Building or maintaining CentOS EUS releases

Hi all, Would it be possible to release CentOS EUS with their respective patches like upstream vendor does?? For example two releases or one release back: 5.4 and 5.3 or 5.4 only. Why? Because for example for important bugs detected on upstream 5.5 version like this: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=583218. This bug doesn't exists under 5.4 release, and IMHO, it is a very important bug (it is marked as urgent on upstream). I think it would be nice to have the possibility to choose between one version and another according to the problems that arise. Many thanks. -- CL Martinez carlopmart {at} gmail {d0t} com

Seemed too long time to contact you here becase of my busy work in Tanzania.I think it will be more helpful for the team to accept me after I gained two years experience of contributing work for other opensource software such as fedora, mybb and simplemahines. PHP, OpenSSL and missing functions?

Hello, new to this list and am not sure if this is the right one to post this question to but here it is... System specifications Linux hostname 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 10 19:09:06 EDT 2010 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux CentOS-5.5 PHP 5.2.13 OpenSSL-0.9.8e According to the manual for PHP a function of PHP with SSL configured is http://php.net/manual/en/function.openssl-get-cipher-methods.php which is returning an error. PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function openssl_get_cipher_methods() According to phpinfo() it is installed and working properly. ... './configure' ... '--with-openssl' ... ... Loaded Modules ... mod_ssl ... ... openssl OpenSSL support enabled OpenSSL Version OpenSSL 0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 01 Jul 2008 Should I report this as a bug? ltsp problem

Dear Sir, I am using CentOS5.5 and in it i am install ltsp-4 (all packages.) After that i configure it with ltspcfg command. whole things are installed successfully. But some clients are showing the error message. PCI cards should be detected automatically. ISA cards cannot be detected. Please sir give the solution, in internet i have not gotten proper solution . Looking for input from EPEL

Please forgive a possible repeat post. I did not see this in the archives so was not sure if it had gotten sent. With the differences between EL-6 architectures we are finding that we need to build things for PPC or i386 that Upstream x86_64 has. Due to people not wanting to have a different RPM spec file from upstream we will end up with an x86_64 package set too.. which as the good old Fat Controller would say "causes confusion and delay". So in order to satisfy various factions we are looking at add a COST to EPEL so that it would be higher than the default 1000 (say 1100). What I would like to know is if this would affect CentOS-6, SciLin-6 or other repos so that we can deal with it now versus later. Loading pre-built for Red Hat kernel modules

Hi Guys, I have a product which requires it's own kernel module. The vendor provides pre-built kernel modules that are compiled against the stock Red Hat kernels but the product does not successfully identify and load these binary modules on my Cent OS machines. I'm in a discussion with the vendor about fixing this so that the product successfully identifies the Red Hat modules as compatible. However we're not sure if these binary modules will indeed be 100% compatible with the corresponding Cent OS kernel for any given version. The concern was that tiny differences between the kernels, say, the name of the build host, could change the address of a data structure in the kernel which the pre-built module attempts to use. Does this sound like a valid concern? Where does the attempt to provide 100% binary compatibility end? The source for these kernel modules is actually available but I am trying to avoid having to build custom modules. Thanks for your help! -ross

EOL plans for C3

hi Guys, CentOS-3 goes EOL in about 3 months. I was thinking we should do a couple of things for this milestone : 1) Setup and run an education campaign to inform users about this. 2) Put together some documents that clearly lay down the options that users have at this point, and going forward ( Migration options, upgrade paths, virtualised containers etc ) 3) Put together some scripts that might help people with various options from point-2. Of-course, doing some of (2) and (3) before (1) would make (1) more effective. So, at this time - is there anyone who wants to step forward to take this task up as co-ordinator and lead ? - KB
