Lingering dhclient issue

I recently reconfigured some CentOS 4.3 systems that were using DHCP to use static IP addresses. At the same time, the systems were moved to a new VLAN. Here is the approximate sequence of events that took place: 1. ifdown eth0 2. edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 with static IP address 3. wait for network folks to reconfigure switch 4. ifup eth0 I may have reversed steps 1 and 2 on some of the systems. The problem was that the dhclient process didn't go away, and kept renewing the old lease. Our DHCP server is configured to contact the DNS server and update the entry for each host it serves. So the DNS entries for these systems were pointing to the old address in the old VLAN. The eth0 interface itself just kept the static IP address for which it was configured. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. My question is, what could I have done to avoid this (other than killing the dhclient process)? Is there a better way to reconfigure an interface to use a static address? I am not interested in solutions that involve using a GUI (i.e., only command line solutions). Thanks, Alfred

In CentOS 4.1/2, what package contains this library: libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3? I installed a couple of the compat- packages, but this library is still missing.

Gnumeric

Hi, I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I did that, now I still get: dependencies failed: libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds. Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for gnumeric? I have tried Dag, he does not, he has libgda, but that has other requirements... -- Thanks

HTB - Centos 4.4

Dear Friends, I am using HTB version 0.85 in CENTOS 4.4 and I configurated to limit bandwidth port 80 (hhtp) and 25 (smtp), but HTB don't work. Below , show files. Team CentOS breaks though the 200 ranking barrier.

Congratulations to all the CentOS folding@home team members for breaking through the 200 world ranking barrier. Its taken a bit of time but we've all helped to do it. Our next target is obviously to achieve 150th in the world ranking. But, to help achieve that we're going to need more members and more machines. CentOS4 and older megaraid

Release notes say no support for the RAID card in a box I just picked up...is there no hope for this box running 2.6 kernel? http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release- notes/as-x86/ The kernel shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 includes the new megaraid_mbox driver from LSI Logic, which replaces the megaraid driver. The megaraid_mbox driver has an improved design, is compatible with the 2.6 kernel, and includes support for the latest hardware. However, megaraid_mbox does not support some of the older hardware that was supported by the megaraid driver. Adapters with the following PCI vendor ID and device ID pairs are not supported by the megaraid_mbox driver: vendor, device 0x101E, 0x9010 0x101E, 0x9060 0x8086, 0x1960 <--- my card ---< The lspci -n command can be used to display the IDs for adapters installed in a particular machine. Products with these IDs are known by (but not limited to) the following model names: * Dell PERC (dual-channel fast/wide SCSI) RAID controller * Dell PERC2/SC (single-channel Ultra SCSI) RAID controller * Dell PERC2/DC (dual-channel Ultra SCSI) RAID controller * Dell CERC (four-channel ATA/100) RAID controller * MegaRAID 428 * MegaRAID 466 * MegaRAID Express 500 * HP NetRAID 3Si and 1M Both Dell and LSI Logic have indicated that they no longer support these models in the 2.6 kernel. antivirus sniffer/scanner for networks

Is anyone aware of a package that can detect viri on the network & possibly alert when there are? Here is the scenario: Our network is utilized by guest users all the time, sometimes into the thousands. We see guests from all over with a variety of OSs & hardware, all of which, we have no control or say in that matter. I am looking for something that I can run in promiscuous mode and/or on a span port that will sniff for viri and then alert/log when it sees a virus. We can then track down the culprits' ip/mac and shut off the switch port he/she is connected to and then visit with the guest to help them clean their machine. Given the nature of our network and our guests' needs, an inline solution is not an option. Although, I recall that squid supports WCCP, I'm not sure that it would do what I am requesting. I also looked at snort+libclamav, but the info was inconclusive. We are a CentOs shop and I have a spare dual xeon box that I can use for the task. Thanks, Eric

RHWAS rebuild efforts

There is a new Web Application Stack that I would like to get the RPMS for into CentOS Plus. I am trying to get the upstream provider to the provide these SRPMS to their public FTP server, but so far they are not there: https://www.redhat.com/archives/nahant-list/2006-October/msg00053.html These RPMS would be a major add to CentOSPlus .... as they would provide an enterprise web stack with update support. I am just not sure if or when the source is going to be released. So, that being said, I am looking for a way that the CentOS team can have access to those SRPMS to build this for the CentOS community. The way would be to have someone donate a RHWAS license to the CentOS Project. The CentOS Project does not charge for our product and our only revenue stream is donations. If someone donated a license to the project, we could access the files and build RPMS for all the files that are redistributable. If the SRPMS are later added to the public FTP server, the license would not need to be renewed. If someone is interested in providing this license, I can be contacted off list concerning this matter. Thanks, Johnny Hughes
