Building Origin for s390x

I have been building Origin for use on s390x (aka Z Systems aka Mainframe) for a couple of years now. Currently, I have a script that will pull the appropriate release from github and build the various components: origin, registry, web-console, service-broker, and aggregate-logging. There are a handful of mods due to where the resulting images will be pushed and some logging package locations. I would like to replicate the build infrastructure used for the official releases rather than maintain some bash to get things going. I have access to a relatively well resourced Linux on Z virtual machine with external network capability. If this is feasible, I would like to identify what’s required. Neale

CentOS 7.6.1810 UEFI/Shim issue .. feedback wanted !

We got some reports from people unable to reboot their nodes after updating to 7.6.1810, and basically to newer shim (v15). It seems to affect only nodes in UEFI mode, but without SecureBoot. We wrote that in the ReleaseNotes, including a link to the bug report : https://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=15522 We have now a workaround in that bug report, and also a new interim build (not signed by Microsoft yet) but we need feedback , as the only node on which I could test this myself is my old 2008 iMac computer .. :-( Once we'll have enough positive (but also negative) feedback about this new build, we'll be able to send to Microsoft for signing and so consider that bug closed. Worth also noticing that if we can have that ready in the updates, we'll be able to spin a monthly iso that will then work on such uefi nodes too. building nfs-ganesha for ceph

Hi Niels and Kaleb, I'm wondering how we could best build nfs-ganesha's ceph FSALs in CBS. Right now, since we'll likely support multiple versions of nfs-ganesha simultaneously for different versions of Ceph, I'm leaning towards using a custom "dist tag" like thing in the Release field so we don't collide with what Kaleb's doing at http://cbs.centos.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=98 Eventually it would be nice to have a unified nfs-ganesha build shared between Ceph and Gluster. If we built it in storage7-common-candidate, we would have to tag gluster and ceph into that, which sounds kinda messy, because you only get to choose one version of each. It'd be more manageable to have a separate set of tags and targets just for nfs-ganesha versions. Like: storage7-nfs-ganesha-26-el7 storage7-nfs-ganesha-27-el7 ... etc But that still leaves the problem of shipping a nfs-ganesha-gluster sub-package that will not have its runtime deps fulfilled in http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/storage/x86_64/ceph-nautilus/ . Vice versa, we'd have a nfs-ganesha-ceph sub-package that lacks runtime deps in http://mirror.centos.org/centos/7/storage/x86_64/gluster-5/ What do you think? Just have separate nfs-ganesha builds for now? - Ken

building nfs-ganesha against older Ceph versions

Hi Matt, We're discussing building + distributing nfs-ganesha in centos-devel, https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2018-December/017121.html Does it make sense to build nfs-ganesha V2.7 against Luminous's librgw and libcephfs, and then also allow users to install that build along with Nautilus' newer librgw and libcephfs? It sounds like this is what Gluster's doing with their ABI guarantees for libgfapi.so. The idea is that we'd always build against the "oldest supported" version of Ceph, but distribute it so that Luminous and Nautilus users would install the same libfsalrgw.so and libfsalceph.so binaries. - Ken

CentOS 7.6.1810 release available for builds in CBS/Koji

Hi, As announced (https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-announce/2018-December/023082.html) , CentOS 7.6.1810 is now available and realeased for the following arches : x86_64, aarch64, ppc64le, armhfp So that release is now the default one for the CBS/koji build tasks (and all koji regen-repos tasks are currently running) That means that for your next builds, you'll be building against 7.6.1810 (even if technically that was already the case with the 7.5.1804+updates+CR repositories) That should also mean the end of the "freeze" wrt pushing tagged pkgs for release to mirror.centos.org -- Fabian Arrotin The CentOS Project | https://www.centos.org gpg key: 56BEC54E | twitter: @arrfab

[URGENT] qemu-kvm-ev packages for CentOS 7.6

Hi, just got following report and indeed the new qemu-kvm-ev-2.12 is not in CentOS 7.6 repo despite it's tagged for release: http://cbs.centos.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=24629 qemu-kvm-ev needs to be aligned with kernel / libvirt and other deps to properly work so we need the build to be added to the 7.6 repos as soon as possible. Can you please check where it did got stuck and let it in? Volunteer needed: Track chair at FOSDEM Dojo

I have a volunteer to be track chair for half the day at the FOSDEM Dojo, and I'm looking for one or more people to take another half day. A track chair is responsible for: * Speaker intro * Telling the speaker when they have 10, 5, 0 minutes left, and dragging them off stage when they go over * Telling the audience to turn off their beeping devices, and to use the mic when they ask questions * Announcing what's next in the other room, so that people can switch if they desire * Ensuring that people in the room behave in a way that is compatible with our community ethos --Rich -- Rich Bowen - rbowen(a)redhat.com @CentOSProject // @rbowen 859 351 9166

Hi Niels, I'm looking to create a new "centos-release-ceph-nautilus" package, like the "luminous" one we have today at https://github.com/CentOS-Storage-SIG/centos-release-ceph-luminous I'm wondering if it would be easier to keep all of these in a single "centos-release-ceph" repository, with per-release branches. Would you be up for creating a https://github.com/CentOS-Storage-SIG/centos-release-ceph repo? - Ken

CentOS Dojo at ORNL, April 16th 2019

We are pleased to announce that we'll be holding a CentOS Dojo at Oak Ridge National Laboratories, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on April 16th, 2019. ORNL is home to the fastest supercomputer in the world. It's also home to a huge quantity of CentOS, OpenStack, Ceph, Gluster, and many other open source projects that we love.
