IE 9 not sending digest auth info

I migrated our internal wiki server last week, and some IE users aren't able to authenticate. The service is hosted by Apache using Digest authentication. It migrated from Apache 2.2.9 (Debian 5) to Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS 6). The internal hostname for the wiki server is a DNS CNAME that was repointed from one host to another during the cutover. In a normal session, 1. Client sends GET 2. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 3. Client sends GET with Authorization header 4. Server sends 200 with Authentication-Info header and page content When using IE 9 (and possibly 8, I'm still trying to track that down), 1. Client sends GET 2. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 3. Client resends GET (*without* Authorization header) 4. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 5. Etc. IE seems to be ignoring 401 and/or the WWW-Authenticate headers. Using Chrome on Windows works fine; the issues are specific to IE. Any ideas? iso size?

I've been being told, over and over, by K3B, Brasero, and Isomaster, on two machines, with three different downloads of 6.0, that the file is too large for the medium. Nautilus and the browser that die each download all say it's 4.4 GB; I've tried with two +R and an RW DVD, all of which are labelled 4.7 GB Two of the files are 32-bit, and one is 64 What is going wrong?? -- Beartooth Staffwright, Not Quite Clueless Power User I have precious (very precious!) little idea where up is.

CentOS4 desktop has stopped recognizing removable media - haldaemon problem?

USB sticks and cameras used to pop right up on my desktop. Now they don't. I've checked the Gnome "Drives and Media Preferences" and nothing has changed -- I have "Mount removable media when inserted" etc. (Tried toggling it off and back on, no effect.) I've logged out and back in, even rebooted. /var/log/messages shows the devices are being recognized by udev: Jun 27 19:53:37 torch kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sde at scsi11, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 Jun 27 19:53:37 torch scsi.agent[13576]: disk at /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.1/usb1/1-5/1-5:1.0/host11/target11:0:0/11:0:0:0 Jun 27 19:53:37 torch udevd[1347]: udev done! Rebasing to 699 I restarted hald (service haldaemon restart) and it picked up one of the two devices I'd plugged in, but not the other.

Centos 5.7--desktop icons are now a blank sheet of paper with the .desktop filename and they don't work

Just rebooted my box (switched keyboards, and since it's a PS/2 keyboard, it needs to be done at poweroff) and when it came back up, (almost) all the desktop icons I've created (as distinct from the ones that came with the system) now don't display correctly. Instead of the graphic assigned to each, it's just a picture of a blank sheet of paper with the corner folded over, and the icon text is the name of the .desktop file that defines the particular item. worse, when I click one, they don't work... I get a popup window containing this text (when attempting to fire up a local rebuild of Audacity, or the appropriate name when attempting to use one of the other ones): The filename "Audacity (local build).desktop" indicates that this file is of type "desktop document". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "desktop configuration file". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system. Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "desktop configuration file", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file. CentOS 5.7 gives me a blank screen after bootup

Hi all, I have an odd problem, for which I couldn't find any suggestions on google. A CentOS 5.7x64 gives me a blank screen on bootup, both to the 17" LCD monitor connected to the VGA port, and to the KVMOVIP device built-into the server, I can see the GRUB boot loader, and everything booting up, upto the point where it says "Waiting for driver initialization.", then it goes blank - both on the LCD and the KVM. Does anyone know how to fix this? It does the same whether I boot into the CentOS, or XEN kernel, or in single user mode. Monitoring services

What's available to remotely monitor services? What I'd like is something that can run scripts for each service to connect to a port and verify that it's up, and then send me an SMS message (phone text) to let me know which, if any, are down. Also, does a script exist that checks all the services listed by chkconfig and reports those that should be up but are down?

There's an article on slashdot about the Duqu team wiping all their intermediary c&c servers on 20 Oct. Interestingly, the report says that they were all (?) not only linux, but CentOS. There's a suggestion of a zero-day exploit in openssh-4.3, but both the original article, and Kaspersky labs (who have a *very* interesting post of the story) consider that highly unlikely, and the evidence points to brute-force attacks against the root password. Then they update openssh and openssh-server. And then, at some point, they apparently take an ubuntu/debian openssh 5.9p1 (then p2) source package, and install *that* My manager suggest updating openssh to block other attackers (who actually might screw their attack). It still seems odd to me to yum update, then build the software from source. External HDD query

Greetings, I have a USB external 2TB HDD with one NTFS partition which is to be used for backup up from about 5-8 workstations (all Win*) all are shut down when the office is closed I am playing around with Amanda server on Centos 5.7. (It is over 3 years since I last implemented Amanda for about 50 workstations mostly Fedora and couple of XP boxes -- it sang and danced quite nicely.) Now the issue I have is: 1. I want the External HDD to appear at another mountpoint than the /media/<HDDLabel> persistantly on the centos box.. 2. How do I ensure that amanda starts and completes its backup say between 0800hrs and 1900hrs. (/ducks -- I _know_ it is amanda related, I am crosing my fingers here) 3. Is Amanda really a good choice or an overkill in this scenario, given that this is a small s/w development shop where linux expertise is *not* available? 4. Is there an alternate simpler automatic network backup? (Bacula too seems overkill) 5. Amanda is in its 3.x avatar ("The most recent stable release is version 3.3.0"). Whereas Centos 5.x yum install yeilded (I dont know from where) amanda-server-2.5.0p2-8.el5 which -- as is usually expected -- a bit dated 6. The Windows client is 3.1.3. Will the ancient server and shining new client play nicely? 7. Is there a howto using rsync/rdiff given that Windows Scheduler is not exactly like our trusty, mature cron. The centos wiki on this matter is, well, a tad old. Surely the Centos server, which I introduced, in this shop is going to stay and will not go away. Of course RDIFF and other things are valid provided I have another Centos box. Any answers appreciated. TIA -- Regards, Rajagopal

CentOS5 w winbind samba integrated w Win2k8 AD

Is anyone out there using CentOS5 integrated correctly with a Windows 2008 domain so that active directory authentication can be used for samba shares? I have tried the newer RPM's from SERNET up to 3.5 and 3.6 without any luck. The usual behavior is wbinfo returns the active directory users and groups but 'getent passwd' only returns local users. I also tried compiling samba from source but could never get winbind to properly connect. I have tried this with Ubunutu and CentOS6 and both of those "just worked". So if this is working for anyone with CentOS5 would you be willing to share your samba version, samba conf and pam setup? I've put a lot of time into it and also worked with the samba mailing lists without any success. Thanks
