LUKS encypted partition using --key-file can only be decrypted with --key-file

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I created a LUKS encrypted partition via a udev-triggered script on 6.6 using --key-file /tmp/foo. This worked fine, and I can decrypt the LUKS partition via script and manually using --key-file with luksOpen. The odd problem is that I can't decrypt the partition using the prompt. If I manually create a file with the passphrase in it and then point to it with --key-file, it decrypts fine. I used 'cat -A /tmp/foo' to verify that there was no '\n' at the end of the phrase. Is this expected behaviour? That is; If you create an encrypted partition using --key-file, you always decrypt with the same? If so, I can't understand the logic... If not, then I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Hi, all! How to setup own i686 mock for CentOS7? Or, is there any public i686 repo for CentOS7? I found i686 repo available in internal CentOS building environment, from a root.log from a mock build result[1]. whois command in c6

the whois command in c6 references whois.v6nic.net for ip addresses in the 43.0.0.0/8 range (and maybe others). v6nic is no longer a valid whois server, any nets delegated to it should instead be delegated to apnic. i have no upstream connections... this change was made in the generic sources for jwhois some time ago I see this fix was introduced in F20 here, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1121512 -- john r pierce, recycling bits in santa cruz

Mail Merge data to a pdf file by overlaying the data on the image

Everyone, I am looking for a utility that I can use to do a mail merge of data to a pdf image file. The image file does not have any active fields, but will be just an image file. I would like to overlay names addresses etc. We currently do this with a pcl file by just overlaying the data with pcl print positions. However, in order to get the pcl file from an original pdf file we have to use gimp to convert the pdf to pcl file, and we always lose a little resolution. I was wondering if anyone knows of a utility to perform this function without first converting the image to a pcl file. Thanks, -- Greg Ennis

CentOS 5.11 / Firefox 38 -- totally borked...

The subject line is deliberate. It looks like firefox 38 is infliting a rerun of http://marc.info/?l=centos&m=141288474630498&w=2 upon us. Addons are downloaded into /tmp, but never installed. Not even Install addon from file works. Going back to ff31. Grumbling ...

Native ZFS on Linux

I have a question that has been puzzling me for some time ... what is the reason RedHat chose to go with btrfs rather than working with the ZFS-on-Linux folks (now OpenZFS)? Is it a licensing issue, political, etc? Although btrfs is making progress, ZFS is far more mature, has a few more stable features (especially Raid-z3) and has worked flawlessly for me on CentOS-6 and Scientific Linux-6. I used ZFS for a couple of large file servers with no problems. The only annoying part was having to manually install the kernel module each time a kernel update was issued. Because FreeBSD has built-in drivers for LSI cards (I use JBOD mode) and strong ZFS support, I've switched to FreeNAS with it's default native ZFS and driver support for LSI. I would have preferred to stick with CentOS, but FreeNAS just made things easier to manage. It also seems about twice as fast as ZFS on Linux (same hardware), but that may simply be a tuning issue. Is there any chance that a native ZFS (rather than btrfs) will ever emerge in RHEL/CentOS? Just curious, because I'd love to return to CentOS/SL next time I build large file servers. As an aside, I have used only WD Black and WD RedPro drives for RAID, and not had any issues. Green drives are scary :-) Chuck

Project Management Software

I have a need to use a project management software package under Centos 6.6 and have started looking at ProjectLibre which is a Java package. Unfortunately it seems to have shortcomings when it comes to following up projects and my current understanding is that it falls short of Microsoft Project 2010, i.e., a previous version. Does anyone have experience with this type of software and what would you recommend? Thank you in advance.

Using Mariadb databases from old server

I'm running CentOS-7, but I left some MySQL databases on my old CentOS-6.5 partition which I'd like to retrieve. I assume they are contained in the file /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1 ? Could I just copy this file to /var/lib/mysql in CentOS-7?
