Create Virtual Machine via HTTP or FTP

Hi, I'm trying to create a Virtual Machine using Network Install mode (I tried HTTP and FTP). The HTTP/FTP server where the installation files are located is the Host Machine. The URL that I'm using is: http://192.168.1.104/inst and the Automatic detect option detects the OS without problem. When the installation starts I got an error: Unable to retrieve http://192.168.1.104/inst/images/install.img I tried different path but I always get the same error. The host machine is a Centos 6.2 (2.6.32.-220.el6.x86_64) I really appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks in advance,

idea: "hybrid" iso images?

In order to create a bootable CentOS installation USB thumb drive, there are several steps one must follow. The process often involves using a Windows box, which can be kinda annoying. The Linux Mint distro has what they call a "Hybrid" iso image. (see: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/744 ) This image can be written to a thumb drive and used for installation simply by performing: # dd /path/to/image.iso of=/dev/sdb (where /dev/sdb is the thumb drive device). This thumb drive can now be booted and used for installation. The same image.iso file can be written to CD/DVD to create the installation media as well. Is this a complicated ISO build process? I'm frequently installing to systems without CD/DVD drives, so this would come in handy. Thanks! Best configuration for encrypted software RAID 1?

I'm setting up a computer with CentOS 6.4 and a mirrored software RAID. I would like it to be encrypted so I was wondering what the best configuration is. The only info I could find is http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-docs/2008-October/001912.html but it appears to be a bit old and the info on the wiki ( http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/EncryptTmpSwapHome ) doesn't seem to address RAIDs. My main question is will it be better to encrypt the RAID itself or the two partitions used by the RAID? Any other things I should be aware of? Thanks, Dave

Building CentOS 6.2 custom install media

Hi, For the OLPC school server ("XS") we are planning to move from our dated F9 setup to CentOS 6.2. Thanks for all the effort involved in producing this distro. One important part of this project is a 'respin' of the install media - we need to add a handful of packages from external repositories, and maybe run a command late in the install. Are the scripts/configurations used to produce the CentOS official CD/DVDs available? I guess this would be our most reliable/sensible starting point. I am familiar with pungi, kickstart, anaconda, etc, so just a simple git link would be enough to get me started. Thanks, Daniel

Apple movie trailers on Centos6/Firefox

Hi all! Once again, Apple has messed with their trailers/website such that I can no longer play their trailers on Centos 6 (note that it still works fine on my two Fedora machines, F17 and F19, without any special settings. on Centos, I've long ago found that by setting the user agent to certain values I could make it work, but now that no longer helps. when I try to view a trailer all I get is a "download Quicktime" page. When I was running C5, I used mplayer plugin to do the video and it worked fine. after installing C6, I discovered that Totem also worked without the need to mess with mplayer installation. then all of a sudden, a couple weeks ago, it stopped working. at the same time, the choices they offered changed, so now they only offer "automatic", "480p" or "720p". this link is to one I can still play: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/elemental/ and this is a newer one I cannot: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/monstersuniversity/ I am (and have been) using the User Agent Switcher plugin for firefox (for several years) to make this all work, and until recently it has. Missing Chrome Dependency

Hey All, What's with this? google-chrome-stable-28.0.1500.45-205727.i386 requires libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.15) : Success - empty transaction I got a software update notice that offered google-chrome, but when I tried to install the update I got a dependency issue. Help with thread Centos 6.4 won't reboot on install

Newbie here. Need help with a thread that has about 25 posts. No replies in a few days. The thread is in software support for centos 6 and the subject of the thread is Centos 6.4 won't reboot on install. Have had limited success in getting a login screen but once I logout, I can't get back in again. It was mentioned in the thread that the problem is likely in Network Configuration. I have no GUI (gnome) no mouse, no terminal, and keyboard use only with Ctl+Alt+F2. Can login as root but have no luck getting the GUI to appear or to get a user login screen. I didn't keep the email from Ljubomir, so for those of you threading the list on mutt, this will mess up the headers--please accept my apologies. I don't know why I never looked for mtpfs to compile on CentOS--after the link Ljubomir gave, I just downloaded it and compilation was trivial. I think I was always looking for simple-mtpfs, but honestly, I don't remember. Maybe I just never thought of it. At any rate, even with older CentOS libmtp packages, installing mtpfs to /usr/local allows me to mount my S-III. I tried both with and without the udev rules suggested in the link, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. The thing that is essential for me is to run mtp-detect after plugging in the phone. Otherwise, mtpfs will mount the phone, but nothing will show in the directories. If I first run mtp-detect, (though I may have to run it a couple of times before it takes--no apparent link to USB port, and I did make sure phone was unlocked when plugged in) and then mount it with mtpfs, it's fine and works as it does in most other systems. (My way of using is command line, I mount it, usually on /mnt, then with root privilege add or remove files). This was with the phone set to mtp, NOT set to camera. Is there a rpm command to find the package that created a particular user or particular group?

Given a particular user or particular group, is there a rpm command that returns what package created that particular user or particular group? Analogous to `rpm -q --whatprovides /etc/security/limits.conf` returns the package "pam". Is there an rpm command that returns what package generated a particular user? Most of us already know that the httpd package is associated with the user apache. But there are passwd and group entries that i would like to verify and want to know exactly how they got on my system. Further i would like to know which the security implications of adding another group to a user account. Something like the following command: `rpm --query --user apache` would return "httpd" `rpm --query --group pulse-access` might return pulseaudio
