Create Virtual Machine via HTTP or FTP

Hi, I'm trying to create a Virtual Machine using Network Install mode (I tried HTTP and FTP). The HTTP/FTP server where the installation files are located is the Host Machine. The URL that I'm using is: http://192.168.1.104/inst and the Automatic detect option detects the OS without problem. When the installation starts I got an error: Unable to retrieve http://192.168.1.104/inst/images/install.img I tried different path but I always get the same error. The host machine is a Centos 6.2 (2.6.32.-220.el6.x86_64) I really appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks in advance,

Building CentOS 6.2 custom install media

Hi, For the OLPC school server ("XS") we are planning to move from our dated F9 setup to CentOS 6.2. Thanks for all the effort involved in producing this distro. One important part of this project is a 'respin' of the install media - we need to add a handful of packages from external repositories, and maybe run a command late in the install. Are the scripts/configurations used to produce the CentOS official CD/DVDs available? I guess this would be our most reliable/sensible starting point. I am familiar with pungi, kickstart, anaconda, etc, so just a simple git link would be enough to get me started. Thanks, Daniel

Virtual Machine Manager error

Building Dovecot CentOS 5 RPMs with custom LDAP packages

Hi, We are (still) mainly using CentOS 5 (5.8 x86_64). As CentOS / EL 5 standard OpenLDAP packages are rather old (2.3.x), we've been using LTB OpenLDAP packages ( http://ltb-project.org/wiki/download#openldap), which get installed in non-standard file system locations. I am not much experienced in building RPMs and preparing spec files. We are currently using dovecot RPM packages from the atrpms repo (http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/dovecot/). I would like to re-build Dovecot packages based on the LTB OpenLDAP RPM packages (OpenLDAP v2.4.x), esp. because I see that ATRPMs Dovecot RPM packages are built using OpenLDAP v2.3 devel code (i.e. standard CentOS OpenLDAP devel packages). In http://dl.atrpms.net/all/dovecot.spec I see: ------------------------------------------------ BuildRequires: openldap-devel, cyrus-sasl-devel ... Obsoletes: %{name}-pgsql < %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, %{name}-mysql < %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, %{name}-sqlite < %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, %{name}-ldap < %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, $ Conflicts: %{name}-pgsql > %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, %{name}-mysql > %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, %{name}-sqlite > %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, %{name}-ldap > %{epoch}:%{version}-%{release}, $ ------------------------------------------------ So, I guess I can/should change the former line to: BuildRequires: openldap-ltb-debuginfo, cyrus-sasl-devel Note: The final Dovecot RPM and the associated executables (included therein) do not need any LDAP dynamic library in order to run with LDAP support; i.e. after building, the produced package does not require any ldap package on the system. Question 1: What other changes/additions should we make in the spec file in order to specify that we will be using (if needed) LDAP libraries from: /usr/local/openldap/lib64 and include files from: /usr/local/openldap/include (rather than from /usr/lib64 and /usr/include, respectively, which are the standard file paths used in native openldap-devel RPM)? Question 2: How the Obsoletes and Conflicts lines should be changed? Any other associated info would be appreciated. Thanks, Nick

IE 9 not sending digest auth info

I migrated our internal wiki server last week, and some IE users aren't able to authenticate. The service is hosted by Apache using Digest authentication. It migrated from Apache 2.2.9 (Debian 5) to Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS 6). The internal hostname for the wiki server is a DNS CNAME that was repointed from one host to another during the cutover. In a normal session, 1. Client sends GET 2. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 3. Client sends GET with Authorization header 4. Server sends 200 with Authentication-Info header and page content When using IE 9 (and possibly 8, I'm still trying to track that down), 1. Client sends GET 2. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 3. Client resends GET (*without* Authorization header) 4. Server sends 401 with WWW-Authenticate header 5. Etc. IE seems to be ignoring 401 and/or the WWW-Authenticate headers. Using Chrome on Windows works fine; the issues are specific to IE. Any ideas? 3TB usb drive won't mount

Hi list! I have a 3TB usb drive with an NTFS filesystem on it, that I can't mount.: [bent@bnlaptop ~]$ sudo /sbin/mount.ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt Failed to read vcn 0xf28: Input/output error Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. On a Win7 machine there are no problems and chkdsk can't find anything wrong with the filesystem. I can mount 1TB drives using ntfs-3g without problems, so the driver doesn't seem to be the issue. I've tried both CentOS6.2 and Fedora16 with the same result. XEN or KVM - performance/stability/security?

Hi all. I am currently building a small test cloud based on Eucalyptus 2.0.3 and CentOS 5.8 x64. I have a choice which hypervisor to use: KVM or XEN. KVM is the default in CentOS 6 but I have read also many good things (for example PV guest machines, isolation between Dom0 and DomU) about XEN. Key factors from my opint of view are: - stability (which one runs more smoothly on CentOS?) - performance (XEN PV/HVM(with or without pv drivers) vs KVM HVM(with or without pv drivers)) - security Could you share your experience in these areas? A desktop Centos remix

Hello Centos users! I'm doing a Centos 6 desktop oriented remix called Stella. This has been brewing since the summer and it's starting to get ready. :-) I've backported a lot of packages from Fedora and Rpmfusion and I bundle several other repos, too, resulting in a big range of software available, including but not limited to: LibreOffice, VLC, MPlayer, Shutter, Arista, Java, Flash, GParted, extra wifi drivers etc. You can read (just slightly) more about it here: http://li.nux.ro/stella. OT: Rewrite part of a message with rsyslog

Hi all, Sorry for the off-topic, but I have not found how to do this. I have installed a centos6 server to act as a syslog receiver. I need to rewrite all messages that comes from one server. For example a part of the message is: "27April2012 10:33:44 172.1.2.2 data >". Sometimes between 27April2012 and 10:33:44 comes with one white space, sometimes with two, etc. I need to normalize this log to use only one white space between all fileds until ">" character. Somebody knows how can I do this??
