Gnumeric

Hi, I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I did that, now I still get: dependencies failed: libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds. Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for gnumeric? I have tried Dag, he does not, he has libgda, but that has other requirements... -- Thanks

CentOS4 and older megaraid

Release notes say no support for the RAID card in a box I just picked up...is there no hope for this box running 2.6 kernel? http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release- notes/as-x86/ The kernel shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 includes the new megaraid_mbox driver from LSI Logic, which replaces the megaraid driver. The megaraid_mbox driver has an improved design, is compatible with the 2.6 kernel, and includes support for the latest hardware. However, megaraid_mbox does not support some of the older hardware that was supported by the megaraid driver. Adapters with the following PCI vendor ID and device ID pairs are not supported by the megaraid_mbox driver: vendor, device 0x101E, 0x9010 0x101E, 0x9060 0x8086, 0x1960 <--- my card ---< The lspci -n command can be used to display the IDs for adapters installed in a particular machine. Products with these IDs are known by (but not limited to) the following model names: * Dell PERC (dual-channel fast/wide SCSI) RAID controller * Dell PERC2/SC (single-channel Ultra SCSI) RAID controller * Dell PERC2/DC (dual-channel Ultra SCSI) RAID controller * Dell CERC (four-channel ATA/100) RAID controller * MegaRAID 428 * MegaRAID 466 * MegaRAID Express 500 * HP NetRAID 3Si and 1M Both Dell and LSI Logic have indicated that they no longer support these models in the 2.6 kernel. As a result, these adapters are not supported in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. Craig

Moving the Home dir to new server

I have a new Centos installation that has an empty /home dir and there are no users...just root. I want to move the home directory from another server to the new one. At this time the old /home directory has been tarred with "-prf". That will keep permissions which could be a problem. Is there a simple way to move the /home directory? OK guys and gals ... can we please stop all the fighting? When technical questions are asked, they should be answered. I lot of people on this list have something that a lot of newbies need ... experience. So answering a question with "RTFM" or "JFGI" is not going to impart any of your experience ... which is one of the things they need and want. Also ... if someone attacks you, you should not respond in kind, but should try not to flame or bait people. It take more than one person to get these things going, and just a little restraint on both people's parts could prevent problems. Can everyone who is a member of this list please read this document: http://www.gweep.ca/~edmonds/usenet/ml-etiquette.html Especially the section "I've been insulted! How should I respond?" Please, please, please ... can we be civil and not attack people personally. Install Guide for PostFix (with DoveCot, SquirrelMail, MailScanner, ClamAV) on CentOS-4

Ok, I have been working (for quite a while) on an install guide for PostFix (with DoveCot, SquirrelMail, MailScanner, ClamAV) on CentOS-4. A full install is part 1 (Postfix / Dovecot / Cyrus-Sasl), Part 3 (SquirrelMail) and Part 4 (MailScanner, Spam Assassin, ClamAV). I am still working on Part 2 (Postfix / Cyrus-Imap / Cyrus-Sasl). It will go with Part 3 and Part 4 (same as above) to get a full install that includes Cyrus-Imapd instead of dovecot ... should be done with this one in the next couple days. So to reiterate, Part 1,3,4 is a full postfix/dovecot install ... it is done and ready to go. Parts 2,3,4 is a full postfix/cyrus-imapd install ... this one is not quite done yet. MythTV on Centos 4

I'm starting a project to build a MythTV box for my living room. Anyone else currently working with MythTV on CentOS 4? Here are some of the gotcha's I've worked through so far: - I was originally planning on using KnoppMyth. But their CD appears to be only for i386. Without realizing it, the P4 CPU I picked is one of the newer ones with the x86_64 extensions. It won't boot i386. Thus, my plan B is going with CentOS4 x86_64 and installing from the ATrpms collection. Here's someone who's already doing this: http://umich2.com/archives/category/linux/mythtv/ - I picked up a cheap Radeon 7000 with TV out. Wrong! Various posts seem to say that the TV Out functionality is not supported by the X.org radeon driver. It *does* work with the vesa driver though. I just don't know if video and DVD playback will work with the vesa driver. Does anyone know? - The stock RedHat kernel does *not* have irda support enabled. I downloaded 2.6.13.2, enabled irda, and my motherboard's irda port is found and configured. We'll see if I can get it to work with the IR adapter in the nMediaPC case I bought. Kirk Bocek

Some 3Ware questions

I have not used RAID controller boards to date since I have relied on the built in RAID on the motherboards. Thanks to the informative message Byron, I realize the deficiencies of doing RAID 1 this way, especially now that the builtin is out of date with Kernel used by Centos. I have 4 ATA drives that were configured in two pairs. I assume that I need a 3Wave controller that has 4 ports like the 7506-4LP...correct? HPLIP

First, has anyone successfully installed the HPLIP driver from HP in CentOS4? Second, does that driver really provide the toolbox which includes handy stuff like ink level monitoring? I got the source RPM (hplip-0.9.4-1.1.src.rpm) from an FC4 testing mirror, which rebuilt fine on this machine: . . . + umask 022 + cd /home/rj/rpmbuild/BUILD + cd hplip-0.9.4 + rm -rf /home/rj/rpmbuild/tmp/hplip-0.9.4-buildroot + exit 0 Executing(--clean): /bin/sh -e /home/rj/rpmbuild/tmp/rpm-tmp.54540 + umask 022 + cd /home/rj/rpmbuild/BUILD + rm -rf hplip-0.9.4 + exit 0 [rj@mavis ~]$ su Password: but would not install. [root@mavis rpmbuild]# rpm -ivh ./RPMS/i386/hplip-0.9.4-1.1.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: system-config-printer < 0.6.131.3 conflicts with hplip-0.9.4-1.1.i386 hpijs < 1:0.9.4-1.1 conflicts with hplip-0.9.4-1.1.i386 The conflict with hpijs is a no-brainer -- remove it because hplip is a replacement. But what about system-config-printer? I'm not too keen on dropping back to manually setting up printers. Any advice is welcome.

modem for dial IN

Hi Not entirely centos related but that what the boxes are running so here i go ;) 2 of our centos boxes run nagios for network monitoring and send email and paging alerts and are connected to standard phone lines using modems to send the pages. I'm looking for a way in the event of provider failure to login to these machines and so am looking at the ability to connect to the console over the modem. Any good how-to's on this ? Also interested to know real life seciruty risks etc. Is it possible to limit phone numbers that are abor to connect etc? thanks
