CentOS Beer Event, London 1st June 2012

hi guys, I'm going to try and organise a beer event in London on the 1st June evening at 7pm. Aim being to just have a get together and chat about CentOS, Linux and general open source stuff. FrOSCon 2012 / Fwd: Call for Exhibitors

Hello Everyone, I got a call for exhibitors for FrOSCon 2012[1] today. It takes place on August 25th/26th 2012 at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg in St. Augustin, GERMANY. I'm willing to organize the event like I did in the past years. What I need is at least one committed helper and a rough number of CentOS people that will help out so I can ask for a reasonable amount of tables and chairs. I can also help out with transfer from/to Airport/Train Station. Like in the past years Sarah and me also offer free accommodation (i.e. you can all stay at our place if you want - we've got lots of space). New TShirt run

Hi Guys, I've attached an image with this email that shows the original Classic logo on the right side and an embroidered logo on the left side - the image isn't the clearest in the world, but the embroidered logo in real life does look quite nice and stands out nicely. I noticed the colours were slightly off - the blue almost looks like black and the green needs to be a bit darker : the printers are going to sort that out. We have enough money to get about 150 of these embroidered ones made. So I was thinking we could pick a single shirt colour and have Medium / Large and XL made up like : Medium : 30 Large : 60 XL : 60 The reason I'm looking at this is : cost of getting 5 colours in screen isnt cheap ( and the results are not very nice either ). And to get the vinyl transfer as we have on the last set of Classic T Shirts needs us to order 500+ shirts, which is going to cost a lot more than money in the pot and what I'm able to contribute as a top-up. Linuxtag 2012

Hey guys, we have a booth confirmed at Linuxtag in Berlin (from 23rd of May to 26th of May 2012). Anyone want to join us at the booth? That means free entry to the fair and (probably) free entry to the social event. And Karanbir said you can have a T-Shirt, too. Cheers, Ralph

TShirt funds

hi guys, So were almost cleaned out of TShirts at promo.centos.org - total collection is £2095 at the moment, I've still got just over 50 packages left to send out - but so far, after paying postage and packing costs it looks as if we are going to be left with just over £1200 in funds. [1] This number includes the money that people contributed as donation when checking out their requests. I've also had interest from memset.com to sponsor a TShirt run ( which works out to be just under £1000 for 200 TShirts ). So I'm thinking we could get memset to sponsor the next lot, and use the left over money for setting up other alternative promo avenues. I have a few ideas, but it would be nice to get some more feedback first. Recycling promo funds

hi, so it cost us £1008 ( £840 + vat ) to get the last lot of 200 Tshirts printed; there was no delivery since the guys who did the work turned out to be close enough for me to drive over and collect. We have nearly enough money for another run, should we go ahead and do that with the same designs and colours / sizes ? Robert Pinna has offered to come up with an alternative design as well, so maybe we can wait on that for a bit. Also, it would be nice to get some feedback from the people who got these Tshirts about the quality of fabric etc and what they thought of the over process / result so we can maybe get better. One thing though is that it took a fair bit of time packaging, printing labels and posting the stuff out. Stickers Update

hi guys, Marian at 1H hosting has offered to sponsor some stickers - the first lot came in yesterday ( 400 logo stickers ), and I'm expecting another 1000 'powered by CentOS' and 400 more 'Logo + CentOS' ones by the weekend or early next week. So, whats the best thing that we can do ? One option is making 'packets' of 2 logo stickers, 2 logo + CetOS ones, 10 powered by ones and put those on the promo site against cost of shipping. OR we can just put them up individually ? or a mix ? What would most people prefer to get ? hi Guys, promo store at http://promo.centos.org/ is now online. All the remaining T Shirts from our print run just before Fosdem are now online there. There are a 178 TShirts in all with me; breakdown : + 100 Team CentOS + 100 Linux Ninja - 46 taken to Fosdem 2012 - 4 to CentOS developers, contributors at CentOS Booth + 28 of the Classic Grey CentOS TShirts I had from last year I've just announced the url in the main list, so I suspect it will be a day or so before that stock is all gone! DVD Media / Any needed before 6.3 release?

If I understand it correctly the next Event planned is LinuxTag in Berlin starting May 23rd to 26th, but there's nothing committed yet. Do we have any Events where we are committed that take place before 6.3 will be released? How many disks do you think we will need for that? During FOSDEM we gave away around 140 disks. Would've probably been more, but we *always* ran out of stock (I haven't had any idea how many people wanted DVDs) I haven't had time to do the inventory yet, but I guess it was almost equal share between the x86_64 Live, i386 Install and x86_64 Install. I was surprised how many people actually took the i386 install DVDs. I talked to Karanbir concerning merging multiple Images onto a Double-Layer DVD. From what I heard right now that's not a good idea. Someone doing professional disk duplication told me that they have a significant (i.e. >20%) amount of degraded disks when they produce DL-DVDs. As DL is just a few cents cheaper than producing three single-layer disks it doesn't make sense if burning fails that often. So for now, I don't propose to do a DL DVD anymore. However, I do propose to merge x86_64 and i386 Live DVDs. They will both fit onto a single-layer DVD. That would bring us from 4 different Images down to three. In fact we could try to do what Fedora did. They're able to autodetect 32-bit/64-bit and boot the appropriate Live Image. As that happens inside the bootloader we should be able to reproduce it.
